Man all this talk about how Rockstar are taking time with the PC version MUST be them milking the console version, hah. I guess VCS PC Mod which we're working on is also milking the console version then as we'd rather port it and fix Rockstar's mistakes which will take longer than doing a sh*tty rush port job!

Nice attempt. Here's whats wrong with it:

One of these is an official company with the source code to their games and has a paid staff of highly experienced programmers who work a 9-5, and in Rockstar's case are notoriously overworked and underpaid.

The other is a team of users who do not have source code, who are doing it as a hobby and not getting paid nor do they have the time to work on it as the official developers do.

To even attempt to use that as a way of suggesting that the consistent delay of a GTA game to pc is in some way shape or form evidence that they are doing it for the sole purpose of making a quality port and that it has nothing to do with financial gain... is ignorance at its finest.

It is theirs, and theirs alone, decision to hold their games on the consoles for as long as they see fit to satisfy financial marks.

If the delay in release on pc was in some way indicative of port quality then explain the sh*t show that 3, vice city, san andreas and 4 all are when they all had massive delays in getting to pc.

If no announcement in March or April, then it will come in June (maybe even at E3 but I doubt it) and the game will release on Fall 2014.

If they announce it in March or April then it will probably be released in June.

Who knows, maybe we don't even get a PC version.
After this long a delay, unfortunately, everything is possible.

Well at least we agree on that, it's a money thing, not a "f*ck PC GAMERS LOLLOL" thing. Guess what happens soon? Fiscal Year Change. April onwards will be a new Profit Year for Take2, GTAV had this year held down as a major earner.

I've finally decided to register and clear up some misconceptions and whatnot about the PC port.

Please don't bother replying, as this will be my only post. You can still quote it, but I won't reply because I'm gonna get in a lot of trouble just for this one post.

-The PC version has been in development since 2010 after being ported from the first alpha build for the Xbox 360 (hence why I'm referring to it as a port), even though the buildlog only registers PC-related issues from 2012 and later: https://googledrive.com/host/0B-JdId1SslCJNEIweDFobGl2MzA/builds.xml

-It is taking so long because the code is held with duct tape. They want to polish it up and make sure no bugs are left. This was ages ago, however.

-They've teamed up with AMD for this port, as you've all seen from the Catalyst beta driver leak. They are adding a lot of sweet things such as parallax occlusion mapping, ambient occlusion, HD textures, lots of normal maps, exclusive online content for the PC, and much more.

-It will be available on Steam two weeks after launch. It has been discussed a possible Origin version will be available as well. However, sites who are taking pre-orders for Steam keys are lying.

-A R.A.G.E. Modding SDK is in the works. This means official mod support with proper tools.

-The game will have anti-piracy support, although folks will get around this in no time.

-The Steam version is uploaded to Valve's database and gets frequent updates for the closed beta. It is currently listed as a ValveTestApp, but I cannot tell which AppID it is.

-Online support for 32 players is confirmed, as shown by recent leaks.

-The game launcher has two options:

Current Gen mode:

  • Uses DX11, tons of custom options as mentioned above.
  • Automatically runs a benchmark at first startup and changes the game's settings accordingly.
  • Mantle support is in the works. It does not have an ETA yet but it is planned to be released around August

Last Gen mode:

  • Uses DX9/DX10, less custom options.
  • Automatically runs a benchmark at first startup and changes the game's settings accordingly.
  • Mantle support is in the works. It does not have an ETA yet but it is planned to be released around August

-Retailer version comes with a special code for a random in-game weapon or vehicle. It has two install discs. Cover art is different from the console version.

-The game was supposed to release back in January. I don't know why it has been delayed.

Again, Don't ask me questions. I won't post anymore. Here's three questions people will definitely ask me:

-Do you work for Rockstar?

I kinda used to.

-Can I trust you?

That's up to you.

-Why are you posting here?

Why not?

So, lets say that R* give an announcement on the 17th or 18th next week. They tell us about the release date (around end of May/Start of June), as well as system requirements and maybe some extra features as an apology for the wait.

What will you do while you wait?

Personally, I will hold back around £30-40 and stick the game in my Wishlist. Come release, I might wait a day or two and let everything settle down with the download rush and have a look at reviews for the quality of it.

Almost anything is actually new, I said most of that and I know it because it was told to me by Rockstar themselves.

The bug logs only have 2012 in them because that was when the testing was done, obviously the game had to be started way before and in 2010 was when the first rumors about V coming started.

I don't know anything about mod support.

Mantle support makes sense.

The delay was needed because the game wasn't ready to be released yet.

Don't know who you are (although what you're doing sounds familiar to me)but what you said far as it goes makes sense according to what I was told, but do you have actually something new and unexpected to say?

Why would you use the term "port" and then say it was developed alongside the console versions...?

Port = Ported from a certain system onto another (in this case, from the consoles to the PC).

Can we please stop throwing that word around now? It's getting confusing.

I don't have much to add except we all know the PC version is definitely NOT a port. This makes me wonder how true that post is, but we'll just have to wait and see. That is all.

Because the game was built with console limitations in mind. If it were built for PC then all the assets in the game would be of higher quality since they'd be created specifically for the PC.

But since I can all but guarantee this won't be the case and they had to build everything in mind for the consoles, then yes it is a port.

Hell even games that were released alongside the consoles and EVEN the developers saying PC was lead platform, like Battlefield 3, it all turned out to be a lie to trick people such as yourself.

If a game is made that supports Xbox 360 or Playstation 3 and then happens to be released on PC either right at launch or delayed, IT IS A PORT. The oonly PC games that are NOT ports are games that were built ONLY for the PC and then brought to consoles at a later date. Titles like Far Cry 1 and Crysis 1. Quake series, Unreal Tournament, etc. Noticing a pattern here? All old PC titles save for Crysis 1 which is one of the last quality AAA titles that was NOT a port.

My bad folks. What I meant is that it's been developed alongside with the console versions AFTER being ported by a compiled console project. What they've done in the past couple of years is to compile a first alpha build for consoles and then copypaste the code for the PC version and port it from there. I'll edit my post. Sorry!

Yes, that sucks. Definitley consoles delay the technology of games.

Its a shame tha PC dont have exclusive triple AAA games. That would be mindblowing.

My bad folks. What I meant is that it's been developed alongside with the console versions AFTER being ported by a compiled console project. What they've done in the past couple of years is to compile a first alpha build for consoles and then copypaste the code for the PC version and port it from there. I'll edit my post. Sorry!

We just want to learn PC announce / release date. We don't give a f*ck with game info's.

If you knew how often that happens you'd be surprised.

So you talk in the name of the whole community? Good that you don't, otherwise we would all be seen as enraged drama queens.
