Moderating gen chat

So was there a change if policy regarding gen chat? I've noticed mods telling people to stop going off topic while I was under the impression that you could say whatever you want as long as it follows the flow of discussion. I thought the point of gen chat was that it was unmoderated, and I just saw a post warning members not to "socialise" and "chit chat."

 

Genuine question, not thinly veiled complaining.

I've never can under that impression even in all the time I've been here. Maybe it's less moderated, but I wouldn't say its intention is to be unmoderated all the time.

Unmoderated apart from spam, advertising, porn, warez and hate speech. There was definitely never an attempt to control the flow of discussion like in other areas. Also the term "unmoderated" was written in the description of the section, I didn't make any inferences myself.

Gen Chat is basically to cover all other threads that doesn't fit in our current boards, it's not a free post spam fest.

Standard netiquette - no flaming, no single-image or one word replies, no porn advertising or warez - needs to be followed all over the forum. If you feel like something was unduly locked or binned, PM the moderation team.

There and the Modding Section are the places I'm most active, so..

I also have no idea how many times I've said '#Kalvin4Moderator'..

 

 

Also (to add on); at times it is annoying in topics when you're just having a bit of fun but the moderators are all up in your ass about it, but I see as to why they warn you and such anyways.

Just because it's the 'off-topic' section doesn't mean you can go around talking about laser disks in the Ukraine topic or how much pussy you get in the question topic if it's not related to the topic at hand. It's the 'off-topic' section, not the 'post whatever blathering bullsh*t you want with absolute disregard to what is being discussed' section. How many Member Photos, Hot Chick, Funny Picture, Grumpy Forumers and Question threads have we had locked because people were too glaringly stupid to keep on f*cking topic?
