Do you ever just walk?

What it says in the title. GTA Online is a pretty fast-paced title. We all drive around in supercars, teleport from job to job, and generally raise hell and kill each other.

But I've noticed this way of playing distracts us from the level of detail that's been put in the world. Earlier today, after a 9-hour session full of grinding rooftop rumble and generally causing chaos, I decided to just take it easy. I walked (walked, not even running too much) down eclipse boulevard, down for some shopping at Suburban, then took a taxi (yes, really) back home.

It was nighttime, and the city was beautiful. It's amazing, the things you notice when you're not doing 200 MPH, blasting at fools. The subtle sounds of the city, people chatting, a memorial to some dead kid I've never noticed before (right in the middle of eclipse!). I just took in the atmosphere, and took a lot of pictures. It was a good way to unwind after all the chaos of the day.

Am I just crazy, or are there others that like doing this every once in a while?

Occasionally.

After all, the mechanic doesn't deliver cars to your feet.

Sometimes I prefer running on foot through backyards and swimming through underground waterways to escape cops as opposed to outrunning them in a car.

I learned early on that when a session is just too chaotic and volatile, and I've had enough of being spawnkilled, owned in races, or just having a bad night, overall, I will go into a solo session and just walk around, listening to the amazing ambient sounds that have been put into this game - traffic, distant sirens, train horns, planes, people chatting or on their phones... it's incredibly detailed.

I lived in Boston for many years, but eventually moved out to rural MA to have a yard, family, etc. So, for me, the sounds of a virtual city are a wonderful way to reflect and think back to years gone by.

Of course, there are times when I'll stroll my character out in the wilderness, and that's equally amazing.

And then there's the gorgeous landscapes to see... walking around Los Santos can be a complete SiMS-like experience, if you want it to be. For me, it's a nice break from the mayhem.

Nice post topic. Cheers! ;)

ps. I'd be down to check out the photos you took. Maybe consider sharing them in the pinned "Stories" thread, along with your experience and your pics. Just saying is all. ;)

I mainly walk around LS or any civilized area of the map. I do go offroading in my Bison and take to the trails in that to see the wilderness.

Not trying to offend you OP, but who does this in a video game?

Ive done it also. Everything he said is true. Its nice to walk around and just see the beautiful graphic work that is San Andreas.

Le fedora is strong with you, OP.

That said yes, I do walk sometimes, but only if I am in passive mode, and I think it's just a multiplayer mode, not a title as you refer to it.

Now I hate you.

A Maned Wolf

Its fun walking around, eves-dropping on npc phone calls, watching the EMS and fire dept.respond to trouble, and seeing how well dressed the npc's are compared to me.

I sometimes like to just ride my bike around. It seems like when I'm riding a bike, people don't take me as a threat.

You probably shouldn't walk in a game that's so fast-paced they should have removed walking altogether because it's impractical.

But yeah, I walk towards the store just a few meters away from my apartment. Who the hell drives a car just to get to the other side of the street? I'm not that lazy.

I walk. I run. I ride my bike. Sure it's a game about crime and murder, but people need to take a step back and just soak up the world R* gave us. I bet some people here didn't even know the crosswalk markers work. (With red lights too, just like real life, except for hitting the button). It's great.

Whenever I'm feeling chill, I ride my bike around. The BMX is loads of fun and it's enjoyable to lose the cops through parking lots and hopping small walls. I've also walked around small towns like Sandy Shores, finding all the hiding spots, the little details, the nice covers, etc. I even went on a little swim. Guy with a boat ran me over, though, so that didn't last. I also call a taxi and make him do the whole highway, changing the GPS Route each time he nears the location I previously asked. Just for fun and waste hard-earned money. Supporting this dude.

I dont generally walk anywhere but I will bike it around. Had some good FR sessions just cruising around and seeing what others are up to. At first other players will shoot you on sight but if you let it slide and head straight back to the bike after your death you are usually left alone. They realise you are no threat. I got right into some tanking action using that method. Guy in tank kills me. I respawn, salute and head straight back to the bike. After that he let me bunny hop the tank while he was causing chaos around the map. Im not saying this works in all cases however. In fact with a tank its probably pretty rare.

I will pwn you newbs

I do this every now and then. I really like lesters little neighborhood. I wish you could buy a house there. I bet this would be a lot better using my turtle beaches. I'd probably hear a lot of things I haven't heard before.

I like exploring random places and trying to do stuff like parkour. Or sometimes just watching traffic, it's so smooth.

are you kidding me? Why do you waste your time walking? It's a videogame, not real life. I sometimes walk but for few seconds.

I know how you feel.

I never got tired of cruising around Liberty City, taking in the sights and sounds, all with the steady flow of pedestrians and traffic. It made me feel like a tourist!

It's frankly quite amazing how much detail Rockstar put into their landscapes. If only people slowed down a bit to take it all in.
