GTA Online ruined GTA.

The thing that annoys me the most is if you are an asshole you are punished. (cheater pool etc.)

its Grand THEFT auto not Grand dont be a meanie or we'll punish you auto.

Exactly. They are idiots for that entire design. The main feature of the game revolves around you being a crazy / total bastard to society. This isn't the sims, and yet they want us to act like it is. R*'s tutorial of GTAO: "Oh hey nice bike, I really like red! Come on lets ride together you can sit behind me so your jamming your cock into my ass while we drive along the beach. Oh great idea billy, lets have a romantic drive up to the vineyard where we can take turns blowing each other in the moon light." I mean come on there is nothing to do unless you act like a f*cking asshole in gta.

You know what? Some people don't want to act like dicks all the time. Sometimes, I feel like unwinding with a few friends after a stressful day, and a quick cruise or hike in the mountains provides this kind of release. My online character can live whatever lifestyle I choose; It doesn't have to be a life of crime. (Only my free-roam antics get counted as cannon, in my head).

In my opinion, passive mode should make you invisible to other players eg. No being run over, no being shot in vehicles etc. Then, the roleplayers can exist in harmony with the dicks.

Alternately, give us our own full passive roleplay lobbys.

Sure, you can claim that "this isn't the Sims, it's GTA", but that's a flawed argument. In the Sims, I'm a god-like entity with control over others. In GTA, I can "become" a character, and act out their actions as my own. If doing this online brings me pleasure, who's to say that I shouldn't?

As a side-note, you seem to infer that roleplayers/ people who don't like to ruin everyone else's fun are in some way homosexual as a result. Honestly, I've never heard such utter bullsh*t.

OK, i've read some posts, and you guys made good points. I guess multiplayer is an important element these days..

You don't even have to play it as MP. If you haven't already, I'd recommend going onto Online in an Invite Only session and doing jobs that only need one player. There's literally hundreds of jobs you can do.

I agree. I play online by myself all the time.

So you're butthurt that people like Online more than SP because SP gets boring quick no matter what game it is?

Most people wouldn't have stuck around for IV if it weren't for the multiplayer. f*ck, pretty much every long-lasting game is because of multiplayer. Burnout, LBP, Battlefield, even COD.

Nobody gives a sh*t about Sleeping Dogs or Just Cause anymore because they have no long-lasting multiplayer. Fun singleplayer, but it doesn't last long because it's singleplayer.

That's all SP is, and that's all SP will ever be. A short playthrough everyone enjoys and that's that.

It's 2014, OP. Move on. If singleplayer only games are so good then why don't you go get a PS2 and play all of those wonderful SP only games?

Watch out, we got a badass over here. ''its 2014, moving on''. HAHAHAHAHAHA!

Same here, as of right now, I'm playing in Invite-Only sessions until I reach a very high level, max out all my cars, and still have hundreds of thousands of dollars left after all is said and done. Only then I might consider going back into public lobbies.

Geralt of Rivia

I prefer SP but online is where gaming is at these days and if you don't adapt you end up like Blockbuster.

I remember when Blockbuster used to be the sh*t. It's a shame that they didn't adapt.

Wait until they start creating games for the Xbone and PS4. Hopefully they will redeem themselves. If not, expect a Red Dead Online and other bullsh*t. Greedy f*cking pigs.

I cannot wait for them to make games on the PS4 and Xbox One. The games will be sooooo much better because of the hardware increase.

512 MB of RAM to 8GB, among other things? Yes, please.

It's unfortunate, but it's true.

Hell, even Bethesda is doing it with Elder Scrolls Online (And I like it. It's actually fun. Not worth the money, but it's fun).

I prefer SP but online is where gaming is at these days and if you don't adapt you end up like Blockbuster.

Not true, believing something that stupid is spreading this cancer even further. I knew gtao was going to be a pile of sh*t before it was even released, just like iv's online. I don't care what others do for fun so if you honestly like the multiplayer of a gta game that's fine, but I'm one that only cares about the single player and there are millions out there that only care about the SP. As long as that market exists, R* would be dumber than sh*t to not capitalize on it, and they know it.

Tell me, how is it not true?

Totally disagree with you OP: GTA V has the best SP of the series, with some of the best missions, and one of the longest campaigns (about 120-130 missions). That's before you consider that a load of GTA Online missions can be played by one person.

I think GTA V had the best missions, but not the best story. But, to me, missions > story, so I'm content.

When I played GTA: Online, I always played by myself. It's so much fun, because the roleplay elements are multiplied when you go into Online.

