GTAO events occurring 6 months prior to SP storyline

That is what R* stated when online initially went live. However, if you factor in the accelerated time, wouldn't we have surpassed the SP events timeline by now? If so what was the significance of this info?

Sorry if I'm way off base or if this has been covered already, I was just curious.

The significance is that the events of GTA Online take place before GTA V's story. When they said that, they obviously (to me anyway) weren't accounting for the passage of time in-game and neither should we.

GTA O events occur before the game.
Just because time would have passed that by now, doesn't mean the missions you replay over and over do.

Probably just a way to explain why characters such as Dom are still alive in GTA:O when they aren't in SP.

You're thinking too much into this. And besides your character meeting characters that appear in SP nothing else of significance happens.

Also going by your logic the total time you've played online is how much time has passed.

It seems that it was and is considered in every other aspect. I guess I'm really wondering if R* has a plan for merging the two timelines or if it was to simply to cover discrepancies like the one drGiggless points out.

Has online been live for 6 months? If not it's getting close.

April 1st would be the 6 months.

*Cover discrepancies

*Not wanting to use the main characters of the story line too much. Plus the whole one or more of them can die..

*Admittedly this is a bit threadbare, but it also allows us to see more of the side characters.

Nope, just musing, not gonna hurt myself thinking about it or anything.

Online time passes regardless of you being online, holidays come and go, a season changes, stuff happens.

Hmm, this lends itself to possible April fool's shenanigans I suppose.

The long and short R* used the notion of pre dating the world online as a contrivance to eliminate as much interaction with SP as possible and to potentially run your life concurrent with SP. This way you are effectively Isolated from the sh*t that goes down in SP and are free to interact with the established residents such as simeon as they are meant to be and to set your own run of events in motion.

CarimboHanky

they made clear that gtao takes place months before the event in V...

in gtao once you reach like level 50, you have already unlocked all the contacts, by level 75 you have unlocked all the missions, from there on the feeling of progress stops, you play and play and simply dont feel like youre getting any closer to the event in V, its a fact that really sucks.

That would explain why the Buffalo Mk2 (newer version) doesn't spawn in online; it hasn't been produced yet.

OP still can't get his head around how thousands of people share his apartment building even though there's only 2 vacancies :panic:

Its also in SP immediately after theaters become available long before you meet Solomon.

The answers to the OP's query are thus:

1. GTA O happens in a parrallel universe to SP,

2. It's only a video game, not real life

3. Your online character would be like any NPC charater you see wandering about the streets in SP to the story characters

4. The shenanigans your character gets up to have no impact on the events in SP.

5. Who cares? It's a game.

It really wasn't his movie was it? I thought he just got a producers credit for getting rid of whatshisface for Solomon and the film was already made or in the process of being made?

I DIDN'T EVEN THINK OF THAT, WTF!?! How does that work!?

:panic:

I'm not saying I can't just call upon suspension of disbelief, I'm cool with the fact that you carry a whole arsenal around with max ammo while riding a bicycle or that you can kill someone and receive a tasty treat and $20, I don't even raise an eyebrow to the idea of conjuring up a tank or an attack chopper from a car rental agency. I just thought it was possible R* intended on the two timelines crossing over due to them making a point of saying GTAO takes place six months before SP.

The consensus seems to be that it was to avoid any continuity issues which I tend to think was the case.

But if you have any theories on the whole "thousands of people sharing my apartment" situation, I'd like to hear 'em...I want some back rent.
