why are the airport gates locked?

Whenever i want to go in i call up one of my planes and the gates open up for me..

 

Comes in hand especially in missions

As you go toward the airport, from the town, on ground level, go right. The fence is really easy to break. You can identify the location by the green vegetation that`s hanging from the above highway.

It's there for a sense of realism, you can't go running around real runways. Like AiraCobra said, they open if you've ordered an aircraft that spawns there. Otherwise you've got no business in there civilian.

Remember in GTA4 when you could just drive straight into the airport without any gates, and then get 4 stars. LoL. Now it's the opposite.

Titan of a Job = Ramp, the hangar is right in front of it, dont know how you beat people crashing the fence

 

Los Santos Connection = Gate / Fence, Hangar on that side.

I just take a left down that alley and break through the fences or break through the fences on the other side. I hate the ramp too.

It's easy to get through the gates. All you need to do is drive up to the entrance alongside the ramp, drive to the gate on the right side. Then, walk through the little gap at the side and jump into the middle of the gate. Should bounce right open.

I've actually gotten a 2 star wanted level once jumping into the airport. I figured someone must have spotted me jumping in from the road or something...

 

Nowadays though I just call in my Vestra before heading into the airport, I like the VIP service.

You'd think the amount of money they'd have to pay to continually repair their fences after player after player smashes through it would encourage them to open the damn gate or get a better fence. At least it'll save money.
