The IV versus V debate

IV and v were both awesome in their own ways.

When you give a plain look at it, stocks aren't hard. Buy low; sell high.

However, there's soooooooooooo much more to it than that when you dwell deeper into it.

I'm getting into real life, however. Video games don't need to make sense. Stocks in IV wouldn't really fit because of the way IV was, but if the game was a little different, it'd fit pretty well.

Yeah that's what I was trying to tell the Official guy but he wasn't intelligent eno nah nah naah na na naaa.

But I did stress to you that this is a game and not real life - just like he said.

To be honest, I think V is a decent game but I don't think I've ever been more disappointed by a game.

Maybe we buy the game expecting the things we individually hoped for instead of going along for the ride that it offers. Goes for IV and V.

Even though V didn't live up to my expectations, I'm still not that disappointed. Unlike AC III, Battlefield 3, Halo 4 or other recent big titles I was hyped for and then disappointed by, V is actually a damn good game. Still a GoTY.

Agreed. I was hugely disappointed about cops n crooks not being there, and not having it for the PC from the word go. But I've still really enjoyed V on the PS3 for its own merits.

Yeah Cops n Crooks should have been re-implemented in online, that mode was probably the best mode I played in IV. Plus it would have been a good send off for IV. They also could have used ideas from the modders who added different modes for the online component of IV.

I couldnt agree more with this...And for a 1999's Concept Ideas for a GTA Multiplayer MMO it realisation is a Big Success for R* and Take2 in terms of Revenue, and we should not forget GTAO won Bafta Award for Best Multiplayer (even with all it problems) :p i am sure by the time GTAO2 is released R* would be more experience with a big mmo-type experience.

I'll try my best at the moment. I'm a little too lazy to post videos and specify what was wrong with them, and I'm too lazy to dig through the internet for quotes. So I'll just use images for now, as they were big culprits:

Take a look at this picture. This scene came from the first official gameplay trailer which was made specifically for the single player aspect of the game. In fact, the only sliver of Online footage that was teased within this trailer came after 04:32. This scene was shown right before 04:32 and the speaker wasn't saying anything about Online yet. It baffled me when this feature didn't even make it into the game, not only because it was confirmed back in May but because it was shown right f*cking there in the trailer. When I asked Rockstar why it wasn't in the final game a few days post-release, they claimed that we'd only be able to buy safehouses in Online which would come in October. They were being misleading, no matter what anybody says.

I've got another one for you lot. Just another tease, another f*cking tease. They knew we wanted houses like these on the beach and when they gave us these images, I was excited. I mean why wouldn't we be able to buy them? If they were going to flaunt them like this then they had better bring the option. But nope, nope, nope. They were just stupid props that were teased pre-release. They implied that we'd be able to buy them, but in actuality it never happened. It's just about as ludicrous as this image. Oh and look at these houses! But you can't buy them. Oh but you can look at them and explore their lushes lots.

You know what else was misleading? The pictures of that rather intriguing Dignity yacht such as this and this.

Here is another tease! A beautiful hotel with lots of detail but no interior and a car that is not even obtainable in single player! :colgate: Oh here is that sexy grand tourer again, this time with Michael in it! Michael's in Online? Oh wait... But Michael's head is seen in it again! No that doesn't mean anything of course.

LOL

Okay, so buying houses in SP was a biggie for you. Check. And apparently that vehicle. Check.

What I think happened is they divided up a bunch of existing content like so:

- this stuff goes in initial release for SP

- this stuff goes in initial release for Online

- preserved space for stuff we haven't thought of yet

- this batch of stuff to be released in DLC

- rinse and repeat

And I think this was decided to prolong the life of both SP and online modes.

Firstly, I would like to take back what I said about the construction sites in GTA IV being complete ghost towns, I went back and checked and found that some of them had workers in them, some, but not all, but regardless of that, they are still not as lively as the ones in GTA V and previous games due to the lack of construction vehicles.

