Mics in Online - Yea/Nay

I used a mic for the first time in GTA:O last night (awaiting applause... moving on) and it was hell. While I met some nice players at the beginning, by the end I just turned it off as I felt my ears had suffered enough abuse.

 

What has everyone's experiences been with Mics? Is there a difference in the PS3/Xbox communities?

Hell nay.. Most of the time you can't even understand what they're saying, it's usually a bunch of kids on there who shouldn't be playing the game in the first place, and let's be honest.. Most of the people online are retards, so how would you expect a CONVERSATION would go. Just talk on Skype if you really want to, or send messages I guess

Nay. I just turn Voice Chat off; so much better than way. Like I want to hear some little kid moaning or some idiot singing.

I do try to use on PS3 generally speaking i dont find many other players using them, if they are not ususally properly.

 

This said. When you find a group of players who are effectivly using their mics for comms it does bring the interation and gameplay experience up and makes for more enjoyable gameplay.

I would like it if there were more players who use them properly, on PS3 anyway

Sometimes it can be good, i've met some friends just by having open mic but generally it is a troll fest. Some french troll was on earlier abusing everyone and baiting people to come attack him while he was using the parking lot glitch....sad.

Only when I'm playing with friends, but I mostly use skype. I bought the small in-ear official playstation headset, but it's terrible. Volume is way too low, both ingoing and outgoing. Earbuds with built-in mic plugged into a phone with skype works infinitely better.

I mute a lot of kinect mics/kids/trolls, but every now and then will land in a fun lobby with randoms.

if im in public session i rarely talk on mic.... as much as im happy to communicate in text, i dont speak as much as a type (i type for a living, in a communicative capacity)...

 

but i did get bought a mic shortly after i started playing GTA:O which i generally only use when im in session with crew members, were all pretty tight knit so chatting about what ham a crew mate was having for thanksgiving was a welcome conversation.... talking to some 12 year old in a public freeroam about his swag value.... no so appealing...

 

my public mic use is usually restricted to "can you turn catchup off..." or "do we have to run supers again, cant we try another class" when im waiting for a random race lobby to launch...other than that i stay on mute...

 

i do also find mics are good when meeting new crew members for the first time... i got dropped in a random public lobby the other week that had 1 of my crew members id never met in it.. i sauntered over to him and greeted with my usual salute, he responded and then we both turned out to have mics, was nice to cruise with him for 45 mins and chat a bit about random sh*t, stuf we get upto in LS and "omg i cant beleive i just fell of that damn bridge again, lets hope its 7th time lucky" afte that i introduced him to a few other regualr members, them i had to leave so left them all together, he sent me a FR and thanked me for the little intro session..... i guess thats why were a pretty close knit group, cos we actually care about having a family feel to our crew and prefer quality over quantity

If I jump into a public lobby my mic will be muted until I hear the typical ego driven fool who gets on the mic stating hell kill everyone. Then i go jump in a jet and bully him and do some trolling on the mic.

 

If there are kids on the mic I usually go and troll them just for the purpose that they shouldn't even be on this game & they're always happy at first like they're playing hello kitty online, then become super emotional when spawn killed.

 

Edit: And laugh at people who avoid spawn kills in passive mode by killing them with a firetruck over and over.

I was excited to talk to people, but this one dude just kept saying "I'm Obama" for an hour, while someone else pretended to be "slow" and just yammered on and on (I knew he was faking because he would drop in and out of the voice) plus a child yelling "fa**ot" over and over. While I met some cool people and made 2 "friends", I definitely grew to dislike many more than 2 other people, so it seemed like a net loss. I will think about using it tonight, but it will definitely be something I have to consider...

I have a mic but I have no interest in talking to strangers while I play the game, as I have tried to talk to strangers in the past (in other games) and the majority of the time they either dont respond or just start harrasing you.

So because the K/D is 20.47 Im a camper of tank griefer?

 

My other profiles are 16K/D, 6 & 7 K/D from more well rounded gameplay, this account was just used for one purpose.

Edit: not sure why it says 0 & 32, I think its because on x420raptor i have two characters, one has 600+kills and 32 deaths, the other has 0 kills 0 deaths.

I only use my mic when theres a group of fun people with a sense of community. Normally car meets etc. like I used to in forza 4. Too bad not a lot of players play that now tho. I don't want to buy an Xbox one.. I guess I'm stuck with GTA atm. It's a shame that most encounters end in a bloodbath just cause we have guns. So much power but so little restraint in today's youth...

I'm always on the mic.

Has its positives and negatives, but I'm a chatty guy.

 

There are a lot of annoyances out there, but occasionally you'll get something that's worth listening to like other players racially abusing me as I kill them for the 7th or 8 th time. (That's when you know you're winning)

3 nights ago there's was a kid MC'ing over the chat channel and he was excellent! That was a 1st for me

I've got one but have yet to speak to anyone decent. I just use it for winding-up stupid people - how do I know they are stupid? They get wound-up.

 

Whilst on the subject of mic's I said to some random American sounding guy who was annoying sounding and whiney that I don't have to listen to him as he is American. Turned out he was Canadian (as if I really care) and he was reporting me for voice griefing. Suffice to say I guffawed at him and he went quiet. If all mic's users are such delicate flowers I be as well give up!

I use the mic sometimes but it's usually set to crew + friends when i do. I only set it to everyone when some asshole shoots at me for no reason. This way i can hear his cries of frustration as i put him in his place.

Hmm, what I would pick isn't on the list. I use my mic to listen in on people who are ganging up on people or just trying to kill people in general. I use what they're saying to plan what I can do to kill them with the least amount of risk. Also if somebody is talking sh*t, I'll go after them, kill them, then unmute my mic and repeat exactly what they said to piss them off.