OP: I disagree. I think R*'s positives with this game outweigh the negatives.

I also think being on old-as-sh*t hardware had a lot to do with it, but only time will tell on that theory.

A quick cruise or a hike in the mountains? Really?! Hahahaha. Obviously you can do those things and that's fine but that is not the nature of what gta is all about. With your type of logic it's like buying a racing game and just sitting at the start doing burnouts. Sure you can do it, but it is not the true essence, and sorry to break it to you but this is gta and if you don't want to play as a criminal like you said and just want to hike up mountains and drive there are way better games for those types of things. I do agree with passives getting their own lobbies because I never could stand those pussies and loved it when they would enable it after I spawn killed them a million times and they think they are safe....only to have me hit them with my car and kill them  .

I think without an online mode GTA V would have still sold like f*ck.

OP, It is a shame, but unfortunately we have to live with the gaming world being as it is now.

GTA 5 earned $1bn in just 3 days of release and GTAO wasnt even release until 2 weeks later.and with two weeks the game sold 15ml copies now 5 months later the game already sold 32ml copies.SA didnt have multiplayer but sold a whopping 27ml copies and it the 2nd Best Selling Game in the Franchise, with V being #1 and IV being #3 with 25ml copies.

GTA is a Powerful Franchise that doesnt need Online to sell, but it needs it to bring in new fans (i guess).

The difference with your analogy is that a racing game is for...racing.

You can do multitudes of things in GTA. That's why it's open world and has lots of different activities.

Is GTA a golfing game? How about a tennis game? A racing game? A flight sim? Maybe it's Business Simulator 2013!

Nope, it's GTA. It combines a lot of things into one.

R* ruined GTA, nothing else.

now explain how and why pls?

@TheMasterfocker

But GTA Predates TES in terms of Multiplayer, the 2D Era games had Multiplayer (with the exception of London 1969),It was skipped for the 3D Era games except LCS and VCS and IV re-introduced it again,GTA brought multiplayer to the Genre while TES didnt have multiplayer until now, which looks like scam.

This is the dumbest sh*t I've heard. All people are different, take you for example: (just guessing) your a young kid who plays games like gears, halo and cod and you think online is the end all be all. Pretty thick headed to think that way considering millions and millions of people will eagerly throw tons of money at you if you make a great single player experience but I don't expect you to understand because with your mentality you cant comprehend business. Sure single player is boring FOR YOU because all you want is some repetitive death match / horde mode for 12 hours straight..yawn. Others find more enjoyment in free roaming in SP but it can be improved greatly by adding endless repeatable missions and activities like drug wars into it.

One day, there will be a Manhunt online, also with micro-transactions. :p

But seriously, R* need to balance their focus on SP and online. If online is getting too much attention, like it is right now, the SP experience will become worse over time. That will not be good news, as GTA has traditionally had an excellent SP experience.

It's not thick-headed to think that way. It's the truth.

-------------------------------

Let's take the correlation of Online games and SP games to Business.

E-Commerce is BOOMING. It's grown exponentially, and it continues to grow rapidly.

Meanwhile, Brick and Mortar stores are decreasing. Who needs to go to a shop when you can order things Online?

You can even now buy groceries online, and have them delivered. I mean, come on!

-------------------------------

Also, I like your made up numbers. Here's some real ones:

Less than 30% of people finished GTA IV's campaign. And guess what? GTA IV was one of the most popular games on the 360, and I assume PS3, for Online. Funny how that works, huh?

Less than 40% of people beat bad Company's campaign. Guess what? Massively played multiplayer!

Just over 50% of people finished Fable II's campaign, and that game didn't even have multiplayer!

CoD is consistently on top of Xbox's top played MP game chart. I wonder why?

Minecraft topped 360's multiplayer chart at one time. Yes, Minecraft.

The majority of people prefer multiplayer, or like having multiplayer included so they can play it.

-------------------------------

It doesn't matter what you or so called 'millions of people' prefer, Online is growing in popularity, and it's changing the gaming world. Look at what happened to Blockbuster.

Accept it or not, it's true, and it's fact.

Why do you think most games now come with Online in one way or another?

-------------------------------

Just some more stuff to back up my point:

Let's look at Steam's most popular games:

- Dota 2

*Online only

- Counter Strike: Global Offensive

*Online only.

- Team Fortress 2

*Online only.

- Football Manager 2014

*Not Online only.

- Civilization V

*Both SP and Online

Those are the top 5.

-------------------------------

In 2012, CoD Black Ops 2 and CoD Modern Warfare 3 were #1 and 2, respectively, on Xbox 360's most popular games.

