Computer Animation vs. Cel Animation

Which is your favorite?

 

Cel animation can look beautiful when done right, and computer(Flash) animation offers smooth movement though it doesn't seem to have the same "charm" as cel animation.

 

Personally I prefer cel animation. Maybe it's just nostalgia, but it looks very good in combination with hand-painted backgrounds. Unfortunately, it became "streamlined" and the animation got very shoddy by the 1970s and 1980s.

Cel animation is easily the best, I hate most flash animation, the only flashed animated show I can think of right now that I liked was Bob's Burgers but that was only the first season. I love the cartoon Arthur but since season 16 when they changed to flash animation I've stopped watching it, it looks like someone sh*t on sandpaper then poured food colouring on it and recorded themselves moving it around with yarn.

I hate to condemn, any medium, of art, because it is all good when used in a creative way, or enough love and attention is put into it. And of course it's all sh*t unless a good story or compelling subject is involved.

This, especially since most americans think that Animation = meant for kids. Even if the story has plots that might interest adults, they always find a way to make it in such a way that it will always be free for all ages, which is really annoying.

 

But I still preffer Cel Animation over CG. CG just looks crappy when people want make 3D characters who always seem to be made of plasticine, reason why animes tend avoid using such stuff.
