NPCs talk in different languages?

Something weird happened the other day.

 

I logged in, spawned at my apartment. My usual routine is to get a drink of whiskey, smoke some pot, then I watch the Weazel news to see what the other players on the server are doing. One guy, a level 114 named "BadBoyBrazil292", or something similar to that, was griefing another guy by continually sniping him which prevented him from getting his car at the Vinewood Hills LSC parking lot, at least that's what it looked like. So I call up Lamar, and send a mugger after him to help the other guy out.

 

My mugger approaches, and knocks the Brazil guy to the ground, he has zero dollars though, and once he gets up, he shotguns my mugger to death. Here's the weird part, the NPCs on the street all started shouting in Portuguese! I am a Blue Belt in Brazillian Jiu-Jitsu, and I'm around a few Brazillians when I'm practicing at the school, and so I know what Portuguese sounds like, even if I am not a fluent speaker.

Has anyone else noticed the NPCs speaking in different languages while observing other players on Weazel News? Kind of surprising.

All the time, especially Chinese. Many suited pedestrians are Chinese business men and they constantly answer the phone in Chinese. I'm Chinese too so I can pick up on their conversations.

I have seen heard one guy speak in some kind of Muslim Language. He spawns somewhere near the Industrial Area and sometimes near the docks.

I hear NPCs speaking Korean. Proper grammar, good accent, the whole nine yards. Good improvement over IV whose Koreatown had signs that meant sh*t like "conveni-mart-comp-salon-ment"

Yep I've witnessed it too los santos is an multi-culturial diverse place just like its real life counterpart los angeles. Even liberty was like that as well.

Pedestrians always speak in multiple languages. I know it was like this in GTA 4 as well, but I don't remember any games prior to that. I think in GTA 4 a lot of the pedestrians spoke Russian.

I think that if a player is from a different country that speaks a different language, the GTA Online version would be made to suit that country's language.

Example: If someone from France was playing GTA Online, the characters and the NPCs in that version would be programed to be speaking French. So if you are watching another player on Weasel News and you hear other languages, chances are that player is from a different country.

I don't know if this made sense.

I mean like Rockstar makes it like they normally would, but before it got released in non english speaking countries, they would have voice actors/actresses dub it to their own language, like anime.

Not only different languages but also various accents. You have the typical mexican peds (The ones that mix english and spanish words) and others that'll only speak spanish (Generally spawn next to the LSC in Rockford Hills).

 

But I also came across a female ped from Spain since she used terms like "Me cago en la leche" y "Gilipollas" that are common swears in Spain.

 

And also I found a british female ped...I know because she threatened me to call the police and then said "I'm english"

Yeah I got the "understand nothing" part too but I'm not great at Spanish and he mumbles a little.
