This game is dead?

Came back to this after a few weeks of not playing, only to find the game is practically dead. At least unless you're playing in a session with friends. I could not join a single race, and took about half an hour to get into a contact mission where my partner died within the first minute and lost all the team lives. Is the game really this dead right now? I joined countless sessions and tried joining random activities, only to find I was the host and nobody was joining.

So all in all 90 mins spent playing : More than 3/4 spent in waiting screens, and 1/4 spent in dead lobbies with people who may as well not have been there.

Well most other games I can join a session on my own and at least find SOMEBODY playing, but in this game I can hear the tumbleweeds in the lobbies as I sit there joining empty session after session, and finding absolutely nothing to do but free roam. Don't get me wrong I LOVE this game but it totally sucks how dead it is at least on the 360. My friends aren't always playing the same time as I am so sometimes it'd be nice to find randoms to play with, anyone would do at this point.

Where you using 'free aim'

It seems that alot more players use 'assisted aim' and I find when I have my game set to 'assisted aim' I find alot of missions, races, deathmatches, parachuting etc with a number of players already waiting to start. In 'free aim', for me it's dead.

Well I made this thread because I'm legitimately shocked at how few players I was finding. This is on a weekend, and the game has even had DLC released recently. The last time I played a few weeks/maybe a month ago there were way more people and this was not an issue at all. When it comes to online gaming I'm simply not the type who has patience to sit for hours waiting to get into a nearly empty lobby, so I expect AAA games like this to be at least somewhat populated so I don't run into this issue.

Yes I am using free aim, maybe that's the problem. What a shame, for me there's no fun in the assisted aim multiplayer. Races are ok I guess since there's no shooting but I don't like missions or TDM or anything else where shooting is involved, the auto aim takes out any skill so it's too brainless.

Not sure what it is. I'm in Europe too and I'm always in a full lobby pretty much. I get some that have one or two people but I generally just leave and find a new one.

I just assumed the severs were being sh*t since R*'s last update. I've been in populated lobbies, but I don't stay long.

As for dead; nope. With the revelation of more Heist-related information from game files, for me, it's just getting interesting.

Same man. Games are dead. But hey, look at that.. all you guys are saying the same. Thus, why don't we add each other and make a game, that's got players? Players willing to do missions and races.....

Now there's a concept.

Add me. Half-Of-Zero

The latest patch 1.11 has once again broken the server joining system. Rather than filling a server to max before creating a new one, it's creating a new one once a server reaches 5 people. This in turn, creates an illusion that gtao is dead. Hopefully, they are working on the problem and will fix it in the next update.

Remember in 1.08 or 1.09, they had the same issue?

Yes I am using free aim, maybe that's the problem.

Not maybe....that's exacly your problem!

It doesn't matter if you complain about how boring aim-assist lobbies are, that's just the reality nowadays! 98% of GTAO players play with aim-assist.

Let me prove you wrong.

Now Imagine one of those blue dots as people and the objects as servers. See the way those dots keep moving from place to place? Same way people move from servers to servers. But it also depends on your net connection and your country. So my conclusion is, The game is not dead. You are in a wrong server. I never joined an empty server ever...

I almost always end up in empty or near-empty lobbies, and I use assisted aim.

I think it's just the matchmaking system that blows.

Numbers are going down when you look at things like the xbox live activity reports.

Also depending which websites you use / communities your in you get different views as to why. In many circles the game has become so notorious for cheats and exploiters that the honest gamer simply stays away.

I know thats a big reason why I play online a lot less. My other reason is theres no progression or objective. Its all just mindless 10 minute jobs with nothing to work for. I do rooftop rumble today and I'll do it again tomorrow. I'm not going anywhere but round and round in circles.

Theres no online story to work through or anything. And nothing you do is connected. So I steal a titan for Lester. Then steal 2 suvs of explosives. What are these things used for? Its all just pointless junk.

If it was connected and had a story to it. Mission 1 might be steal a titan mission 2 might be get the explosives. Mission 3 might be blow a wall in zancudo anf steal some rhinos and use the titan from mission 1 to fly the rhinos out. Something like that would be much better as things would have a genuine purpose to them. And the online would feel much more structured. Everything would feel like it was leading somewhere. A bigger picture so to speak.

I think this is partly why less people are playing. There has been huge demand for coop gameplay on gta for years. One of the biggest things about 5 was people hoping they could play with friends. I could be franklin and my friend could be michael or something which I know upset many gamers when it didn't turn out that way. And gtao thus far has failed in that respect also. Theres coop jobs and stuff sure but no reason or story behind any of them. And all can be done in 10 minutes.

So theres 2 reasons I think gamers are getting bored of it or not playong anymore. Theres probably hundreds more

Maybe it's my region, I'm in Europe? Are the servers region based?

Maybe you have restricted NAT

There is still a ton of people playing at all times. Its the matchmaking that has been weird the past few days. I was doing races today though and 16 person lobbies were filling up in a few seconds. with people leaving and another joining right away.

I will pwn you newbs

The matchmaking system is sh*t. And if I want to do a race or mission I have to go back to single player and switch to assisted aiming otherwise every lobby will be empty

I have thus problem in free aim death match sometimes they are so dead its sad because free aim is very fun, I love Howe you're actual skill is bedded to aim and ours just more fulfilling I guess,,, I just can't being my seeks to go back to auto aim so I guess I'll just stick to my quiet lobbies and just keep looking like I do till I find some people.
