Long distance sniping now impossible?!

Sagrawa

Recommended Posts

Over the last few weeks, since the last patch, it has become nearly impossible to snipe at long distance for me. Somehow I simply can't see a player untill he's already so close that I can also shoot him with an MG, whereas before I could see a player blocks away through the scope.

I know it's not just me, as a couple of friends of mine have noticed the same thing.

Does anyone know if R* has said something about this. Or does anyone have some info on this matter? Is this per chance related to the patching of the tank sniping glitch?

Yes, which is why you cannot snipe tanks anymore.

It's f*cking annoying because I don't tank snipe, but I snipe other players who try and mess with me. So when they get out of range and magically disappear, I get pissed.

Thanks.

I already thought that it was the dumbest patch ever to take away the tank sniping. But I could live with that. This, however, makes it just completely fvcked up....just take away the sniping completely. Thanks R*, for doing a great job! :sarcasm:

Long range sniping while someone is in a vehicle is still possible but its harder because R* made the bullets ping at the vehicles and dont go through any more.If someone is on car or heli at long range you can kill him but the bullet must go through the windows

The draw distance seems to change, even from session. I want to say I can typically see an enemy at 1.5 blocks, but sometimes I'll see someone several blocks away, username floating above their head and all.

The whole thing is very strange.

I was excitedly working towards the Heavy Sniper but now I'm not bothered. Draw distance is f*cked up.

Tank sniping was the best too. It was the great equalizer.

I've noticed all sorts of rendering problems once I became a good sniper. I would have to basically guess where a blip was to get the shot. I guess it means I can snipe blind-folded. lol

Ive noticed this. Sometimes I can see players 3 blocks away other times lucky to see them on the next street corner.

No idea why it fluctuates so much but its pretty crappy. If im on the roof of the hospital near the car impound I cant see players at the gates sometimes yet others I can see playersnon thenother side of the nearby train tracks.

Draw distance on the sniper scope depends on many factors that we simply cant do anything to improve it

sniping range have been nerfed to a poing where you cant see the target on foot past the one block radius...

the only way of having a chance of seen a player on foot at a longer distance is if that target is near a car.

now that bullets have distance limitations, sniping cars pass a certain point its a bit harder.

I haven't got a lot of kills with the sniper since 1.11, probably less than 50.
And I used to kave lot of kills pre-patch (700+...), many from long distance, and tank sniping.

Rockstar doesn't seem to want people to use snipers as snipers. You must shoot from 30 feet away -_-

they dont like people with sniping skills to use those skills to their advantages

Pretty much this, they prefer people without skills or morals but with money to buy tanks, or fight tanks, or be victims of tanks.

Hey don't go blaming R* again!!!! You all know the rules, we are not allowed to have FUN. Sniping from afar can sometimes be fun to some folk so R* removed it. Nothing new here fs folks move on lol ;);)

Next thread lol

Oh, you can still have fun.

I've shot 2 people out of wall glitches in the last two weeks. Get far away, check the map and start shooting. Both were inside the mall next to LSC.

This could simply be because of different values in the timecyc. Depending on the weather, dynamic objects like peds/players/vehicles might have lower draw distances set on different weathers. Although, I'm not actually sure if there is a value for this in the timecyc, just a guess.

If someone could somehow test this, that'd be great!

I sniped a guy from downtown all the way to Weasel Plaza a few days ago.

I believe that....but could you actually see him?

I feel like the time of day doesn't affect it, but I can see the weather, esp. full rain vs. full sun.

Recently my buddy and I were taking shots at each other at about 75% the length of the LS runway, he hit my car door several times, but didn't damage my character, surprisingly. I got out and fired a few shots, got a hitmarker (surprised him) and stopped shooting.

This all took place around sunset, and I had him highlighted through the phone. I could just see him standing on the roof of his car against the landing lights on the west end.

IIRC, there was only a couple people in the server, not sure but I wouldn't be surprised if that affects draw distance as well.

That could also be a reason. The number of players/vehicles currently spawned could result in the draw distance of players and vehicles lowering to save FPS.

Sniping was so much more fun in RDR. Come to think of it, virtually everything you can do in GTA was more fun in RDR. :(

This is the main reason I think R* are purely using 360 and ps3 users as guinea pigs for the next gen releases. We r still in beta ppl. Beta where you can spend RL cash on fake ;-)

Things keep changing in GTAO, something that works one way one day doesnt work the same the next. THey r constantly testing IMO.

if you can see the vehicle they are in, you can snipe them even if you cant see the player. its still possible, but if they are on foot, nope.

I have gave up on public free roam lobbies because of this glitch/nerf. Its another reason for me to put down the game.

I can still snipe peple from several blocks away.

Its moronic that they patched tank sniping but w/e they should INCREASE the range at which players on ground render in snipers scope to make up for taking tank sniping away.

but who am I kidding...

Huh, that explains a lot then. Was next to Army Base in Alabama territory, couldn't see the guy. Go off radar, creep up, still can't see him. One minute radar finishes, I'm on the map, he turn towards me and shoots me while I was switching gun. Like, really? I never got into the tank sniping or even knew you could snipe people from cars without touching the windows, I always shot like a true sniper would and I spend most of my time in public lobbies sniping. It's not camping if I get 2-3 kills from guys that keep coming back. And that's all I get from an hour or two from public lobbies playing; 2-3 kills (when sniping). So this is f*cking retarded. Come on, R*. I've been a fan since I was a kid and now you're just taking the fun out of the game. IT'S FOOKING SNIPING, IT AIN'T NO GLITCH.

This is bullsh*t.

I managed to get a few good long shots off killing, I think, 4-5 in the last couple days. The more people in the server the less the buildings render and players too. Once it drops to less than 10 it seems to free up a little.
