I'll sometimes use a mic. A lot of the time, I can hear them talking to their friend saying something like "Lets kill this guy right here" or something as I see them coming right up to me. So that makes it nice and easy for me.

Also, sometimes you can find someone cool to keep doing missions with. That is always cool, especially if you're like me and don't have much friends that play GTA.

But most of the time, I don't have a mic.

I got a headset with my Xbox but haven't used it, I do listen to others conversations though and mute the annoying ones. You can sometimes get an insight into what others are up to during freeroam, they don't realise you're listening.

If I want to communicate with someone I can type them a message, USB keyboards work fine on the Xbox.

Since my head is larger than my cat, I struggle to fit any headsets on me.

But when I get a chance, I never regret it.

I've made many friends and talked with many good people.

Sure occasionally there's some asshat whistling or some kid yelling at his crony to come to him, but I just turn chat off when that happens.

All it is... And I quote, is...

"N-word n-word n-word"

"Who's smoking weed?"

"I live in Colorado so I get the best weed"

"Anybody want a FREE Adder with nos?!?"

"Noobs"

"Glitcherererer!!!"

"Squeak squeak squeak"

Etc...

Hardly ever. It's only a matter of time before comments are made about my sexuality and player's gender and it just gets irritating after a while.

I'll only use a mic in a session with my friends or crew.

For all the first three reasons.

I don't verbally harass, but I'm never opposed to a bit of harmless voice chat trolling.

Sir Michael

Yeahh. I like listening to those "ghetto-type" people talking sh*t over the mic, just to join the conversation and act all gay and sh*t. It's so funny hearing their homophobic reactions. ;P

But in all seriousness, I use a mic when I'm with friends or a crew. If I'm with randoms and they're funny as f*ck, I'll plug the mic in.

GTA is the only game I use a mic on, just to talk GTA stuff with my friends and crew. I like to relax when I play GTAO and talk to cool people, but usually it's kid speak andSwag talk that I hear. Finding someone mature to conversate with is rare.

I like to trash talk idiot kids who shouldn't be playing GTA in the first, especially when they say Yolo.

I have a mic, but I often don't feel like talking, unless its with people I know, friends, or people I've played with before, but sometimes it's funny to listen to people get mad when I kill them because I'm not talking and apparently "To f*ckin broke to afford a mic"

I normally don't use a mic because I play late at night in the bedroom with my wife asleep.

I thought I should at least use the headphones so I could hear other randoms during FR or missions... but what I ended up hearing was quite a few squeakers, quite a few e-thugz and a lot of glitchers.

When I run into the people that glitch through walls (like the parking garage or by the hair place)... I will go into passive mode and try to disrupt them as much as possible.

Every other game when I've played online, I've always been mic'd up and had great times (I'm mostly a racer, so maybe it brings a different breed).

Not much of a FPS player on the consoles with the exception of this game, if you want to call it a FPS (third person shooter?).

no vote for me. i have a mic, but it works when it wants to so i can never depend on it. i always have it plugged in though so i can hear what's going on in the open chat. usually just hear prolific amounts of cursing, racism and such spewing from kids and adults alike, mostly hear it from kids though. quite sad IMO, but if there's someone i don't want to hear i just mute them.

sometimes it pays though, like when 3 crew guys in a buzzard were dogging me for 20mins one night asking if anyone had a mic because they were trying to kick me from the session for going passive on them when they were wanting to triple team me. had me laughing about it the rest of the night.

I went with Don't Use (I have a Mic) and had to choose "Not Use - Don't want to get harrased/witness others get harassed" because you didn't give me the option to choose "Can't be arsed".

mine is ussually on but muted. i unmute if i need to say something. im not very chatty while i play. i noticed people who have open chat tend to give up a ton of information leaving them with a huge disadvantage.

i ussually chat w crew members only also. but if im solo ill put it to everyone. if there is a bunch of annoying noise i will change the settings or mute the user.

Hmm, what I would pick isn't on the list. I use my mic to listen in on people who are ganging up on people or just trying to kill people in general. I use what they're saying to plan what I can do to kill them with the least amount of risk. Also if somebody is talking sh*t, I'll go after them, kill them, then unmute my mic and repeat exactly what they said to piss them off. :)

Fail_At_GTA... I think you actually succeed at GTA.

i think it would be cool if only people within a certain distance could hear you talking and if you wanted to talk to your friend whos far away you had to ring him on the ingame phone, just an idea that would make online more fun, so you could plot against another friend over the ingame phone then kill him

Should have put "Sometimes" on the "Do you use a mic" poll.. otherwise it really changes all my choices.

Anyway I only use it when I'm playing with my friends, why? Because it's funny.. we usually are great at missions and GTA isn't really a game where you have to have coordination and crap when you can just take a look at the minimap to help you out.

gta IV was much more vocal. No one ever talks in my lobbies i'm in.

Did mics again tonight... pretty much thinking I don't even want to listen anymore, let alone participate... really made some of my "1 on 1s" (not the actual ones, just time where I and some one else went at it) take on a much less friendly tone. And they were so f*cking loud... people just talk to be heard.

Biohazard Abyss

Too socially awkward for conversation that's not in-person, and prefer not to hear squeakers, loud music, wangstas, etc.

Always have chat set on crew+friends only so I only hear people worth hearing.

EarlyLifeFailure

I use my normal DJ headphones in the headphone socket of my TV as I like to listen to the in-game sounds (know which way that buzzard is coming from) and then quickly plug the mic in if I have something to say to crew mates and friends...

Question is. Is there any headsets where you can listen to in-game sounds as well as chatting / listening to friends ?

could anyone name some for me ?

I'll usually use one when playing with RL friends.

Anytime I'm on my own however, never again.

Used it a couple of times and it's safe to say: males are assholes.
