Are Rednecks a problem where you live?

Recommended Posts

I said I consider peoples personality types as what makes someone a "redneck". This can be rich, poor etc. The Nelson Mandela thing was just an example as to how closed off and ignorant this person was. One example I picked out of many as this was the most recent. That's what it has to do with this. I have no idea how you could have taken away anything sinister or discriminatory from my post. Does it help that these people I described are all white?

I did write that I think all people who like guns, live in rural areas and drive pick ups are not necessarily rednecks.

For me, a redneck is someone who behaves like I described rather than arbitrary lifestyle choices like living in the country and collecting guns etc. People who do that can be just as knowledgable or the exact opposite of a redneck. If that makes sense.

I realize I'm not using the term redneck in the normal way but that's my thoughts on the issue. I'm not exposed to the stereotypical American hillbillies all the way here in Canada.

Anyway, those are my thoughts. I don't care to debate them further.

Max: I agree. I know people like that, too. Like I said, redneck to me doesn't take on the stereotypical meaning based off aspects like rural living, guns etc. Mostly applies to ignorant, clueless, closed off people. This can be anyone no matter their lot in life. Probably not the correct usage of the word but meh I'm in Canada. We don't have pick up truck driving confederate flag waving individuals like some people classified as rednecks.

Most people in America don't even understand what the confederate flag stands for so a flag with a leaf on it flying off the back of the truck would be fine

If by personal freedom you mean the right to own human beings, and opposition to tyranny you mean the right to discriminate without the government interfering, then you are absolutely correct.

Here in Finland, rednecks are a problem in rural areas. And since about 90% of FInland is considered rural, they are a huge problem.

Our rednecks are gun toting, poaching and inbred breed. It's rather scary to travel in more rural areas because you never know when a car will stop by and out jumps some redneck youths intent on killing and raping you. Seriously. I do not recommend travelling in Finlands countryside to foreigners. Especially blacks are in danger getting shot on sight by some overzealous and racist redneck.

Jesus Christ what a load of crap. Roam back to your hole and shame.

The Leviathan

The confederate flag is a symbol of personal freedom and opposition to tyranny.

Yet people in the North continue to rock it... patriotically.

While we're on the topic of confederate flags, does anyone else find it funny that they fly the BATTLE flag as opposed to the NATIONAL flag of the CSA?

Living up north, there is no such thing as rednecks.

Parts of upstate New York and the northern half of New Hampshire would disagree.

I'm going to absolutely have to disagree. I live in the Mohawk Valley of New York, which is about dead center in the state. This area is full of more rednecks, real or fake, than anywhere else I've ever been. Lift kits, chewing tobacco, and muddy trucks everywhere you look. If you drive farther north and into the southern parts of the adirondack state park, things get almost primal. 20 snowmobiles in someone's front yard. Trailers boarded together to make a double wide, the nearest jobs are 20 miles away. I almost feel bad for them. Almost.

Why are you disagreeing then? That's exactly what he's saying.

I'm a Canadian redneck, but I don't think I'm a problem to anyone and I drive a lifted Jeep Cherokee (not truck) and I am definitely not racist. Stereotyping is never a good idea. There are good and bad people in any group but to say "all ________ are ________" makes you look like the bigot.

I live on a nice, coastal beach town so no, rednecks are not a problem. However in the summer time, we have "shoobies." Here in New Jersey, specifically the southeastern region of the shore, shoobies are day-trippers (who in the 1980's, used to bring their lunch in shoe boxes hence the coined term "shoobies") from other areas that come quite often to steal our parking spots and litter our once clean, soft beaches. They also think they own the beach, which is laughable in my opinion.

I've had my fair deal with shoobies before. I can't say I haven't met a redneck one, or couple, at least. But when I did, I didn't like it because they were so stupid, cocky and simpleminded.

A lot of you need to learn exactly what the Confederate flag(s) stood for. They weren't for slavery, you have to understand that the Confederacy was being formed before slavery was an issue to be abolished and before Lincoln was even inaugurated. The flags didn't represent slavery, they represented as Baker stated, freedom and opposition from tyranny in the eyes of the few leaders who met to form the CSA.

I personally fly the flag in my front yard along with the former GA Flag. Not because I'm a slave owner, lol but I am a son of the south and descendant of those who fought for the very same ideals over a century ago. Am I a redneck? Not at all I would say, just southern, noone is really a redneck, that's just stereotyping, use the word Southern.

He already said he is a proud southerner. Im pretty sure you're going to have a hard time rattling his cage by calling him a redneck even though he said he doesn't like the word. He's probably heard it hundreds of times before

I know rednecks get their feathers in a rush if you call them "white trash".

Well i still don't know exactly what occurred in "theadmiral pm incident". No one will enlighten me. And GunWrath doesn't seem dumb to me. Atleast from what I have seen. He made the logo for my concept.
