The Future of GTA Online...

I haven't really seen a topic regarding the future of GTAO, and I searched the forum to see if such a topic already exist. I don't think it does exist. So let me get this underway. What kind of future do you think exists for GTA Online? Do you think GTAO even has future? I ask this because I when I think of GTAO, I think of World of Warcraft. It has grown in a massive MMORPG, and I think GTAO has the potential to become something like that. It can evolve into this epic MMORPG that's ever changing, and constantly being filled with new content that players enjoy. This my first shot at creating an actual discussion topic. So, what kind of future do you see for GTAO?

The game will keep the same way it's doing now, just with some new content, new glitchs, fixed glitchs, jerks as always, etc.

Wouldn't class GTAO as a MMORPG to be honest... R* Need to sort the game out or there won't be a future

Imma have to agree with that. Would be nice Rockstar fixed the simple stuff; emblem problems, money glitches, yadda yadda yadda.

The future of GTAO doesn't look bright if it keeps up with the way things have been for 6 or 7 months. Rockstar has failed at what it takes to sustain a large playerbase for years to come. They have added zero new gameplay content since the launch of this game. Please don't use deathmatches and races as content, because we can make those in the content creator.

every online game out there that has lasted for years with a massive player base KNOWS what it takes. It takes gameplay content...constantly. All of these new cars and guns WILL NOT keep players around. What do those things matter when players get bored of doing the same missions over and over for 6 months?? If they continue to neglect the gameplay content in this game, most of us will be gone in the next few months. It's already very easy to see that this game has died off quite a bit. Lots of half full and empty lobbies.

This game needs heists, the co-op mission creator, and lots of new gameplay content in the open world The open world was supposed to be a place that was dynamic and brought players together in "dynamic events" (ala Defiance Arkfalls), but it has been nowhere near that. This game will die off if Rockstar doesn't get their heads out of their asses

Tons of online games out there have shown the blueprint on how to make an online game last, but Rockstar hasn't paid attention. These new cars and guns are kinda cool, but in the grand scheme of things, they are pointless..and show lazyness on Rockstars part. WE NEED NEW GAMEPLAY CONTENT!

if GTAO makes it to the new gen, then it may have a chance. it will most likely take a hit when RDR2 comes out, & will be a wasteland by the time the next GTA comes out.

If they continue adding content and maps and pushes itself to next gen consoles (or dare I say...PC) then it might.

For now I'd say it's got until R*'s next GTA

Adding new cars, clothes and weapons every few months gets very boring very fast. One of the most appealing things about playing a game is trying to level up to access something new. Maybe need some new areas of the map that can be explored at a certain level or something like that.

Yep, I think we all have had enough of the holiday themed deatmatches. It wouldn't kill rockstar to makes more missions, and by missions I mean missions that have some structure to them, like the story missions from GTA games. Have us put the other skill bars(besides shooting) to work.

I think the creator is the future of GTAO. If they release the mission creator, crews can build their own missions for underlings to run. At that point, R* won't have to do much beside play test and verify UGC of value (I know they've done a crap job so far with DM and races, but I can dream). That is when the GTAO experience will be new and different.

If they could add in more types of dynamic events (HPV, armored truck, crates), smuggling/sale of drugs and weapons, and then random ped events (purse snatchers, hitchhikers, etc) the world would feel much more alive. I know the generation of hardware is limiting, but if they want the game to appeal to the masses longterm they will be forced to add more.

Speaking of adding more, customization comes to mind. People cry for customizable apartments. People want more/better mods for cars. Reboot character creation to something useful and let us actually build the look we want rather than just a few canned mugs. Hell, open a plastic surgeon's office who can custom build your face - God knows LA has a few of those. Make it expensive and hawk those Shark Cards for all I care. Options is the name of this game's longevity.

Edit: Add in the old professions while we're at it - vigilante, taxi, firefighter, paramedic, trucker, and the rest. Bring in new mini games like pool. Casino anyone?

Obviously the future for GTA O is very bright but I'm just waiting for it to go next gen so that it may reach its full potential

I don't remember where I read it but some article had someone arguing fact they think that GTA:O on current-gen is basically a great big Beta test that will be used to iron out kinks, and when most if not all of content that is going to be added has been added, they're going to be releasing onto next gen without any headaches. Considering the way things have gone since launch I think it seems feasable, use the current installed market to test and see where things go wrong and then when the new consoles have been picked off shelves, release a GTA: V Enhanced Edition for them, I'll try find the article so people can see what they make of it.

