I'm 28 - thought I'd be one of the older ones on here, but clearly not.

I'm not entirely convinced that some people are as old as they say they are though... Surely nobody over the age of 16 actually uses "lol"?

OMG TXT SPK FTW!

Clearly this is directed to me because I said "lol"

What's the deal, you're gonna bitch about what people say?

Yeah, you and about a dozen other people, so not really. In fact, you said you're 18, so it's less likely to be directed at you.

In fact, it's not really "directed" at anyone. I'm not here for a fight, just amazed that people over 30 use lol. I thought it was for the young people.

Yeah, so 28 going on 78 :D

Makes us feel the age we think we are by using the hip new lingo that the jive turkey kids use

Hah, that made me lol.

(You're right, I feel younger already!)

P.S. Your comment reminds me of that scene in the movie Airplane...

18 and I love it, being old scares me cos there's so much responsibility you have to keep up with :panic:

what responsibility? age doesnt come with that, only kids and leaderjobs do.

Age doesnt come with responsibilty?

Im guessing your single and live with your parents!

Though the average age of player's in GTA Online would make a 13 yr old feel old.

32, soon 33. Played all gta games. C64 was my first 'gaming' computer thanks to having older bros and sisters. Used to love 'Wonderboy' on the c64. Now I watch my son doing mine craft at the same age I was then. Circle of life man. Got a Snes for passing my 11+ exam and the rest is history. Completing Mario at 11 yrs old was like the biggest epic moment ever (at the time). Op, I feel you bro.

21, will be 22 in July.

GTA:O makes me feel old, and so do my brother and sister. Even though I'm clearly not that old.

34 and from a generation time when video games were harder.

I dunno maybe with age ivenjust become so danb good at them but over the last few years ive found comlleting games on hardest dificulty settings to be somewhat easy.

Times have changed though in a generation where regenerative health is the norm and normal modes are so toned down thay games dont even have easy modes anynore.

5 has been by far the easiest gta to complete and personally the least rewarding because of it

Terrible Party

One of the older ones here at 45. Gamer for life. Started on this stuff...

pong.jpeg

39 here. Pong was my first at home console in 1981. The thing was about the size of a humidifier, and definitely as loud. My dad brought it home, used, won in a card game against one of his coalmine coworkers. True story.

I've been hooked on games ever since then, and have at one time or another owned pretty much every popular console system readily available

Thanks to dad and his fellow degenerates.

This.

I remember the days when you had maybe 3 or 5 lives and once you'd used them all that was it - you'd have to start from the very beginning again.

Now you can usually save the game as many times as you like and die an infinite number of times and just start back at the last checkpoint or game save.

I'm not complaining though - I never used to complete games as a kid, so I now enjoy being able to get through the whole story. That was probably partly due to difficulty and partly due to not being able to save the game - so if you wanted to complete something you had to do it in a single sitting!

First game I remember completing was Metal Gear Solid on PS1.

I almost never use LOL...and when I do I die a little inside.
Exactly, eugh!

Gamer speak ia more along the lines of one claiming to be 1337 or calling people

n00bs. I don't think "lol" can be classified as gamer speak.

I know right...ROFLMAO.

I would be amazed if someone over the age of 30, who spends time on the internet, most likely a gamer and probably have kids didn't have the word "lol" in their vocabulary.

Spend enough time with someone or a group of people and you will pick up on whatever words/language they use among many other things.

Now I'm not saying that you will use everything you pick up this way but I am saying that you have no control of if you do or what you do pick up because this process is handled involuntary by the brain.

24. i grew up playing Sonic, Echo the Dolphin and Street Fighter, etc. on the MegaDrive and GTA on PC, then got into tomb raider, spyro, excalibur and games like devil dice (dont ask) on PS1, progressed on to more tomb raiders and NFS games on PS2, which is around the time i rediscovered GTA series despite SA being the only one i actually liked enough to own, pokemon on Gameboy started taking up a lot of my time, then stayed with the PS2 for quite a while, even after PS3 was released, with games like Matt Hoffman Pro BMX, Red Faction 2, more tomb raiders, Gun, more NFS, Fifas, Battlefield, Far Cry, Conflict, etc. Then eventually got bored, got myself a PS3 and have went with games like Uncharted trilogy, Assassin's creed series, more Tomb Raider, GT, RDR, , more Battlefield, more NFS, more FIFAs, more Far Cry, LA Noire, TLOU, then since GTAV came out that's been pretty much the only game ive played.

despite this not being an exhausted list of every game ive ever played/owned, not quite sure why i just went through pretty much my entire gaming history, thanks for reading if you, for some ridiculous reason, actually read all this.

TL;DR: played a lot of games.

If you are in your teens now thinking that you probably won't be gaming when you are in your 30's and upwards chances are you're in for a surprise.

As you get older you notice, among other things, that your energy levels are not what they used to be and so video games are now more than ever a valid option to you.

In fact, when you reach your 60's and 70's, gaming will probably be one of only a few really good options around.

Oh, I'm not surprised that people over 30 are aware of the word lol, I'm just amazed that they use it. My niece and nephew use loads of text speak that I'd never be caught dead using.

That said, David Cameron uses lol, so I guess it's more prevalent than I thought. (Albeit that he thought it meant lots of love!)

And yes, Airplane is an awesome movie. :D
