The Different Types of Drifters

It's a common misconception that drift cars have no grip. Infact it's the opposite as they need lots of grip to do high speed drifting in competition.

If you guys need a good website about drifitng then go here http://www.driftworks.com/blog/drifting/

Yep.

Most of the D1 spec cars are just as fast at racing too. Plenty of grip.

I think it was an Amemiya RX7 (could be wrong, definitely some RX7 though) drift car that also held a sub 1 minute lap time of Tsukuba, very fast cars.

Yeah, there's drift in GTA. Just like there's car "tuning", and adjusting gun scopes to compensate for distance, gravity and winddrift...

FYI: none of the above are in GTA.

Could someone explain to me what drifting is? And what makes it different from just powersliding?

You can drift with almost any car in GTA.

This whole thread was a waste of time(as usual here.)

Fixed...also the Elegy is not so good for Drift...IMO: 9F, Futo, Jester, Feltzer, Sentinel, Jackal, phoenix, Comet.

You are the one that needs to be fixed.

Drifting is a recently invented sport with rules and an objective.

What you are doing is simply putting the car sideways which people have been doing since the model A and is in no way drifting.

Again, spinning donuts and power sliding around turns is not drifting.

lol, you don't even know me...

OP is a ninja. I'm taking an imaginary hat from my head and nodding. Also wishing it wasn't the last month of school, I'd take some time to practice drifting.

Also, want more garages. Banshee and Futo have long been on my wish list, but beneath spot 10. :(

Drifting is controlled sliding. Watche some real drifting on YouTube and be careful not to wet yourself. These guys get all 4 tires spinning then tug themselves about, turning the car into a sort of hovercraft sliding about.

So far my favorite car to drift has been the Dominator. I've got a little route on top of the parking lot next to the tennis courts in Richman where i test out cars.

Cars i still want to test out are:

Schwartzer

Surano

Penumbra

9F

The best of those is probably the Schwartzer

Yeah i didn't like any of them. Dominator is still my favorite.

I don't understand how you can like the Banshee so much. I tried it and it does drift pretty well, but it all feels a little too controlled for me. From what i found with the Banshee it's almost impossible to drift and then change direction by 90 degrees while continuing to drift at low speeds. I just couldn't get the back to come around in the same amount of space as i can in the Dominator.

Banshee just had too much grip for my liking in certain situations.

A car i think would be good for drifting and has very unique attributes is the Comet. I tried it a little but it's a very difficult car to master, very loose rear end with what i think is slightly too much acceleration.

There is a certain trick to drifting the banshee, you need to get it to downshift and create alot of wheelspin, I have made a video tutorial on this. Although it only shows me doing it in a straight line you can use the same technique for drifting, here's the video:

Oh yeah i know how to downshift, i use that technique when i drift. But i tested a lot of cars out yesterday on a track that has a right, followed by a right, then an instant left. It's pretty difficult and i only managed to stay drifting the entire time maybe two or three times. But with the Banshee i would downshift in to the first turn, slide around, then by the end of the first turn i was still in first gear with not enough RPM to get the wheels spinning in time for the next right and it would just turn without breaking the back out no matter what i did.

Maybe i was being unfair to the Banshee in my track choice, it was a track that required low speeds and constant throttle management and i suspect the Banshee may be more suited to a high speed drift.

How the f*ck are you guys downshifting in GTA??

Also, RB? Is he tapping brake or e-brake? I guess it's e-brake.

It's... lol

Anyway, my only view on drifting in GTA is that it's a crying shame that LSC doesn't sell LSD's. Then maybe we could actually, drift, as opposed to some seriously out of place looking slides.

Dude, if LSD was sold at LSC or anywhere else tbh, you would be seeing a lot more than cars skidding.

Well for what its worth, we can atleast try to come close to drifting the best we can because alot of GTA fans love to drift so instead of going to Forza or whatever, we drift the best we can on GTA

The ratloader drifts pretty good. Its slow but it it angles well.

I've tested out the Ratloader and it does indeed drift quite well. I have now added it to the list :)

I just gave you a link 2 posts up....

Drifting is a driving style in which the driver uses throttle, brakes, clutch, gear shifting and steering input to keep the car in a condition of oversteer while manoeuvring from turn to turn. Drifters emphasize car control by coordinating the amount of counter steer (or opposite lock) with the simultaneous modulation of the throttle and brakes to shift the weight balance of the car back and forth through the turns. Furthermore, they strive to achieve this while adhering to the standard racing lines and maintaining extreme slip angles

Why is the jester missing from the list? Its an amazing drifting car, and even better when its raining. You just drift into all corners as smooth as butter.