@StingrayX:
Pictures of houses = trolling? :facedesk:
The picture of the property buying website in the gameplay trailer is understandable because that feature was replaced with quicksave, but pictures of houses? really?
On that logic, this is trolling because you can't live there, this is trolling because that weapon isn't in the game and this is trolling because you can't fly that jet.

Everyone to their own but you blow up at me for considering this to be trolling but then you say that a picture of a building is trolling, :facedesk:

So you mean 'unique' as in not a standard passenger road car? Lancet's guide has unique as not available from spawning in the street and limited availability... None of the vehicles you listed that IV or EFLC doesn't have would've maked it better. Maybe V has more of these bullsh*t type vehicles. That doesn't make it better though. R* adds whatever vehicle is useful in the context of the theme and setting of the game. I don't think any significant type of vehicle is missing from IV the complete edition. Name me one that would've made a significant positive impact.

Yes, unique = not a standard passenger car (or even a sports car for that matter), and V having unique vehicles does make it significantly better IMO.

Including vehicles from EFLC when talking about GTA IV's (lack of) vehicle variety is as ignorant as it comes, including EFLC in the debate is ignorant enough but thinking that vehicles from 3 separate games is one list of vehicles is a lot worse.

So anyway, GTA IV needed a Caddy, Dozer, Romero (for free roam), Prison Bus, Police Maverick (legally accessible), Air Ambulance, Tow Truck, Bicycles, etc, and yes, some of those are in EFLC, but that's the thing, they are in EFLC, not IV.

Did you honestly feel I was trolling, CantThinkofOne2013? Because those are my points and I'm standing by them, I'm not going to let your poorly thought out points debunk mine. Could you come at me sensibly and reasonably instead of hitting me up with, "You're trolling" in every single sentence as if you got so mad that you felt the need to say I was trolling out of spite?

I'm going to settle this interiors debate. For this, list, I'll only include Vanilla IV, and for both games, I'll be excluding mission-only interiors, and places that don't really classify as interiors like tunnels, open warehouses, construction sites, etc.

IV:

  • 10 Burger Shots
  • 4 Cluckin' Bells
  • Majestic Hotel Lobby + Top
  • Multiple apartment stairways (I couldn't find the exact number on google, so I estimated and it rounded up to 12, someone correct me if I'm wrong) Also a +2 enterable rooms (free roam) in "A long way to fall" and Dwayne's Apartment.
  • 5 Apartments
  • Diner in Dukes
  • Irish Pub
  • 3 Internet Cafes
  • Waste Management Plant
  • Theater
  • Crack House (In concrete jungle)
  • Libertonian
  • Kidnapping Warehouse
  • Platapus
  • Warehouse in "Russian Revolution"
  • 2 Bowling Alleys
  • 4 Clothing Stores
  • Car Dealership
  • Motorbike Dealership
  • 2 Laundromats
  • 2 Strip Clubs
  • Sprunk Factory
  • Superstar Cafe
  • Middle Park Toilets
  • The Subway
  • 3 Gun Stores
  • 2 Porn Shops
  • 2 Hospitals
  • Building you protect Pegorino in "Pegorino's Pride"
  • Big boatyard in "The Price Is Right"
  • Abandoned Casino

OVERALL: 76

V:

  • 9 Clothing stores
  • 8 Barber shops
  • 6 Tattoo parlors
  • 7 Ammu-nations
  • Trevor's Meth Lab
  • ATC Tower
  • Police Station
  • Bank in Vinewood Boulevard
  • 6 FLEECA Banks
  • 11 Convenience Stores
  • Strip Club
  • Underground area in The Jewel Store Rob
  • Subway
  • Sandy Shores Bar
  • Secret Airport Room
  • Garage
  • Room in Airport Hangar
  • 5 Safehouses
  • Prison Watchtowers
  • The Dam

OVERALL: 65

So there you have it, an unbiased list. 76 to 65. Not that much of a difference really. Sure, IV has more, but you can see V's complaint about lack of interiors isn't as bad as it was made out to be.