Guess what those games are famous for? Multiplayer.

Four of the top 10 were CoD titles, two were Halo, two were FIFA, one was Minecraft, and the other one was Battlefield 3, known for, you guessed it, multiplayer!

So, you still gonna deny it, or...?

R* has changed. While SP team instead of working is smoking green sh*t, MP team is making money from all that microtransactions bullsh*t, releasing sh*tty DLC to the game, and 50% of the DLC is only aivable for MP. WTF R*?!! What the hell happened? Where is that amazing SP experience even without all that DLC?! Jesus! :/

Your guesswork is a little off.

Way off.

And considering business is partly about guesswork, I don't think you'd be a very good businessman, so no I won't be taking business advice from you, buddy.

Tbh i am sure GTA vets will tell the OP and others here that GTA (1997) and GTA2 (1999) had Multiplayer,it also on GTA Wiki btw.

They may have had multiplayer, but the focus was SP.

@MasterFocker

Well, GTA IV's online isn't that popular on the PS3. I have to play on a private session if I want a game with more than 3 people.

But that's why I like GTA:O. It's popular, and has a lot of busy sessions.

However, what I don't like is that SP is getting less attention. Both should have an equal amount of attention IMO.

Online is booming, but the traditional SP experience should not be abandoned in the future.

If GTA 4 is empty right now, the big reason is pretty obvious. Also, it's a different platform, so different results.

I am surprised there's that little people though.

In my post, I was talking about the past, just to clarify.

While I PREFER offline story mode, there is NO reason you can't have a game that implements BOTH offline AND online effectively. The idea that Rockstar put less effort into the offline because of the online isn't really based on FACT. I happen to think that the online is a bit disappointing, but that is due to SEVERAL factors that have NOTHING to do with offline.

Perhaps GTA is not the type of game that TRANSLATES well to online multiplayer gaming. Most people that play online are first person shooter fanatics, who expect the SAME kind of experience they get playing Call of Duty or Battlefield. I think those games are DREADFUL and repetitive, but that's just MY opinion. They ARE very popular in SPITE of how I feel about them, so it's not a stretch to say that this type of open world game that involves FAR more than simple kill or be killed objectives may not be what most people want to do online.

The activities and jobs play out MUCH better when surrounded by a STORY in which ties everything you do TOGETHER. Piling up XP and trophy achievements may not be enough to make these jobs and activities worthwhile for many. I haven't played online for more than 1 hour at a time since Valentine's day. I HAVE however, been playing Max Payne 3 again, which NEVER gets old. Perhaps it's because of it's simplicity where the online objectives are simple.

In SPITE of Rockstar's massive effort put into the Online aspect of this game, I don't really feel like the offline story mode was hurt in a significant fashion. The story mode is actually FAR better than the online. could it have been a little bit LONGER? Sure. It would have been GREAT if it was similar in length to San Andreas, but it was STILL a great story mode, and free roaming AFTER the story is finished, is STILL better than roaming around Online.

The Offline free roam is better because there is a TON of content that you LOSE Online like:

Animals. Whether it's hunting, or simply watching nature at work, Offline HAS it, Online does NOT. You don't realize how important this is until you spend a lengthy amount of time Online.

Weather. The Thunder and lightning that is so awesome Offline, is nowhere to be found Online. I have NO idea why, but it's not there.

Traffic. The traffic Offline is busy, seamless and smoothly consistent. Online can feel like No man's land at times. The open world loses the "living, breathing world" GTA is KNOWN for.

Hopefully, there will be future DLC for Offline, because frankly, I'm not sure there's much you can do with the Online to make it more appealing for people suffering from Call of Duty syndrome. That being said, I'm NOT disappointed with the Story mode, because I don't get the FEELING that it was neglected for the online. It's STILL a fantastic offline, and in MY opinion, only finishes 3rd to the greatness of San Andreas and Red Dead Redemption.

That's NOTHING to be ashamed of.

Well uh.. I love GTAO. It's awesome. Tbh, I couldn't be bothered to read much of this thread because more than likely it's all been argued about before. I never really post without reading but hey.

Incidentally, probably some moaning about cash cards in here. I couldn't care less about them, never felt compelled to even look at them. Never bothered grinding missions over n over, I enjoy playing a mixed bag. Never glitched. Only big bit of DLC I couldn't afford was the Roosevelt. Big loss.

Did read the OP tho, this is great...

tl;dr: READ THE f*ckING POST YOU MOTHERf*ckER.

I loved this bit ^^
