Star Citizen is an upcoming space trading, exploration and combat simulator video game for PC. Star Citizen will consist of two main elements: a persistent world massively multiplayer online game mixing elements of 1st person space combat and interstellar trade (known as Star Citizen) and a branching single-player and drop-in co-operative multiplayer campaign (known as Squadron 42), together with customizable private server components.

A strong focus will be placed on player interaction, with player behavior influencing and being influenced by a dynamic economy system. Star Citizen is currently being developed by Chris Roberts Cloud Imperium Games, founded in 2011. Roberts' previous works include games such as Wing Commander, Privateer and Freelancer.

These dates are approximations. They are subject to change.

Hanger Module [August 29, 2013] - Walk around your starting hangar and view the ships you have purchased. The initial release will only feature the original pledge ships: the Aurora, Hornet, 300i, Constellation, and Freelancer, as well as the Cutlass. There will be some limited customization options and testing of the in-game purchase system. Later builds will feature more ships and more types of hangars, as well as allow you to invite friends to enter your hangar with you and use a Rift DK.
Dogfighting Module [June 4, 2014] - Exit the hangar with your ships and engage in dogfights with other players, testing for balance, functionality, performance, player count, etc. CIG's target player count per instance is >~100 players, though that may or may not be realized in this portion of the alpha.
Social/Planetside Module [August 29, 2015] - Travel to the surface of planets to socialize with other players and visit the NPCs, businesses, etc that populate the environments.

FPS Module [December 23, 2016] - Board ships and engage in firefights with combatant ship crews.

Persistent Universe Alpha [December 12, 2015] - The primary component of Star Citizen. The Persistent Universe is the open universe for you to explore. You create your own gameplay.

Squadron 42 Episode 1 [TBA] - A single player campaign that takes place within the Star Citizen universe. Able to be played off-line or with friends, you essentially sign up to fly for the UEE fleet, manning the front lines, protecting settlements from Vanduul warbands. If you prove yourself, you might get asked to join the legendary 42nd Squadron. Set up like the French Foreign Legion, they can always be found in the toughest war zones and always manage to come out on top. Once you complete your tour however, you re-enter the persistent Star Citizen universe with some money in your pocket and Citizenship to find your way. SQ42 missions will be released episodically -- roughly 10 episodes a month with a cliff hanger at the end of each set. The episodes are expected to start sometime in 2016 and total 50 missions.

Live Release [TBA] - Initial release version available for purchase. Continued support is planned, with updates on a two week cadence delivering new content, progressing the living story of the universe, and improving the game in addition to paid expansion packs to the single player campaign at some points.

I love how almost every little player action is animated in this game.

While still creating the thread I accidentally submitted it. So now I'm in the middle of "finishing" it. But as I said I'll keep it up to date.

Edit 1: So far I think it's looking pretty good =)

Edit 2: Almost done

This game keeps peaking my interest but the prices they want to get on board are astronomical. I just dropped £200 on alpha and beta tests of Elite dangerous. But the package on this game I'd want would set me back £6000 ish f*ck that! Hell they must be approaching £30 million pledged by now! they just come across as greedy c*nts please excuse my language!

They're actually approaching $41 million now. And all the ships will be available in the game from the start. Once the Persistent Universe goes online by the end of this year, you won't be able to buy ship packages anymore. You'll have to use ingame currency if you want to buy any of the ships. I'd say if you want to secure an alpha slot now and back the game, then go ahead and drop $40 on the Aurora MR+.

Remember that this game will be purely based on YOUR skill. So having a decked out ship when the game launches won't mean you'll have an advantage.

Someone made a custom map for the hanger module.

You can fly any ship in the game (even ones you don't own), mess around with the AI and buggies (carts), and test the damage states of the Hornet by blowing up tons and tons of them!

Also for screenshots, you can check out this link. There's over 600 screenshots of the hanger module. There will be more to see once the Dogfighting Module is released sometime after April 13, 2014.

I'll continue to add to this post and the OP as necessary.

Damn I knew it would end in tears. Picked it it up now and the store is just bloody addictive. If there wasn't a cap on daily credits I probably would have picked up the weapon add ons aswell as the buggy.

Can't wait to take my ships out on there maiden flight. But I'm dubious about using the maps being made by external users just in case there are repercussions. So I will probably wait until dog fighting comes out.

Wow, glad to see you're on-board. I've actually had to practice self-restraint when it comes to the store. I'm saving up for TrackIR and other stuff.

I wouldn't advise getting the weapon addons yet. Wait for the Dogfighting Module and see how the weapons play out first. There will be different maps, game modes, and ships to use in it.

