They've confirmed nothing. Some debris was found on satellite images of the area. A search aircraft is currently en-route to the area and will arrive around 8pm AEST (9am GMT). A merchant ship is nearby and will arrive in the area in the next 12 hours. Australian Navy ships are still days away. There is absolutely no reason for the plane to have been where this wreckage has been spotted. I understand that you feel a certain way about the situation but it's useless to continue the search. The airliner is gone and 200+ people are dead. What else is there to do? The only way the airline industry can improve the security and safety of its aeroplanes is to find out exactly what went wrong in every incident (every crash, every in-flight malfunction, every hijacking, etc) and then build upon that knowledge and rectify any highlighted problems to ensure the same thing doesn't happen again. It's extremely important to the airline industry (and us, its passengers) to know what went wrong with the plane. If it was equipment malfunction or structural failure that brought the plane down, it may well affect the entire fleet of Boeing 777s of every airline in the world. If it was terrorism that resulted in the disappearance of the aircraft, we need to know that too, so that the USA can start another pointless war.
