Anyone play an instrument?

I played the viola for two years about five years ago and had fun with it. I think I´d like to pick up the violin whenever I get money for it, since you can't really find much good sounding viola sheet music.

Anyway, here's a picture (I played a middle school rental, so mine wasn't as pretty):

And here are some viola jokes I like, since my post is pretty boring and not about guitars (which are a joke in their own right :p).

  • How do you get a viola section to play spiccato?

Write a whole note with "solo" above it.

  • What's the difference between a viola and an onion?

No one cries when you cut up a viola.

  • Why don't violists play hide and seek?

Because no one will look for them.

  • What's the definiton of "perfect pitch?"

Throwing a viola into a dumpster without hitting the rim.

  • Why is a viola solo like premature ejaculation?

Because even when you know it's coming, there's nothing you can do about it.

  • Why can't you hear a viola on a digital recording?

Recording technology has reached such an advanced level of development that all extraneous noise is eliminated.

In all seriousness I have owned instruments including a first act acoustic guitar, an electric guitar, a harmonica, a ukulele, and a recorder/flute/idk but I never played them nor have I ever known how to. I wish I could just have all the info just downloaded into my brain. Along with all the worlds languages. To be completely honest as well, whenever I pick one up it just feels so...not right. I just get a feeling as if the instrument were saying " sorry dude i'm just not the right one (instrument) for you " I think it may be intimidation from knowing the task ahead. Trying to learn a new thing that actually takes more effort than reading a sentence is completely foreign to me unfortunately.

Quit lying, the only one you play is the skin flute.

I told you not to tell anyone. Stupid f*ck.

Well I'm certainly glad no one tells us what make their instruments are because that's not at all relevant

I play a Warwick bass and a Sonaré flute.

But, I think the more interesting question is why people chose to play their instruments and how long they've been playing them.

The flute I've been playing for 13 years, the bass for 11. I mainly play jazz bass and picked it up after my dad taught me a few riffs, so I decided to start taking lessons and got involved in the ensembles at my school. Flute was the instrument I chose when I was a little 8-year-old because I was a kid who wanted to play drums but whose mother insisted that her child play a more "feminine" instrument. It's fun and all, but I wish I could beatbox on it or something a bit more interesting. I've come to be good at both, and I've won quite a few awards, but I haven't really been keeping up with them over the past three years due to college and lack of time, unfortunately.

I used to play instruments...

I still have 3 guitars but I never play them anymore.

1x cheap beat up acoustic guitar.

1x squier stratocaster. it's modified to only have one pickup. had it for about 11 years now.

1x gibson les paul junior (white). had it 8 years.

other than guitar i can play bass guitar, drums, piano...and that's about it.

I play drums, started in high school. I'm pretty good, not professional level good or anything, but I can hold a beat. I was in a band for a bit, but we sucked and I was broke so I left. I haven't played in a while though, mainly because I don't have the funds to buy all the gear I want/need.

I played sax all through school until I got kicked out of band in 8th grade.

Been playing guitar and banjo for years...and I still suck. Mostly acoustic guitar, but I do own (and sometimes play) electric.

There are a few harmonicas around the house too.

i try...

but I play drums, guitar, bit of ukelele (only just starting to learn that) and harmonica

i do also have a penchant for beatbox, but im not daft enough to come on here and say i play with my mouth.,.. thats just asking for trouble.
