This is my 3rd thread on this section,but this thread (might be a question) but like the title says what was the first game to introduce that feature to video game,I know Franchises like GTA (since 3) have adopted it,same with CoD,Battlefield and then Sleeping Dogs etc.but what game brought that idea up? maybe some Game Vets and Older GTA fans will know the answer...

Pretty sure some Atari games already had homing missiles, which is basically auto-aim.

Well, Syphon Filter from PSX had an auto-aim. But I doubt it was the first one to introduce this thing. It was probably invented by some 1980s-1990s retro game.

So let say a 1980s game invented an early version of that,so that makes GTA3,CoD1 and Battlefield1 the modern creators of the Auto-Aiming?

GTA isn't the first game to have auto-aim, and isn't the first to have an open world.

Judging by your post history, I doubt it.

Anyway, I would say The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is the earliest game I can think of with lock-on aim, but I'm sure there's one much earlier that did it. Like maybe After Burner.

Yeah but that either on V or GTA series' sections not on this section.but yeah it cool to that earlier games had it (i guess) :).but GTA and CoD took it to the next level in-terms of Modern day.

I'm not entirely sure how they took it to the 'next level', Auto Aim is Auto Aim is it not, you aim and it locks on - I don't see how you can take it to the next level.

The first example I can think of is GoldenEye, if we're talking console only. Doom took care of aiming the vertical axis for you, but that's not quite the same thing.

In terms of Shooting and Auto-Aiming with Helicopter's Rockets but i guess that doesnt make a next level lol :).

What's the first game that had it in the PS2 era even though you had analog sticks to freely aim with? That's the real question. Aim ASSIST doesn't count.

Prolly a console game which is 3d, i remember golden eye 64. Maybe other games to but they have to be 3d. Mario kart also auto aim with red shells but that more a bonus as real auto aim. duke nukem etc but thats cuz cant aim up or down. Auto aim sucks in multiplayer.

I want to find out who started this auto-aiming crap and make their life a living hell.

A living. Hell.

How does Auto-Aiming make gaming a living hell? i like the way GTA and CoD encourages that,i was hoping Saints Row was going to implement it but unfortunately none of SR games have it.I love Action games but when playing and trying to get a kill an aim-bot is great,but lol CoD fanboys act like CoD invent that feature,but yeah CoD and GTA are the modern day innovators of the feature (i guess) and oh i forgot Battlefield (2002) predates CoD (2003) with a year so it also included. It amazing to see alot of games implementing it,but it not forced afterall some games gives the option to turn it on-off. Edited by Blood-Is-in-Diamond

Auto aim is like cheating ( especially online thats why its very bad ), on console with storyline singleplayer you can do what you want ( atleast give option to choose if on/of ). Its not really auto aim but sektor from mortal kombat had heat seeking missele attack, if im right mk3 from 95, i think mario kart first with red shells ( guess 92 or some ). As far as you can call this auto aim. Turok 2 had it with cyberal bore, cant remember turok 1 had real auto aim gun.

But it great in Singleplayer and yeah i agree with you it cheating Online,but GTA and CoD had the options to turn it off (?) i cant remember.But yeah it pointless in Fighting Games imo....but can you remember 5-10 games that had the feature Pre -GTA3 and CoD?

Edit:I mean 5-10 games that implemented or had Auto-Aiming before GTA3 (2001) and BF/CoD (2002/2003) in terms of shooting or flying,no fighting or Post 80s games included.

GTA3Rockstar

According to this website. http://www.giantbomb.com/auto-aim/3015-145/games/ It was called Shinrei Jusatsushi for Sega Saturn but it was a rare game, other wise it was Alisha Dragoon http://www.giantbomb.com/alisia-dragoon/3030-9988/

I don't really consider a side-scroller the first, considering you can just stand in front of the target and hit it. Otherwise you have, Quake http://www.giantbomb.com/quake/3030-8015/ and Tomb Raider http://www.giantbomb.com/tomb-raider/3030-3023/

Titanfall definitely was the first game with auto-aim.

Just like Halo invented dual-wield.

Your comprehension skills are pretty poor.

As sh*t as auto-aim is, I never said it was a living hell. I said I want to findthe person that started auto-aim, and make THEIR live a living hell for ruining modern-day gaming, as if it wasn't sh*t enough.

You hope SR has auto-aim? No, you should thank the developers of SR, because considering how much they raped their own franchise to sh*t, at least they didn't bend over and let whiney children begging for auto-aim f*ck them up their arse and obliterate the last tiny shred of dignity that franchise had.

@Lazyboy

Sorry for misunderstanding what you said and as the mod already said pls no flame war,and i dont want the thread to get derailed,thanks :).but anyways Lol true SR was totally destroyed with the 3rd and 4th games but that doesnt mean it could adopt an Auto-Aiming system btw Sleeping Dogs (2012) also had Auto-Aiming and i am sure Watchdogs will hopefully :).

@Otter

Thanks for the Warning mod.

Lol Halo (2001) invented dual-wield? lol...according to GTA Wiki GTA2 (1999) had dual-weilding and that was 2 years before Halo even existed.I guess some features are shared between games but we will never know who had it first (i guess that the way it will be) some questions cant be answered lol :) but that doesnt mean GTA2 was the first to have it :)...but it was surely GTA that invented Realistic Carjacking and Hotwiring,just like the way CoD invented killstreaks and XP but that not what the thread is about :).