What was it that you expected based on what R* showed before the release?

V is the game that disappointed you the most because you over hyped it. IV pleasantly surprised me with its depth and characterization, after the SD games, that's why I would never forget Niko.

You're not looking at it the right way are you?

Push yourself back to the month of August back in 2013, before the launch of V. You're already anticipating the immersion of a new Southern California based map and you're excited to explore the coasts to receive that priceless Southern California vibe you've been craving. Now feeling that way already, imagine seeing that photograph of Chumash for the first time; that lovely, scenic beach with diverse beach houses, white sand, and gorgeous ocean views. Now imagine you're one of those people who saw 04:30 (the scene that showed the Dynasty8 website) in the first official gameplay trailer and got excited for the ability to purchase safehouses in single player. You're probably expecting at least one beach house property, either in Chumash, Del Perro, or Vespucci Beach.

Feeling that way, imagine how sh*tty it must've felt to learn that safehouse property was an Online feature only, let alone you could only buy repetitive apartments with no good views of the ocean. Do you understand what I'm getting at now?

@Above: Yeah that is what everybody says to somebody who claims they were disappointed by V. "Oh you overhyped it" no, stop jumping on the bandwagon and saying that. It's really getting repetitive and lazy.

@The Odyssey: You're missing a bunch of actual interiors (which include different maps) and a ton of open structures, buildings, and stairwells in V. I will get a list together of what's been missed on every thread at GTAF.

Here is all of the interiors I have counted so far, there is most likely still more to discover as a lot of the interiors in GTA V play absolutely no role in the story, meaning that player has to do a lot of exploration to find them.

GTA IV still does have more interiors, but (as stated by the Odyssey), GTA V doens't have this big lack of interiors that people complain about.

You're not looking at it the right way are you?

When I was looking at the pre-release screenshots, I was more focused on the large amount of varied areas to explore, but if you were looking forward to purchasing safehouses, that's fine.

The main point I was trying to make is that you blow up at me for considering this to be trolling but then you say that something as trivial as a picture of a building is trolling and on that logic this is trolling because you can't live there, this is trolling because that weapon isn't in the game and this is trolling because you can't fly that jet.

Things that make V superior to IV:

- Car and bike handling

While car handling is subjective, bike handling is the worst in the series.

I'm really not sure why they made the Bike handling so sensitive. Even when going at moderate speeds, it's very difficult to make small adjustments in a straight line. The only justification I can think of is that it makes Franklin the much better biker as his special ability makes this problem go away. It still doesn't feel realistic though that one touch of the stick and you're on the other side of the freeway when riding a sports bike.

Man, I totally agree. You just don't know how much it gets on my nerves whenever anyone say that bullsh*t. Not only is it a sweeping and highly inaccurate generalization right across the board, I find it very patronizing and demeaning too. Like we're some delusional, hyped-up gamers who don't have realistic expectations of what we're gonna get in a game like GTA. It's clear to see that most of the stuff expected in V from those that are disappointed with it were indeed very realistic, and for most part they were actually simple, straight foward demands or requests - like the best features from previous GTAs to be included as well as the new ones.

It's really annoying and it's gotten old real fast.

You clearly didn't have realistic expectations. Hence the "huge" disappointment. And thank fu*k Rockstar doesn't actually include every demand or fantasy that you guys dream up, GTA would be a travesty, worse than Saints Row.

You can be consumers, just don't be spoiled brats. And I'm not jumping on any wagon, I just figured it out based on what you say, like everyone else.

Yeah okay, whatever. I can be whatever kind of consumer I want. In my eyes, V was a bit of a letdown and I say my expectations were very realistic. That's my view, you don't agree, lets just leave it at that.

Now hop on the bandwagon like the follower and sheep you are.
