DODI3OG
they need to get rid of the modern day story imo. Right. Because it's just ruining the mood of the game. One moment you're in the past, then it's cut off by something that doesn't even relate to it. I just hope they make an Assassin's Creed spin-off set during this time. It should be more like W_D. Instead of free-running on buildings, it should be similar to GTA where you have to drive-and shoot...minus killing random pedestrians. The player should also be punished for killing an innocent civilian. If he does so, his fellow assassin's would kill him off-sight. It should also connect to the previous, "non-Animus" Assassin's Creed title. Edited June 18, 2014 by <Yang3 Peregrin Brandytook

Davo the Assassin
I guess I'm the only person who doesn't mind the modern day portions of the game I personally actually really like the modern element. I dunno, it just felt like it helped link all of the random elements of the different time phrases together into a over-arching, if not perfect storyline. GunWrath
Yeah, I like the modern day missions and scenes that were a part of the games. It gave you a feeling of being immersed in the story as well as a decent break from running around looting and sh*t. Some of the modern missions were fun as well, like the one where you had to climb the skyscraper at one point or was it the construction building, I can't remember it exactly.. anyways, that was cool. Though some of the cutscenes were rather boring or too long.. but either way, it was needed. I think it helps players get an idea of what the story is really about rather than throwing out subtitles or random memory sequences and expecting players to remember it. It allowed players to have a part in the story and possibly 'write/forge' the future of the series in their minds. tuareg
The modern day parts are to Assassins Creed what Marty McFly is to BttF. Its the glue that holds the story together It's really not though. It's just pointless filler content at this stage. I can see if someone enjoys them, but apart from the modern day sections in brotherhood all the rest was just a cluster of brain damage or an excuse to grab me out of the original story. Creed Bratton
So it is an Assassin - Templar love story I guess... I'm actually intrigued by the revelation in the trailer. It's about time Ubisoft did Templars justice. As much as I love Ezio trilogy, Templars there have been portrayed like classic comic book villains. It wasn't like that in AC1 and we've seen snippets of better written Templars in AC3 with Haytham. Hopefully the line between good and evil will be further blurred in Unity. Long story short, this could be a sign of some good stuff. Edited July 29, 2014 by The Yokel Secura and Davo the Assassin
HaythamKenway
I still want an AC game with Haytham as the lead character. Playing as Connor was even bigger kick in the balls than it would have been without him, because he was just so much more interesting.

Whenever you killed a templar target there would always be some sort of monologue where they explain their intentions. Those monologues actually give the player insight into the Templars' reasoning, almost like the other side of a coin.

Davo the Assassin
I kind of feel that some modern day segments are necessary. Especially as the whole point is that the Animus is used to look into specific memories with a goal in mind. I just think they tried to get a little bit too ambitious with the whole end of the world thing. I like the thought of looking further into the Templars side of things. I really enjoyed the whole Conor and Haytham working together parts of ACIII. Makes the enemy more interesting if they're not just card board cut out bad guys. Jabalous
New gameplay demonstration from Gamescom I'm amazed by this game more and more. It shows clear advancements over the old games especially in the animations and visuals department, thanks to the new accessible powers of the PS4/XONE. This video gives away an original Assassin's creed atmosphere, that is, there is a focus on direct stealth-based assassination missions with no over-complicated and poorly designed gameplay distractions. The visual element is the one that shines more and it gives Paris a very cold and depressive look with that soft lighting. Also, the facial animations and especially the lip-syncing is something I've never seen before. It's the first time since Assassin's Creed Brotherhood I get interested in an AC game. They're acceptable at best in free to play games, but in a game which costs up to £50 for a standard copy it's just wrong. Then again this is Ubisoft! Jvaz615
Its not just Ubisoft. Almost every game company has done this. EA, Rockstar, Ubisoft. Its something that we are stuck with. If it doesn't negatively affect my game, I don't care

Jvaz615
Probably not. They said they want combat to more difficult so the emphasis is on stealth rather than running head first into battle all the time. Which I am totally fine with. It is Assassins after all. As much as I love the other AC games, it was too easy mode in fights. Hit button WIN. Well in Unity, Arno starts out as a novice assassin and we have to level up to earn skill points to improve our abilities. Stealth is gonna be very important for at least half the game. HaythamKenway
From what I've seen yet, Unity looks like what AC 1 should have been. I have to appreciate this kind of going "back to the roots". Instead of just scratching everything and essentially remaking a ten year old game with some modern cr*p like microtransactions and multiplayer, like other developers like to do when they go back to the roots, Ubisoft is taking AC 1 and finally using it's strenghts and the concept to their potential. Of course, no one knows how the game will turn out in the end. I just hope they'll deliver in the freedom of how the player can approach the missions. You can have emphasis on stealth, discourage players from open combat and less "press X to win" gadgets, but if the game ends up holding your hand through cinematic setpiece after cinematic setpiece, it would probably just straight kill the game for me.