Oh sweet, i'll have to try the coquette out, I also found that the Vigero can do the Mid-Drive speed boost.

My Carbo does it too, and pretty much every high powered RWD car in the game. (I try the trick out with every car I jump into, handy for when you're pinned and need some quick boost from nothing.)

There are only two types of Drifters;

1. Racers that slide around corners intentionally losing most forward momentum

2. Racers that hold the optimum line maintaining as much forward momentum.

The first group is as effective as the players rolling around like chimps, lots of style points but in the end just losers :D

Hahaa well that's a good way to put it in terms of the player instead of the car! :p

hey wise guy. good video, excited for the new ones. subbed. do you have a crew or know any other ps3 drifters around.. i see youre on xbox so i wont be driving with you... but youre a very talented "drifter" in GTA. i put that in quotes for the GTA NAYsayers getting caught up in telling everyone that wants to try to drift in GTA that you absolutely cant do it, youre wrong, suck invisible dicks, gta physics wont let you do it, blah blah blah. just shut up already. were doing the best with the physics we were given. hopefully well get some DLC or a patch or something that will include drift transmissions and tires that allow for better drifting. until then i will emulate wise guys techniques.

any word on when those new vids are coming out? im a proficient drifter in my sultan but like your elegy they are AWD and pretty difficult to get to look right. im excited to go home and try the banshee with your downshifting method, that looks pretty damn sexy.

Drifting is not about having a fast racing pace, it's more like surfing using cars.

Nice list man, I have the futo vigero and banshee. I also have the Phoenix and comet, though the comet is more just crazy than a drifter, haha.

so i outfitted a banshee as a drift car in my garage online. it was tons of fun last night. that downshift method really works but is hard to time right. once i get the hang of it i think it'll be AMAZING. but damn is it hard to get used to. i spin out a lot because of the oversteer. either way, downshifting and getting the tires spinning before starting the drift is crazy beautiful. i had maybe 3 SOLID drift turns last night out of the 100s i tried. Im pumped to get used to it.

my question: what do you guys think about mods?

ive left armor and suspension at stock

ive got fully upgraded turbo/engine/transmission

i went with carbon fiber hood, bumper, and drift wing

i have rally wheels (rally master i think... whatever is last on list in online) with custom tires.

do you think i should go to full armor? or any suspension differences?

should i go carbon fiber wheels?

any other mods to help the drifter within?

Best specs for the Futo (imo):

- 40 percent armor

- Level 4 engine

- Stock Suspension

- Level 4 transmission

- Turbocharger

and one thing that throws everyone off.

- Muscle tires.

Don't ask me why, but the muscle tires imo, give you more wheelspin, and a few of my friends agree with me.

Yeah when you downshift in the banshee and start drifting if you go that little bit too far in the turn the oversteer will just completely throw you off but its great when you get used to it!

I'm not too sure about the mods but I know less armour will make it lighter and throw the tail out more with some quicker drifts but other than that i'll have to do some more research on that

word, well its been a while since that post and ive gotten much better. its true you swing out a bit more with no armor, but as its gta online, i have full armor. and actually i like it better because its a little more stable.

i kinda tested out the muscle car wheels/tires and their slip factor vs the reportedly grippiest tires (tuner) and couldnt find much difference. so for pure naming reasons i went with the tuner driftmeisters since they are the only wheel that mentions drifting out of ALL of the options. im still on stock brakes and while going as light as possible may be beneficial to some other drift cars i tune in the future, it is not necessary for the banshee... you almost need to weigh it down to get it to do the same drift turns consistently.

also, ive been trying out using your infinite burnout method for some slower drifts and thats fun. even better is to go blazing into a turn while tapping ebrake, reg brake, while holding gas, then downshifting right before the back end is where you want it, so that you drift out of the turn. its nice being able to keep that much speed, throw the drift, and then burn out of the whole thing....

so now im a little looser, using all your techniques... but im having trouble with consistency... that drift loop you do inside the mall building near the downtown LSC is really clean. ive gotten maybe 2-4 laps like that but its hard to keep it goin. looking forward to your technique video. wish you were on ps3
