I don't recall Rockstar ever killing the main protagonist. Surely he's alive, wouldn't be surprised to see him popup in paid DLC some day.

Lester implies he "went quiet" so I guess it's left up to the interpretation of the fans.

He probably just 'went quiet' because he was over living the life of criminal, remember, at the end of the GTA IV story, he said that we wanted to stop being a criminal.

They did with Vic Vance, except we knew that before the game he was in was released.

OT: Niko's LifeInvader page and the fact that Roman's taxi company is still open suggests that the Bellics are doing okay, but it's not definite, given that Packie thinks Niko's probably dead.

Also, there's that ticket to San Andreas Niko apparently bought...

HOW'S ANNIE?

Victor Vance and Johnny Klebitz beg to differ.

On topic he might be dead, might be on the run or he might have settled down. We don't know. And to be honest I think it's best left unanswered, I wouldn't want to see Rockstar bring back Niko and risk ruining him, it would be another Johnny K situation.

ViceCityStalker

He`s in a different multiverse of the same Hd universe on another texture mapping planet, actually rockstar needs to stop this different era sh*t and just make it all one dysfunctional timeline just like RL.

They did that unintentionally when they added Lazlow and Fernando to the HD games.

I don't think Niko's dead, I think he just cut any criminal-related contact (That may be why Packie isn't sure if he's dead or not) and decided to lay low and live a normal life

He's retired, relaxing and enjoying his money, not having to do petty crimes.

Liberty City is a bit of a sh*t hole though compared to the bright and beautiful Los Santos. I get the feeling he might move to Los Santos, or visit for a holiday. It definitely is a better place to retire than the grey cold Liberty City.

He's probably laying low.

Johnny's dead though so there is a chance he could be dead too

Fair point. That said I'd consider them 'minor' protagonists since they popped up as playable characters only in DLC.

Detective Phelps

He's probably alive and well. He left the criminal life behind.

I don't think he's dead, they would have stated explicitly if they had killed him off. TBH, I think he might show up as a cameo in one of the story dlc's when they eventually come out.

Nah, he moved to North Yankton.

during the paleto heist mission if you choose packie to help he talks about the four leaf clover heist and says niko's probably dead

Niko Valentine

I believe he's quit the criminal activity after the ending you choose in GTA IV.

Niko realised all of the things he was doing was only leading him to one end of the road.

Likelyhood is, he's settled down in Liberty City to prevent more guilt taking over him and just to have a regular life.

They left it unanswered for a reason. Make what you want of it.

all the universe crap asside, i think he's just living his life trying to make some money, like CJ though i think it's just best left to the players imagination.

I see the life invader page as more of an easter egg than a solid fact that he is alive though.

He is alive. He cut all his ties after the end of GTA IV. I dont see someone like Niko Bellic dead. Niko is a strong character, he grew up in Serbien, and lived a hard life. Why would he even be killed? Like I said, there is no one out there that really has some agenda against Niko. Wich ever ***Spoilers from GT IV Ending** option you used in the end of the game, he left the criminal life.

Why is the era thing so hard for people to understand....

Right? People can understand reboots when it comes to movies like Batman and Robocop, but with Grand Theft Auto they can't figure it out.

Anyways, it all really depends on what you want to believe. The Deal Ending made it seem very obvious that Niko was going to go straight and try his hardest to help Mallorie raise Romans child well. The Revenge Storyline is a little more murky. It seems obvious that he wants to give up the criminal lifestyle, but he seems to have given up on having a normal life by the end of it.

That's just my take on it, at least.

The fact that he's mentioned by Lester and Packie suggests he's in the same world. And, of course, Packie is in the same world, as Niko and appears in V, so... yeah, same world.

I don't think he's dead, I think he's just laying low - 'going quiet' doesn't necessarily mean dead, it could, and I believe it's the case here, mean he retired. He had much cheddar after IV played out, so why bother making more? He never struck me as the kind of greedy dick Michael becomes.

Niko is not dead.

He was a child soldier who who was betrayed by his friend and watched his other childhood friends die in a dirty pit. He moved to Liberty to live a better life but instead had to turn back to crime and in the end have his cousin or the love of his life die in front of him for his mistakes. He survived all of it. Rockstar shouldn't let his story end with him dying after everything he went through. I like to think he left the criminal life and is living in peace

U surely didn't pay attention to the opening of Vice City, Trevor's introduction mission or the choices Franklin has in the end, haha!!

Just joking. :) I know u did. Everybody makes minor mistakes sometimes.

Ya, just a little mistake, that you made. Rockstar never killed each game's main character (Claude, Tommy, CJ, Niko, or Mike/Trevor/Frank).

The only people they have killed are, as you mentioned, DLC protagonists - Vic for Vice City Stories and Johnny for The Lost & Dammed.

We don't know. "He went quiet" could mean he's dead, or just not in the business anymore. Either Bellic Lifeinvader page could be being maintained posthumously, as could the cab business (e.g. by Mallorie).

My hunch is though he's still alive. Niko almost seemed like he wanted to die at times, but wasn't able to, permanently stuck in his own personal hell.
