Crews and Crew loyalty

Recommended Posts

So I'm talking to someone the other day about Crews and pretty much why I'm trying to separate myself from the insanity before it's too late.

Anyway one of the guys pipes up and says something about people being loyal to their Crews. I kept thinking about that and the more I thought about it the more confusing it got.

So I want to hear what everyone thinks about Crew demands and I'll provide some excellent topics to hear from you guys and your expectations both as Crew leaders and Crew members and maybe we can see this better.

What do you feel about this (these are all real demands I've heard):

  • Crew says you can't join any other Crew
  • Crew says you can't wear any other cloths (even if other members are exempted).
  • Questions your loyalty when you hang out with someone outside the Crew.
  • Requires you to play your highest level character.
  • Crew requires you to change you xBox Gamer Tag at your own expense.
  • Questions your leadership because you joined another Crew for an afternoon or because you didn't play every day.
  • Crew says you aren't playing with them enough.
  • Leader boot you for any of the above reasons without notice and unfriends you if applicable and refuses to talk to you, maybe even blocks you.

Now I could be wrong this isn't a game and all this gestapo nonsense is what you guys expect so please provide me with input.

BTW, if you run a Crew and you're making noise that you agree with this then please post up why! Don't just say, "because I'm the leader" either. I need to know what the big deal is.

UPDATE: I also want this to remain productive. No finger pointing. If you do anything above then let us know why. It's all about understanding.

I'm in a MC & our rules aren't that strict. we don't allow members to be part of other MC's, but a lot of the things you listed are silly. it seems like the crew you're describing has control issues.

They seem ridiculous...men/guys being possessive over other guys online. lol Bizarre. I've already joined and left two crews; they were lame. However having said that maybe this possessiveness keeps the crew tight knit, active, productive and social.

Some people would feel the "can't be a part of another crew" is silly. So my question is why is it bad that they can be a member of another Crew? Many have told me that's a control issue.

For instance they join IGN to get some people in TDM because you have a small Crew and people aren't on. I've seen people get booted for that.

What do you feel about this (these are all real demands I've heard):

  • Crew says you can't join any other Crew

Understandable

Crews don't want members that just join the crew and don't become active at all in it. We personally don't mind members being in multiple crews, but I see why that's a rule.

  • Crew says you can't wear any other cloths (even if other members are exempted).

Stupid

I can only see this being enforced at meets, otherwise it just seems annoying. I would hate to get ridiculed just for not using a crew colored shirt. Required crew vehicles are dumb too.

  • Questions your loyalty when you hang out with someone outside the Crew.

Stupid

No way a player should have to dedicate 100% of their play time to crew members. They've got other things to do.

  • Requires you to play your highest level character.

Stupid

I don't even see why this would be a rule. I guess the crew just wants as much muscle as possible?

  • Crew requires you to change you xBox Gamer Tag at your own expense.

Understandable

This is completely understandable if multiple members already have their gamertags changed. It'd be stupid to join a crew with matching gamertags, and be the odd one out.

  • Questions your leadership because you joined another Crew for an afternoon or because you didn't play every day.

Joining other crew = Understandable

Didn't play every day = Stupid

I guess if you're a high rank in the crew like commissioner or lieutenant and you join a crew, a crew leader or fellow members could get upset about that.

Didn't play every day though? Nah, some people have other things to do.

  • Crew says you aren't playing with them enough.

Really stupid

Refer to above, lol.

  • Leader boot you for any of the above reasons without notice and unfriends you if applicable and refuses to talk to you, maybe even blocks you.

I got booted from a tight-knit crew recently after changing my active crew to MODified. We're still friends though and he said it was nothing personal, it's just that some crews expect 100% dedication to their crew, which like I said, is understandable. Unfriending you though? Lol it's just a game.

Anyone that joins IGN or any other open Rockstar crew for any reason should be kicked from the game as well as the crew.

  • Crew says you can't join any other Crew

I wouldn't want to be in another crew anyway, but this rule is implied so that the crew is active and doesn't have 300 members of nobodies.

  • Crew says you can't wear any other clothes (even if other members are exempted).

This is to make the crew more of a role-play type of thing, more serious. I wouldn't join a crew with this rule personally.

  • Questions your loyalty when you hang out with someone outside the Crew.

Again my crew doesn't do this, but it seems like an obsessed girlfriend. No thanks. The point is to keep up activity, but this sounds too far.

  • Requires you to play your highest level character.

Don't know many crews that do this, they may just want you to have all weapons and sh*t for crew battles, but playing normally in a free roam I think this is a silly rule.

  • Crew requires you to change you xBox Gamer Tag at your own expense.

No. The reason is to look good and 'scare' people, but no.

  • Questions your leadership because you joined another Crew for an afternoon or because you didn't play every day.

Again this sounds like they want to make sure you won't f*ck off, but it's too attached.

  • Crew says you aren't playing with them enough.

Depends on the reason, they want to make sure you are still interested in the crew, they might just want to know if anything is wrong.

  • Leader boot you for any of the above reasons without notice and unfriends you if applicable and refuses to talk to you, maybe even blocks you.

Who cares, plenty of clans out there and if that was the leadership then it must of been sh*t anyway.