As for the custom maps for the hanger, it's very safe. The devs are aware of it and don't have any problems with it. Just be sure to know what you're adding/replacing, and if anything goes wrong you can just repair the installation from the launcher :^: Personally I haven't tried it myself because, good things come to those who wait

I also added a tiny little section under 'Get To Know The Game' for the development videos. Currently there are only 3 series, all paid for by [monthly] subscribers to the game.

Wingman's Hanger is about the game's development and what work is being done at all 3 studios of Cloud Imperium Games.

The Next Great Starship is a series where backers of the game enter a contest to design a certain class of a starship to be added to the game.

10 for the Chairman is where Chris Roberts answers 10 questions about the game.

Then there's Letter from the Chairman where Chris Roberts writes a letter each time a new funding goal is met (every $1 million), and explains the stretch goals that we've unlocked.

Also be sure to subscribe to their Twitch channel if you want. They stream some pretty cool stuff from time to time

OH MY GOD!

Sucks I won't be able to play it for awhile. Having some computer troubles in the form of a dead PSU and possibly motherboard.

Nothing really. Just cleaned all the dust out of it and put it back together. It was still doing the same reboot/shut down cycle so I left it off over night.

The next morning I took the motherboard out again and saw that one of the PSU cables that went into the board was melted. Don't know how I missed that when was cleaning it, but yeah.

Will have to figure out something, but it should be an easy thing to fix. The thing is, it's been doing this for quite awhile (as in months). I somehow suspect that the motherboard is responsible.

Anyway just looked on the website and Arena Commander has been launched! :panic:

Game looks sick but damn Ryan, you really went all out on the OP.

I'm glad I'm finally properly getting into PC gaming, most of the interesting games seem to be PC game these days.

Thanks xD It was quite a bit of work but not too much. I'll have to update the OP with the date changes and other things.

Now that the dog fighting module is out, maybe this means more people will become interested in the game :D

Geralt of Rivia

I plan on getting it once it actually releases and after I've researched it extensively.

Quick question: What's the play model? Is it pay monthly, or one time purchase?

You know, you could check out some of the links I posted in the OP that I painstakingly put together =P

If you click on the Store link, it'll take you to the single ship packages where you can get a ship, hanger, alpha and beta access, as well as the single player campaign when it's complete.

In other words, you get the full game as well as a starting ship. There's no mandatory subscription model. It's also not F2P in the traditional sense.

The least amount you can spend to get full early access to the modules as well as the full game when it's released starts at $40 for the Aurora MR+

If you want to jump right into Arena Commander, it's $5. That's all this gives you though. It doesn't give you the game or any ships or anything else.

what they're doing with this game looks great, but right now I'm still an Elite: Dangerous player.

simply because E:D was ready to go before Star Citizen, but this sh*t is shaping up very nicely.

pretty sure I'll pick up SC early next year.

  • Added new Arena Commander 1.0 image with a link to the related page to the RSI site
  • Added Mustang commercial
  • Updated current fund status

why doesnt this thread have 20+ pages? i need this game

I can think of a few reasons why. Main thing is probably that not a whole lot of people on here are interested. But I do keep it up to date and bump it with new info as it comes out.

Next update will probably be in March when the FPS module gets released :^: I'm liking the updates I did to the OP. Looks spiffy :monocle:

You'd think a game with as much player funding and a studio as large as Star Citizen's would have a few more fans scattered everywhere, but hey, apparently not.

But damn, the latest trailer - made by a fan of all people. Lookin' forward to a time where I have a PC that can play whatever portions are out!

Oh, little bit of feedback for the OP, might look better if you centre the Star Citizen logo and put 'Information and Discussion' below that.

I'm very interested in this game. Way too young for Wing Commander, but I loved Freelancer and I always hoped for more good Space games.

It's just still so far away that's it's not really on my radar yet. Bascially it's so far away that I'll need a new GPU by then. I won't jump in early but wait until it's all crafted together (atleast the SP campaign) Have been following development tho, I really enjoyed the Next Great Starship Competition.

Well there are a few of us here that are interested, so that's good to see.

I really liked the newest trailer. It feels to me that is has a bit more character and emotion than the others. I hope CIG works with the fans some more in the future.

And I've centered it as suggested :^: Looks....spiffier :monocle:

pretty sure the reason why this game doesn't have more people talking about it on GTAF is because GTAF is heavily populated by pirate children. kids here talk about any game they can get their hands on, but you can't pirate Star Citizen, so none of the kids here have it yet.
it's the same story with Elite: Dangerous, the main rival to SC.

right now I'm an E:D player, but I definitely want to pick up SC in 2015.
E:D also feels like it has a small fanbase compared to other similar titles but once you're ingame the servers are always full and busy with activity. the reason it doesn't feel that way from the outside is because games like these are pretty much only played by adults so there's low turnover.

the youngest players I've encountered in E:D are like 14-15 years old and they're very mature.

their parents probably bought them the game.
