GTA IV car physics > GTA V car physics.

Doubly so for MP.

I thought the driving in IV was fine when I was playing it, but after going back to try and get some achievements on it after playing V for several weeks/months, its like trying to plait sand with your face.

Much prefer the physics in V.

Feel your pain OP. None of the games are perfect but IMO 4 got a bit closer to the sweetspot driving wise. This crash is a perfect graphic definition of what´s wrong with the decissions made in GTA5:

GTA5 driving is like one of these situations where you make a slight mistake (GTA4 driving wasn´t perfect), and to fix it you do a correction too strong in the opposite direction. And before you realize, you end up drifting into the barriers the other way.

And in the other corner...the 'wtf my car exploded I was only trying to drive down a mountain' crowd.

Fail_At_GTA

Don't forget, its the casuals who ruined GTA driving. It was perfect in GTA 4 but all the casual kids were upset that they crashed when taking corners at the cars top speed to Rockstar dumbed down the driving physics to suit such people but ruin it for others.

For the most part, I like IV's handling, except that you couldn't do a PIT Maneuver on other players. It's actually possible to PIT another player on V.

It's really not that bad, handling was pretty bad in IV from what I remember, they all turned like boats unless you used the handbrake, especially when driving at speed. The only handling I miss from IV was the way the Super GT handled, it was perfect.

I hate driving in Single Player though, it's pretty much an instant death if you crash at speed or try doing a jump. So glad that was removed from Online.

Sadly he´s not. Cars don´t go full power through 90º corners doing 120km/h. Supercars bottom down a lot on bumps. Motorbikes are not faster than supercars around circuits. If you brake and turn hard at same time car won´t turn. Sport cars can´t climb mountains better than SUVs. Long etc.

Once you´re aware of the ABC of car dynamics, you appreciate a lof of things about 4.

They both suck. It's just a matter of which one you feel sucks less, and for that, V is my choice.

They turned driving into easy mode because everyone cried about the driving in GTA IV.

i thought the gta 4 driving physics was easier?

It´s not that "they suck", racing crews wouldn´t exist otherwise, and no one would race. It´s that they make a lot of compromises and sacrifice a lot of things for the sake of playability for lots of people.

I´ve raced dedicated racing games less sophistcated in some aspects. If you scratch under the surface you see the physic engine is pretty good, all it takes is to turn on the rain and pick a class like muscle and you start seeing a lot of things that make sense even in GTA5, which is the least favourite of the two for me.

GTA never has realistic driving. Until PC version comes out