The street bike crew im in has the following rules set

Respect every member and his bike. No bullies or trolls

Do not kill members of the club (unless permitted by the target)

Do not kill allied club members

Fist fights are allowed if both parties agree

When we ride try to stay close and in a decent formation

You should have a mic

Be active on Social Club

Be active in game

When you are with us ride your bike.

No crazy wierd color combos on your bikes. Have some taste.

No modding, glitching, hacking

No Tank grefing

Clothing should is free choice but shouldnt be anything wierd looking

I think these are very good rules to be set for a club or crew. Obviously you want loyalty and people who wont kill their brothers. But when it comes to trying to control every aspect of the game for someone else. Thats crossing a line.

Your Crew rank stays with the Crew. In other words, everything you gave to the Crew while wearing their badge stays with the Crew. If you leave the Crew doesn't lose the XP you earned while playing with them. If you leave and come back you still have the rank you had when you left.

I'm in a crew for Lazer pilots, and we have several unspoken rules with only one real "tenet": you cannot shoot down a crew member's Jet in a public session, unless the context allows some humor to be derived from it (example: placing a sticky bomb on someones Jet before they take off, forcing them to answer ridiculous trivia questions and detonating their Jet when they get a question wrong).

Other than that, we prefer people to come to Jet Deathmatches often and we only kick people who are (in the nicest way possible) wastes of space as we prefer to keep our membership low and solid so that everyone knows each other. We allow people to use other crew tags but it's hard to get past Representative if you do. This isn't so much a loyalty issue as it is a practical one as any activity while wearing another crew's tag only adds statistics to that crew.

We frown upon taking real action against loyalty issues and actively distrust anyone who suffers from the "people as property" mentality.

I joined a crew so I'd have a larger player base when hosting missons...I don't really know any of them and usually have to battle them cuz they always shoot at me haha

imo, the only strictly enforced crew rule should be not to kill or grieve allied crew members, unless both parties are aware its a crew battle...

everything else is silly

What a waste of money to change your gamer tag for a crew in GTAO.

I can already see you guys are really missing out on the fun. I get probably 7 or 8 Crew invites a week and it's easy just to go to the Crew page and watch what is going on and reading the insanity that ensues.

So what I hear is that people who say no other Crew just want someone to be active and not taking up space. The question is how does that apply to someone in the Crew? Lets say I get on one afternoon and I have one friend who is playing with his Crew and needs help with something so I join them and you're getting upset because your Crew, a complete bunch of strangers, are yelling at him because he isn't there at your beck and call. You see what I mean?

And on playing with the Crew not enough, so lets say you go on vacation and the complete strangers you know boot you from the Crew?

It still comes back the idea that a bunch of strangers are asking you "all or nothing" and it doesn't make any sense.

I'm just waiting for one of the psychos to pop up and say something but it appears they're all hiding away now.

My wife got invited (and joined) the "GIRL" crew (Girls on GTA is the name of the crew)....

The only thing the "leader" "demands" is no killing other crew members and no killing other Ally Crews. There are around 400 in the crew.

I think what the crews above (what you described) are mostly made up of kids who want to role play the gangster..... which is nothing wrong with that (unless it costs real life money for you to have a new gamertag? idk, I play PS3 and everything is free). If a crew leader is asking people to spend real life money, then there is a problem....

But if they aren't asking you (or forcing you) to spend money, than there isn't anything wrong with role playing in a video game...... that's one main point of video games.... to be able to do something that you can not in real life.

PERSONALLY though, what you described sounds insane to me and I would never get involved with that crap.

But whatever floats their boat

Being the president of a crew, I don't care what people do as long as they don't abuse the powers I give them. Having strange rules only limits your crews experience, even if your crew is "niche". We try to vary the things we do, and make sure we have fun in the process.

As a commissioner of OBFL here's how this list stacks up with our crew...

Crew says you can't join any other Crew

Definitely law around here...

Crew says you can't wear any other cloths (even if other members are exempted)

We have no rules on what type of clothing you have to wear, your choice... the clan sig before your username says it all

Questions your loyalty when you hang out with someone outside the Crew.

No way this would fly with us... we prefer that you "hang out" with crewmates just to get to know them but we wont trip if you're online in a session with one of your friends who aren't in the crew...

Requires you to play your highest level character.

P ure bull... no way would we even agree to some crap like this...

Crew requires you to change you xBox Gamer Tag at your own expense.

I wish I thought someone asked me to change my gamertag to join a crew for one game... GTFOH!!

Questions your leadership because you joined another Crew for an afternoon or because you didn't play every day.

Two part answer here... joining another crew is a violation... not playing everyday, no big deal... we all have lives outside of GTA V

Crew says you aren't playing with them enough.

Sounds like a whining little teenager or adult with no life... OBFL does not support this... LOL

Leader boot you for any of the above reasons without notice and unfriends you if applicable and refuses to talk to you, maybe even blocks you.

We always give fair waring when any of the rules are violated before booting from the crew... now if those violations are not corrected within a specific time limit... you gotta go!

So lets say a member's brother creates a Crew and during the day he wants me to play with him on TDMs and at night you guys come on and he switches back to your Crew and play with you guys. He really does like your Crew and you like having him around.

Does this guy get booted when he says it's BS that you won't let him play with his brother's Crew?
