The forgotten Banshee is surprisingly OK! :)

Recommended Posts

I've been trying all the sports cars out as I like to do from time to time (driving style seems to change with experience) and trying as many fully modded as possible, mainly round Cutting Coroners to mirror the tests Broughy does on YouTube and compare times.

I know he (Broughy) doesn't fully mod all the cars so I was trying some of the slower ones which he dismisses and it seems they're all a lot closer when modded. The Banshee for me seems to have a great blend of handling and performance. Some are really nice unmodded but are more difficult to control when fully souped up. Cars like the 9F get quite "drifty" while in standard tune are near perfect, the Carbonizarre as well, remains sharp and controllable but does kick out at the back needing correction, which is easy with it (I would say it's still my favourite to drive) but does slow it down.

The Elegy is the fastest sports no doubt, I get around Cutting Coroners in around 56 seconds in it, could do faster I'm sure but generally I only run the 2-lap races while playing with the cars so not much scope for a "best lap". The following pack are all close, the Jester maybe edging it for me at about 57 seconds but after that they're all very tight - the Banshee taking around 58-59 secs and right in the mix.

The thing is the Banshee has a very nice handling balance and I think on less familiar tracks that would be an advantage over the cars which over or understeer - the grippier cars like the Elegy tend to understeer unless you provoke them with the handbrake while the Comet/9F etc oversteer and can slide too - when you're not 100% familiar with the track that can easily mean a crash and lost race, the Banshee sits right in the middle and accelerates as fast as any when modded (I have a 30-second-ish straight-ish track I use for RP and the Banshee is faster than the Elegy on it).

So nothing exciting but just saying don't always write-off the cheaper options which no-one seems to drive. They can be very respectable and if you're like me and don't like to just go around in an Entity/Jester like most of the crowd there are certainly some interesting and competitive choices once all is modded up.

It's not a very cool story.

in an Entity/Turismo like most of the crowd

Fixed.

I love the Banshee's IRL counterpart, but the car isn't a thrill to drive to me. Same goes for the Elegy.

I beg to differ. Both the IRL and GTAV variants are quite fun to drive.

Now if only I actually could fit my fat ass into a Viper...

Woah, woah, take it easy, man!

Lol, it's true though and I hope Ninja_Gear doesn't see my post cos I know he's an infernus enthusiast

Yeah but Ninja_Gear fanbois all over GTA IV so he'll be cool wit it.

I test drove one of the newer 8.3 Litre Vipers for an overseas customer (I'm in the UK) - it was ok but I can't help but feel you'd need far bigger roads and no speed limits to get the fun out of it! I think just getting into 3rd was around 90mph and I never even got to rev the engine much as it was constantly well over the speed limit! :D It's a shame when the car's too much for the road - my old 1.0 Mini was massive fun in comparison!

I don't like the standard Banshee much but fully modded it goes and sounds far better! :)

Off topic, Coin/Bio every time I try to think straight and type a rebuttal I look at your pictures and think..but who the f*ck can focus with all this twerkin' goin' on? Good god.

Now back on topic I wanted to buy the banshee because you know, GTA3 and all that good stuff. But then I started reading more negative things by the visitors of this forum than good stuff. And I skipped out on buying it, it didn't feel like it had good handling either when I was driving one I had stole from a ped a while back. Maybe it was because I was being chased by cops and didn't know how to handle it? I don't know I like the look of it but would anyone say it is reallly worth it to give it a slot in their garage?

Haha how can I forget? No need to ask got milk thanks to your picture bwahaha.

I've got it along with an Elegy (which I've never liked the look or principal of but it's fast) and Frank's Buffalo - because it looks and sounds awesome and seats 4. I use that for cruising when I want to just randomly kill people so I seem more badass... :D

My Banshee is black and gold, looks "OK" but not amazing (no pic yet) - a little oldschool and meaty though, the flames from the side exhausts do look cool as well - it's a shame you can't smoke the windows either as that might help. There are better Sports options no doubt, but it's definitely competitive when fully modded and I think it's a safe racing option for the reasons I went into - I guess it's a hipster thing and the need for change, there aren't many in use so it's a bit more individual, if I had to stick to one car I'd probably keep my old Carbonizarre as the best looking, sounding and driving sports option (even if it's not the fastest on a tight track!).