In short I think we're been used as beta testers but things seemed to be going well (at least in my opinion)
, the latest additions I thought were better then the beach bum pack but time will tell :3

The player base will continually shrink until it reaches a small but loyal group that will play years into the future like most other popular games ie GTA IV, Uncharted 2, etc. There simply isn't enough content, replayability, or fun factor there to push GTA:O to the next level where it takes on a life of it's own, instead of just being the online mode of GTA V.

I'm inclined to agree with this.

It will continue to be a big deathmatch. Because of that, and the lack of quality content, no serious players will stay with the game. All it will be is a playground for kids and gangsta wannabes.

It's why I routinely go to invite only sessions and just do missions.

People (morons) are too excited about getting their K/D ratio up just to have fun. Like a full on just fistfight at Maze Bank. Everyone just wants to be a dickhead.

Very bright, Can't wait for the next update and dlc. There is so much to do already so I can't wait for whatever they have in store for us in the near and distant future.

How did Rockstar fail, please explain? They released FREE dlc with various weapons and cars, including hot fixes to fix some major glitches/exploits. Yet on the other end of the spectrum you have people finding new exploits and glitches, which in turn ADDS to the list of fixes Rockstar needs to do. The future of GTAO is bright yet rocky road..

This my first shot at creating an actual discussion topic. So, what kind of future do you see for GTAO?

Well, are we discussing what WE think it will be, or what R* wants it to be?

R* has been quite vocal about where they want the title to go....

For starters, take this post about GTA:O shortly before launch:

We could, but we want it to be known as a different entity, a separate thing, and it'll grow on its own. It'll be GTA Online; it's not part of GTA V. Obviously it's set in the GTA V engine, but it's going to grow and evolve into its own thing. source

For starters, R* envisions GTA:O as being something that will eventually be considered a separate product from V, rather than just the multiplayer portion of V....

A dream of ours is, when you finish the game, you press a button, and it's made a film of your game. Maybe one day. It depends on lots of things. (previous source)

They also plan to eventually add the ability to save your gameplay experience...

Well, one thing we've toyed with - and we've talked about this before, so it isn't a spoiler - is (the ambition) to grow this world until it's the world. We're just going to add on new things to it, new places all the time. We've set this up so there are no limitations. The only limitation is the size of the disc and how much memory we've got. We could, if we wanted, simulate the entire world, different countries, whatever. Whether we do that or not... But we've got a bunch of old stuff that we're toying with using. (previous source)

They also plan to eventually add more significant content, new locations, etc. and before anyone starts screaming "but muh heists"..."clothes ain't content" or similar, if you read the quoted source, they actually say that the early content would be little stuff like clothes and cars until they get the bugs worked out.. then they would begin releasing the more significant content...

Every part of Grand Theft Auto Online has been designed with expansion in mind. A dream of ours is to create an entire Grand Theft Auto world that consists of everything we've done or are going to do then let the player freely move between them. The launch of Grand Theft Auto Online is a beginning for us; it gets us a little closer to being able to make that happen. source

apparently, they envision GTA:O as being a very large scale environment, capable of supporting (and swapping between) multiple full scale maps...

Basically, yes... R* plans on this being the GTA equivalent of an MMORPG, a separate title from GTA V that will outlive V by years...

Pretty much this, the only thing that will sustain GTAO for the future is the addition of more gamplay content, there's simply not much to do now that any fun. Most fun is had just f*cking around in free roam and you can't do that without any money so you're forced to grind that same missions over and over. They need to add more money making oppurtunity in free roam that are fun and some more high paying missions so people aren't constanstly grinding the same two over and over. And of course heists but 'm done talking about them.

IMO Half Life 3 will be released before we get heists.

:D

at least its realistic to say that halflife 3 will be announced before heists will be released

the future of GTA:O is to be continued on the next gen platforms... probably something big next fall, a PS4,XB1, PC release with an overhauled nextgen GTA:O..

with san fierro and las venturas and a mexican border included to the original map

with 64 players per sessions and real freeroam business to do.

and realistic steak
