I won't surpise anyone probably:

1. GTA IV, pinnacle of the GTA, with living world, interesting story, cool characters and atmosphere blowing out of the shoes.

2. GTA VC, gem of 3D era. Fantastic atmosphere, cool characters and a tons of reference to the '80s

3. GTA VCS, younger brother of VC and pinnacle of 3D era in terms of gameplay and mechanics. And also the neons, the neons.

  1. VC - Favorite and best GTA in the whole series IMO. Great protagonist, atmosphere, characters, setting, perfect story and that 'magic'

SA - Best map in the series with a lot of unique parts, three cities, bunch of unique and mini features, full customization,'good' & long story, over 100 unique missions and variety in everything (missions, clothes, vehicles etc...)

IV - Best story in the series amazing, detailed and alive city, GREAT protagonist, good characters, well done side missions, perfect realism

MythicalCreature

Not Counting the graphics and games I haven't played,

1. GTA III - The most original storyline, most unique setting, interesting characters and so on. Only place it lacks is in gameplay.

2. GTA IV - Greatest Storyline ever, Awesome and most original characters and one sick city to top off with a side order of realism. Wasn't perfect, though. The city could have had some extra stuff not to mention better names, please.

3. GTA SA - EPIC map, Nice theme and storyline, though it feels messy and exaggerated at times, and of course, the sh*tloads of fun, crazy and downright chaotic sh*t you could do (though I think V surpasses SA there, didn't play it, didn't name it).

And there goes my list.

1. GTA IV - The best GTA ever. First of all, great story and interesting characters. After the Niko and the other characters, the game has a realistic atmosphere you can easily feel, especially during missions. Yeah, IV takes the top of my list.

2. GTA VCS - I don't know but I always liked Vice City Stories for some reason. Not for the setting, I think because I don't like Vice City so much. I enjoyed the majority of the missions, and story, and the protagonist Victor. Also empire building system was fun and totally worths to waste your time on.

3. GTA III - Although being dark (most people whined like a little baby about it, I have no problem with it), III has the most appealing atmosphere any GTA game has ever had (also the darkest and the grittiest). A story that deserves to be played and many interesting characters to bump on. It's fun to play when you have a cool, charismatic protagonist like Claude.
