Why does R* take away special event content?

Should we keep holiday content?

  1. 1. Should we keep holiday content?

    • Yes, it only makes the game better

    • No, that is what makes the dlc special

It doesn't make sense to me. Why make something for your game that people actually like and is non exploitable, just to revoke it after a set date? I know R* is doing the whole special holiday only thing, and all the clothing wasn't that much, but the fact that they keep doing this makes no sense. All the stuff adds up too The winter dlc and valentines is almost as much as what the business dlc brought. Again it isn't that big amount of dlc but why even bother removing stuff that adds, even if just a little, to the game?

What if we learned the business update wasn't permanent, we lose all the suits, and we couldnt buy the cars or plane after a certain date?

It forces people to buy them faster possibly resulting in cash card sales it's a clever business model.

It also gives the players playing during that period a little something exclusive.

Dumbest thing so far IMO is removing the Valentine's day haircuts for women. They said all the stuff would be available once you buy it. I was expecting this not to be true for the haircuts, but I bought all of them anyway just in case it registers them as bought and they remain available. Now I can't change my haircut because I will lose it forever if I do.

I like the fact that I'm part of a minority group that bought the Roosevelt, the Gusenberg, and the outfits in time without purchasing a single cash card or glitching... Just playing missions and free mode with friends in a weekend got my friends and I the stuff.

Am I a fan of timed content? Not really, but I see where they're coming from and it gives me something to work towards in the game. And to be fair, they gave us the better portion of 2 weeks to get the V-Day stuff.

I don't see why it's a big deal. This is far from the first online game to have limited time holiday content.

I would have bought the Roose if I could get it back again later but to spend $750 000 for it to disappear completely if I sell it... Nope.

They should have made the Christmas DLC like the Valentines one, you buy the stuff you can keep it.

I like the special DLC though, it makes Roosevelt, tommy gun, and the clothes more unique

Because people running round with Santa hats and elf ears in June would just be stupid.... every game that has ever added seasonal content has kept it, well... seasonal...

That's not the case though....?

What if we learned R* were going to swap all the cars for miniature ponies??

Rockstar wants people to play their game. If you hear that you have a limited amount of time to pick up a special item, wouldn't you probably jump on to at least check out said items?

If they just added things to the game that you could get anytime, you might go on once a month or something instead of whenever they have specialty items.

Makes perfect sense.

Or wait....did you want me to say, "cash cards"?

What if we learned R* were going to swap all the cars for miniature ponies??

Well...people would definitely chrome them.

No... It wasn't noted how long they will be available for... Just like there was no need to say the standard cars are availible permanently and not "long term" or for a timed period. That's because everything is obviously permanent unless stated otherwise.

"available long-term" was used by support staff or someone in answer to all the confused kids spamming the official message board with panic.

I can, because it's the only acceptable answer. We don't know. They said long-term, and we have no way of knowing how long this long term is. You can assume it means permanently, but however likely that may be, you can't know for sure. What you percieve as fact here is not necessarily fact. You would suck at being a scientist.

Like if you have a 90% chance of X occurring, that still leaves 10% possibility. Therefore you have a chance for either outcome so in a way its still a 50/50 deal cause though it looks like one side will be the outcome you have just as much real possibility to have the other outcome. There is always a chance unless 100%.

:orly: lol... cracked me up. You'd laugh if you knew....

And the fact you are applying science rules to the difference between marketing with facts (ie Out in June = fact.. or lack of the inclusion of a time limit = fact there isn't one) vs A person just saying somthing from their mouth on a support page.. is just incredible.... In a way though, that would make you good at a few sciences lol... your obviously smart enough to know how I just ripped the piss out of you so I wont explain :monocle:

Exactly. Except for the 50/50 because 90/10 does not suddenly turn into 50/50. I get what you're saying though.

While I know what you are saying is 100% true and fact... We don't know for sure that R* are not building up to a massive rick roll, and that will be 24/7 on their servers... no more gta... just rick every time you turn on.... so that makes it 50/50 right?.... well yeah it's right.

They could have just used the word "permanently" instead of "long-term". "Long-term" implies that there will be an end to it. This is either a case of confusing use of words, or they will really eventually stop selling the items. I too think it's the former, but I'm not as sure as you are.

The thing is this, I think this is where you are getting lost.

When "R* replies on its site to questions, It isn't someone from R* north or even a game dev... its some jumped up hipster prick that probably doesn't even play the game, they usually don't have to run their answer through the marketing team to get the "official line", they just use their own wordage.. which at times leads people down the wrong path.

The only things you want to take into consideration is "official lines"... ie press statements (not what the press write... what R* gives them to print), and official posters (like the one for the business update). Anything else take with a pinch of salt.

If you look at their past packs/DLC it always states that Items have a time limit if they do.... check out the official info release for the last one (which would have been pretty much identical to the press release) http://socialclub.rockstargames.com/news/article/52202/The-Business-Update-for-GTA-Online-Is-Now-Available

vs Valentines pack http://www.rockstargames.com/newswire/article/52188/GTA-Online-Valentine-s-Day-Massacre-Special-Is-Now-Available

"es, sexy undergarments, novelty t-shirts, hats, masks and more. These items are all available to purchase in GTA Online right now until the end of February - and once acquired they're yours to keep in your inventory for good."

Hence:

No mention of time limits = No set/prearranged time limits. fact.

Court system might disagree with that. If its a statement from the official company it can be held liable. Thats why the are usually general basic statements that have been approved, they just reproduce them to anyone with similar ailment.

Like if someone works at Best Buy and tells a costumer about something that is unreleased like a upcoming sale, that associate as well as the company can be punished. They are employed by R* with inside information that they are made aware of what they can and cant say.

This forum makes for a better example of what your saying as no one here is employed by R* (at least to our knowledge). If someone here makes a claim they are sure of "Heists release date" or something R* obviously has nothing to do with even if the poster says they know someone at R*.

Got me looking

Look here they dont say they will take the items away but they did. They say the items will be available for purchase until Jan. To me that kind of gives the illusion that once you buy them you keep them.
