I had no idea about this...

but I've read somewhere in the online section that setting down the brightness in GTA V gives a better image

that was true

^^^ go into more detail gnad, it really helps. Do contrast, sharpness (unless you use the pc res). Colour is important to to achieve natural greys and blacks along with red, green and blue. It gives better depth of shading too.

I haven't even watched TV since I got the internet installed. If anything, I watch repeats of Law & Order: SVU whenever the internet goes out.

@universetwisters: cool stuff, I hate TV and the sole purpose of a 42" hd was for gaming, hence all my calibration talk :)

I can't recommend it enough.

I used to half ass it until I got an xbox one and I hit their little "Calibrate HDTV" option not knowing I was going to be in for a sh*t ton of minutes of actually having to think and do stuff.

Best pissed off minutes I ever spent. World of f*cking difference. Not kidding.

just turn the in-game brightness option down to 1/3. you get a lot better image.

I usually just plug 'n play and If a game has it i'll mess with in-game calibration, but more often than not I just plug 'n play.

Yes, I have always calibrated and broken in new TV's. I find 120hz TV's to have the best picture, maybe it's just my eyes. But I did own a 240hz 3d sharp and I hated it.... $1500 down the drain no matter which way I calibrated it, unless it was on the 120hz PC input.. then it just looked to dull all around. f*ck Sharp.

Misbegotten cad

I recalibrate my telly separately for each game and movie. And I also note down the perfect settings for each game, so I can recalibrate the telly fast when I replay those games.

Old games are a big chore to calibrate because they were made for the old vacuum tube tellies, and so look rather horrid on LED. same goes for VHS movies and older DVDs...

Finally got my TV calibrated.

It's lying on exact 180 degree now, all games play straight.

Good thing I found this old waterscale.

My old TV had five different editable calibration settings I could switch between. That really came in handy since, as mentioned above, there really isn't a one-size-fits all option.

I usually have the brightness up purposely high on games. It doesn't look as good but I don't want things to not be visible.

My telly is a few years old but it works well on 'game mode' and 'movie mode' and 'pc mode'

I was quite impressed when I bought it, having upgraded from a old style tiny telly.