The other thing is of course is that the Banshee is a cheap option, if $105k can be called "cheap". :\

My other character has a Jester, it's a very nice car but undulating tracks can catch it out and cause it to slide a bit, kind of the opposite of the Buffalo above...

*Edit - figured I'd fill the post with pics for no particular reason.

Oh yeah, 105 is a steal honestly I could go get that right now. But I see where you are coming from. Like I said I love the banshee it was my favorite in GTA3 not so much in GTA4 and I am kinda 'meh' in GTA5 on it but hey everyone has their own taste. If you can control it then do you, I know if I drive it I am gonna be sliding and slipping like the streets are made of ice and diamond. o.o

Fully modded I have no problems with it, it's about in the range of the Coquette for grip I'd say - nowhere near as slidey as the Comet or 9F but more than the Elegy or Feltzer. :)

*Edit again - I find I spin the Feltzer far more often despite the grip, not really sure why...

Banshee from gta3 was better

Was just about to say this, it's not as good as it used to be. Same as the infernus in GTA V, it was much better in IV

I have to agree with that. I used to win the crap out of races with the Infernus in IV. The Comet and Infernus where greatly balanced out for racing back in the day.

Woah, woah, take it easy, man!

Lol, it's true though and I hope Ninja_Gear doesn't see my post cos I know he's an infernus enthusiast

Yeah but Ninja_Gear fanbois all over GTA IV so he'll be cool wit it.

Not-Sure.jpg

Thats also true.

I think i mostly just miss the 'no control factor of the old physics' There is just to much control over your car on the ground and air in V. It takes away the feeling any wrong move has consequences.

gta IV had better in air control. hold down both triggers and the car rotated much faster than it does in V.

Yeah but if you did it wrong, you could be left with an upside down car. And the physics where a ton better IMO. I'll just leave it at that before flame war zero starts.

(did you know the rotation glitch is still in the game?) the "flip a uhaul or firetruck or semi truck on its side and spin it like a helicopters blade. Although now in 5 the vehicle wants to go back on all 4 wheels constantly and the faster you spin, the car automatically goes back on all 4 wheels :\

That trick was so freakin awesome, I remember doing it with a firetruck, spraying out water into the air like a spinning fountain  I didn't know it still work mate. To bad its nerfed. R* logic 'Can't have people having fun while spinning around their trucks'

uptownrockstar

I have a fully modded bashee, bought during the billionaire days; when I had a garage of "drivers" cars. Then the purge happened, and I was left with 10 cars of lesser value (not even one super).

Have my garage percect now, minus a muscle car. But my banchee with the rx7 kit STAYS!

twannie1997

I had one (bought during the free money for everyone days), but I soon grew over it. Even though it looked great in GTA 4, it just didn't feel right anymore. I still love it's looks and that it inspired the brand new Viper as well, but.. I don't know what to say.

May have been it's green and black color combination.

No mention of the Coquette hey.

I had a Banshee for a long time but decided to try the Coquette and really like the way it sticks to the road compared to the Banshee. I found the sound of the Banshee kind of annoying also.

I know its not as fast as the Elegy but its got to be up there.

It's my favorite car to drive in GTA V. It just feels right. It isn't on rails like most of the other sports cars, but at the same time it isn't completely unruly at high speeds like the Comet or Surano. Like vipprimo said, the sports class is relatively balanced so it comes down to driver skill more than car selection in random races. I always get satisfaction of seeing this:

1. Ermac. Banshee

2. Elite_X_Sniper Elegy RH8

3. youremother Carbonizzare

4. poonpounder69 Carbonizzare

5. legendofpie Feltzer

6. KillerJay99 Elegy RH8

7. gettinmunny97 Elegy RH8

8. xXn0sc0pezXx Coquette
