Why do you play online?

This is a serious question. I asked myself this question a couple of days ago and i realized that i should play SP, which is what i did.

The only possible reason i could think of for playing online was that there are other people to play with. But then i remembered that all i do online is either avoid people in free roam, have deathmatches in free roam, or play missions i've played countless times before.

SP is more populated with peds and cars.

SP has better textures

SP has more vehicles

SP has animals

SP has countless side missions and other things i've yet to experience

SP has realistic vehicle damage

SP NPC drivers are much more intelligent

I mean really, what does online have that SP doesn't?

Playing with 15 other players in the lobby sounds great, but in reality only two things happen. One is that you avoid them, the other is that you kill each other repeatedly.

The missions were okay, but I've played them all more than once. Verified content is always terrible. Races are full of people who can't drive. Deathmatches are okay. And nobody plays the other modes.

TL;DR: Online is a tacked on after thought and most people would be happier if they just played SP.

It's just nice playing with other people, regardless of their intentions.

Oh, and PETA has nothing to do with why animals aren't online. They're in singleplayer afterall.

10 car garage....that solidifies keeping me online....

3 Characters in SP each with a 4 car garage + "Special vehicles", another one car garage at their house, and another two vehicles parked in front of each house after completion.

That's 21 vehicles, not including the DLC cars.

countless side missions in single player ?is that why I ran out of stuff to do before the year was over?

multiplayer is more fun with friends though with a headset.

I could definitely see online being fun with friends, but all of my friends have bought a PS4.

As for the missions, there is definitely more to do in SP than there is online. After you reach level 50 you've probably experienced everything unique to online. After that you're just replaying missions, which you can do with the offline missions.

Lately, I've been doing it to socialize with other players and seeing what cars they have.

Because playing online with friends is awesome and killing real people is much more satisfying than killing NPC

Because I can.

Also, because playing the role of either a young black over-achiever, a middle aged overweight con man with a "bitch about everything" complex, or a psychopathic meth head with extreme anger and denial issues gets old.

And playing missions cooperatively.

Good point OP. I am definetly looking forward to another play through in SP again soon. I played briefly tonight (took all there characters to the blue print map location with exactly 500k on me...no joy)

But I love racing online...and I do enjoy the random killings and retaliations.

"My life is a constant struggle of wanting to be alone but not wanting to be lonley"

- I don't even f*cking know who

OT: Simple. I play it because I enjoy it. Whether I'm kicking names and taking ass in races, or just dicking about in freeroam with friends, I'm always enjoying myself. Sure, there are times where I hate the game, but the same can be said for pretty much every video game that I've played. When that happens, I do what any sane/non masochistic person does and turn it off.

Acquisition.

Seriously, that, and to kill time. But, basically, I'll fixate on something, work for it (another reason I won't glitch or buy cash cards - that's part of the fun), acquire it, then move on to something else. Once I have everything I want, I'll probably get bored.

Same as in life. Fixate, work, acquire, repeat. The fun is the 'chase'. But that's about it.

Come to think of it, that's probably why I'm still single.

I'll probably go back to SP soon, though.

Yes. But this doesn't constitute it being a more fun experience inherently.

SP has better textures

Better textures does not contribute to the fun factor of a game.

SP has more vehicles

Does it? Well yeah, but only a very small handful of util vehicles and as such, hardly a positive point.

SP has animals

Cool and all, but the addition of animals to the game is more of a nice touch than a meaningful improvement. RDR did it better (IMO)

SP has countless side missions and other things i've yet to experience

There really isn't. I haven't 100% the game, because I have no desire to (and it is the collectible stuff really that is preventing that), but in many respects there is MORE in Online than SP, to do. 9 Days + of playing Online and probably been through, at best, half of the content.

SP has realistic vehicle damage

How so? Because you can be flung through your window screen in SP but not Online?

SP NPC drivers are much more intelligent

Actually, they aren't. They both use the same AI. It is just other mitigating factors that contribute to make it seem like it is the case.

I play Online because:

1) It is fun.

2) There's a whole lot to do in terms of directed content (missions, races, death matches whatever)

3) It has more longevity. I find there are more things in general that I can get up to in free roam, by virtue of there being other players, than I could possibly get up to in singleplayer.

Umm, because people are more challenging and relatively unpredictable, whereas the computer in SP is utterly unchallenging and completely predictable and easy to "cheat". I cant shoot at another player, then run to the second floor of the parking garage and the player magically cannot figure out where I disappeared to.

Did you seriously need to ask??

- Deathmatches

- Races

- Capture

- Co-op missions

If you like playing by yourself and running over animals, that's fine, but people usually get bored of this.

Online lets you keep playing and experiencing new things.

If it's any comfort to you, OP, I played SP for a few hundred hours before I started Online.

because
R* clearly don't care about the single player anymore. It was fun, really fun when I first played it. and then maybe the second time. Then it was all just stale, there was nothing to do. In Online, there's ALWAYS something to do.

Single Player feels kinda empty in a way. I know it's more populated with more things to do but just it's just nice having the unpredictability of real people, some will shoot, others will go on an adventure through the woods. It's more interesting that way.

I'm playing mostly for deathmatches and solo racing. I don't like the verified races much, but the nes created by Rockstar works

Lol, you haven't played single player at all, dude. In single player, if your car gets hit by a giant post, there is a huge hole in the center of the hood, oh, and suspension is actually realistic, your tire can get jammed and pretty much destroy any acceleration, handling, and speed. The SP vehicle damage is probably 100x more realistic than online, however, each version still doesn't make sense because

1) You can drive through signs, light posts, and man-made objects that are concreted to the ground, but you can't go through a tree, a mailbox, or the walls of buildings.
