Headsets/microphones good idea or bad idea

I was thinking how easier it would be if everyone had a way to communicate in online the amount of times a car has pulled up beside me and I've not known if they were about to shoot me or honk at me to get into their car and take me somewhere. But at the same time Ive had to put up with people speaking foreign to each other, 12 year olds begging "Don't shoot me, don't shoot me dude, i'm on your side" to people who aren't in their crew and Black New Yorkers arguing over whose going to kill who using the N word.

I don't know, it's like It would make missions and later heists easier, but at a cost as above.

I only ever have mine set to hear my friends and crew mates, that way you can chat to each other while you play but not listen to all the other rubbish.

I agree. People never use a mic but when they do all it is blare sh*tty music or tell me how much a slut my mom is.
Mic-only lobbies always has been a dream of mine. It'd be so awesome.

A chat function much like in the PC version of IV or SA-MP would be fairly useful... Might be a bit clunky for those that don't use a keyboard though...

if the whole online community (minus everybody here, for the most part, I think? y'all seem pretty cool.) didn't suck I would use my mic a lot more. Everybody's always in a pissing match with each other, even when their supposed to be on the same team.

Good idea. Frankly if there's an online portion of a game I think mics should be almost mandatory. Should you hear something you don't like, that's why there's a mute option or the ability to filter who you can hear. I play online to go against/with other PEOPLE, not scripted ass NPCs. These people having a voice only makes it better and you don't even have to talk, the main problem here is that the non-mics usually can't hear what people with mics are saying.

Basically, everyone should be made to listen, but not talk. And perhaps the amount of mutes on a person can tag them so others can be warned if they're about to get an ear full.

Somethin along those lines

I agree they should have mic only lobbies and they should come up with quick messages instead of typing it out on the cellphone and texting it to a player without a mic. Like a "get in" text or a "f*ck off" text would be nice.

If only they kept better track of bad players and good players, backing out of a game should not make your rep bad and it jus makes everyone look like a bad player and passive mode is stupid cause then you can trob stores or even take out your gun. I always assume everyone's gonna kill me so I only play online either by myself or with my friends. I like the story mode better anyway

grand theft spaghetti

its a good idea but in practice its horrible.

nonstop racial slurs and black guys calling everyone nigga.

then the occasional idiot that thinks everyone else online wants to here his attempt at being a dj.

anyone under 18 shouldnt be playing and needs to at the very least have their mic ability disabled.

report them for being minors and have rockstar disable that feature. it makes more sense then turning off the snapmatic.

I would love some mic only lobbies. As long as you can mute the trolls and people playing dumb music.

Yeah that'd be good. Something similar to Counter-Strike etc, where there are set phrases you can have your character say. You wouldn't need many. Follow me, get in, friendly, yes, no, and so on.

You could beg for mercy and you'd still get capped. I usually have my chat option set to no-one, so I wouldn't hear you anyway. I'LL KILL YOU!

My reasons for turning the chat off:

Mic breathers.

Annoying whiny kids AND adults. There are just as many annoying adults as kids.

Penis measuring guys that think they're alpha males because they can 'own' people in a video game.

Music players.

Cheap mics where you can hear muffled sounds or echoes.

Loud mics where you can hear everyone in the room.

Loud TVs.

Sailor mouths. If ANYONE uses the n-word or f*g online, I guarantee you they will swear in nearly every sentence.

I always plug in my headset and leave it laying around somewhere on mute so I don't have to hear talking through the headset or the tv. If I'm in a meet or mission hopping with the same group, I'll go ahead and use it.

It would be cool if in free roam you could only hear people up to a certain distance away. After that you'd have to call them, or have it on crew chat.

I met 5 cool people today because we had headsets on and were able to meet up, coordinate, joke around, etc. I can't imagine playing mute.

I have the Sony Headset so i have the option of turning the dial so i can turn the mics completely off so i hear only sound from the game and 99% of the time i leave it that way unless a friend comes into my session and is talking on the mic.

Otherwise my mic and headset stay in the off position except for in missions or to respond to someone question and even then i only turn my mic on to answer them and then i turn it back off so i don't bug anybody.

I wish everybody had headset like these

I just enjoy how everyone calls each other the N bomb. I'm about as swamp Yankee as one could get, yet the dipsh*ts in this game continue to upgrade me and call me brown...

Not that being a nigga designates if I'm African or caucasian, but I know what context they are using it and most of the time they are being derogatory and demeaning and say this in a racial manor.

( I've been told by snoop dog that some of these niggahs can be bitches too )

Funny thing is 70% of these geeks spewing racial slurs are clearly grass chewing Hicks from the double stack trailer park. Talk about burning white trash.

Equally impressive are the ones with some good old fashioned 80's era humor and hurl insults about my family members, generally directed towards my mom.

Mics are a great idea. Considering you can buy one that works, if not anything stellar, for about $20 why does anyone not have one?

I have a mic that I do not use, because I cannot converse fluently and play a game at the same time. I can only do one or the other. :(

i don't. i do splash baby elephants though. (i'm the third guy, counting from the middle of the clip)

seriously though, that was just a little hiccup from my punk youth. today i love you americans, with all your hubris, disconnection from the rest of the world, and terrible present day pop music! :rol:

gah, that didn't come out right i guess. what i'm saying is, it's all just fun and games. people are people, and everywhere there are such and such, yadda yadda yadda, we all love one anotha :pp

sometimes stereotypes just come to mind, but i'd never seriously reduce a person to a caricature of their heritage.

I'm always surprised to see how many people on this forum get upset about hearing people on the mic say "nigga." I understand when it's being used with -er or in a hateful way. But 90% of the time it's not. What slang you use just comes from where you grow up. I'm white, I live in Chicago. It's roughly 1/3 white, 1/3 black, and 1/3 Latino. I had several black friends growing up, when I was a kid I would say nigga just like you would use the word "dude" or "man."

I enjoy hearing people from all over the world on Xbox live. Gtao is the first game I've played online except a call of duty which I barely played. You get to learn insults from different countries. An English guy called me a "cunny." A Mexican a "Puto." Everyone seems to hate playing with the French, I haven't had the pleasure yet. I find it very cool to be playing the same game with people from all over.

you would have thought that in this year, 2014. That people would have invested $30 in a semi-decent headset that isn't some piece of sh*t bluetooth strapped to their bottom lip. But no.

I use a headset all the time but I just use the headset for listening really, it can be useful on some missions and I would imagine with the upcoming heists as well. Only used the Mic once so far when some idiots screwed up 'A Titan of a job' twice on purpose (by ramming and blocking the plane) and lost my cool.

Mine is always on. If not for talking then for listening and plotting. If I don't want to hear them I can shut voice out if the mix.
