THEORY: is DLC why there is no PC version? ..yet?

Recommended Posts

So, it makes sense in every way to release GTA V to PC. More copies sold, profit, gets GTA V back in the news. So why haven't Rockstar done it?

What If the reason they haven't released it yet was because of DLC. As we know, people are already finding DLC files in the game and it's not even on PC yet, like the recent car leak - The Zenterno, Huntley etc. There are heaps of files in the game that have been found that could be DLC or just be beta content. So maybe if it was released on PC, people would just unlock all this content and even get DLC vehicles into their game before its officially released.

Another example is the content creator. The base files were actually already in the game months before it was released.. possibly even on the base GTA V disc on its release. After all, the GTA V disc to install was 8GB, which is quite a bit. Who knows what additonal content is on the disc already- all it needs is an offical Rockstar patch to function. Unless PC modders get their hands on it.

I think Rockstar have thought of this. Maybe their plan is to release all the DLC and even paid DLC, then release a PC version, bring the game back to life again.

So what are your thoughts. I'm no tech expert but I think this could be a strong possibility. People have glitched the full on Mission Creator now and a while ago you could own paid Collector Editon vehicles just through glitching.

Thoughts /opions would be great :)

I doubt it.

All this DLC looks like game content cut before release just to put out as DLC later.

And you legitimately think the team who is set to work on suits and a car can make the PC version? They focus they're whole PC dev team on a couple of crappy clothes/cars?

God, why does everyone think R* is short on resources?

The credits for GTA V WERE 45 MINUTES LONG!

The have enough people to work on it, R* is NOT short on resources, they can do 2/3 things at once.

I'm guessing it will be similar to L.A. Noire in the way that they released the Complete Edition or whatever with both sets of DLC included. I'm hoping there is an announcement soon though as I really want the PC version. Hopefully they will not have to reduce everything from SP to MP like lighting and traffic because of not having last gen hardware.

I don't blame them for not doing the PC. I remember Gta 3 SA adding the patch to get the full sex scene.

This is one reason. The other is that Rockstar doesn't like modders. They allow mods, but they don't like them. Also, GTAIV was pirated heavily on the PC...tends to leave a bad taste in one's mouth. Last but not least...GTA Online is biggest reason why there will be no PC version of GTA V. It's using practically all of R* North's resources maintaining this beast for them to warrant having to go back in, upscale models and do all the rest of that stuff that must be done to port a game to PC, and Rockstar doesn't hand off projects to other houses.

On another note: Tickles me pink anytime I see someone "matter of fact" stating GTAV is coming to PC because they saw it being said on an IGN video because some European retailer puts up a half-assed thumbnail of it on their site with a proposed price tag or because some who makes graphics cards says it will be released. Until it's announced by Rockstar North, it's not happening.

And this means what exactly? Your point is...? It took those 45 minutes worth of people 5 years to make GTAV, so sure, they can just whip a new, graphically enhanced version of the same game, pixel for pixel, in just the time it's taken between the launch of GTAV to now, right?

Get real.

"Stupid People" are the reason there is no PC version.

As long as there are stupid little turd-birds hacking, modding, and exploiting/glitching, you can forget about a PC version. That's my guess. Easier to do those things on PC.

So go ahead and thank all those feckless little bastards if you're sore about not getting this game on PC.

This.

Admin on the PS3/360 versions clearly takes a lot of effort (lackluster glitch cleanup, unbanned users, etc) but that will pale in comparison to trying to run GTA:O for PC users.

More likely than not, the reason PC version is in the air is because of piracy. I'm not saying game piracy is EVERYWHERE on PC and nowhere on consoles, because that's simply not true. However, the gaming companies view minor differences as major and simply "don't trust" the PC market.

Is it a smart ploy for them? sh*t no, they lost out on a huge market. But that's the reason devs tend to make.

They haven't done it because it wouldn't maximize profit for them. All you have to do is use your brain and you'll realize why they haven't done it yet

It means they can afford more than 5 people to work!

YOU ALL ACT LIKE THEY HAVE GUYS WHO EITHER WORK ON A SHIRT OR ANOTHER WHOLE f*ckING GAME!

As I said in a previous post, R*North doesn't hand off work to the other R* dev houses. A GTAV PC port would be done by R*North themselves. It's pretty safe to say that the majority of programmers, designers and assorted others who've made this game are probably on hiatus. Not everyone who's worked on this game are still working on this game, and I don't work for R*, but it's safe to say that if they are working on anything post GTAV/GTAO that it's not a PC port of the same game.

I think they haven't released it yet because of gtaOnline. If the console has so many cheaters and what not, just think how bad the PC will be. gtaIV was unplayable online half the time due to people using modded cars or other odds and end things that will freeze your game. Plus I think they are also taking there time to make a PC version instead of releasing the block of cheese they did with IV. It took me a year to figure out the right settings to even get it running at an average of 45fps with good graphical settings.

It`s not using anything past the matchmaking server and whatever servers they host the saves on. The game has peer 2 peer technology, which means the console is acting as the server, not Rockstar.
