Different Types of Drifters

Hey guys, In this thread I'm going to tell you about how some cars fall into different categories for drifting and how they're different to one another.

Basically, every car that can drift have their own way of drifting but i'll be focusing on just four:

- Banshee

- Elegy

- Futo

- Vigero (Representing most of other driftable vehicles)

Banshee

I like to call the Banshee the tail happy high speed drifter, this being because the banshee has the ability to use the mid-drive speed boost(which I made a video on) to drift. It throws the rear end out and flies round the corner. The Banshee can be hard to control when drifting but I believe it is definitely the most fun to drift. It is also great at circling large objects such as cars (Tokyo drift style :panic:)

Elegy

The Elegy is very much a clean drifter, due to it being AWD and having such high traction it can do short controlled drifts with it being very hard to loose control, it is great for pulling off U-turn drifts. When you donut the car it also makes an odd circle by making pretzel like shapes out of the tyre marks it leaves on the ground.

Futo

The Futo is probably the most favourite for the player due to its ease of use and simple effort to maintain some sweet drifts, its great at switching your direction of drift quickly. I would highly recommend this car for beginners and for it to be used in the rain to make it easier to practise.

Vigero

I have used this car as an example for most driftable cars. I would say it comes at a medium level of difficulty to drift and can be well maintained on large corners. The car's unique abilities are circling a single point and good for drifting on dirt tracks.

I have also recently made a video explaining all of this:

Please Note: This is not a tutorial, but a showcase of the abilities of each car.

Drifting would be better if the cars in the game had softer suspension and could downshift like in IV.

i was expecting to find something about people with an unsteady lifestyle who roam the streets on the search for that next high, that next reason not to die, that one moment that makes it all worthwhile.

i obviously forgot where i was for a moment.

I just hit an incredible drift with the turismo while if was raining. I was outrunning some bounties and it was so satisfying to hit.

Do the type of rims you choose have anything to do with the way the cars drift.

Futo for beginners???? Wat??

Fully upgrade every aspect about the futo, except brakes and suspension, keeps those stock, and tell me its for beginners.

This tuned version of the futo provides really long lasting drifts that are hard to keep control of, but very rewarding.

And put stock armor. 100% makes the car heavier.

I definitely agree, though there is one car that can do a decent downshift which is the Banshee, as I mentioned earlier you can use the mid-drive speed boost to do this and also use it for drifts. Also the vigero has a very soft suspension compared to most other cars, try them out and see for yourself.

The ratloader drifts pretty good. Its slow but it it angles well.

Ahh yes, I was looking at it while making at my list wondering if I was actually able to drift it, Ill have to test it out and if true I'll add it to the list, Thanks man :)

Do the type of rims you choose have anything to do with the way the cars drift.

Most rims don't however, it is proven that off-road tyres can give extra grip in the dirt so for safe keeping I would probably stick to High end, Tuner, Muscle, Sport and Lowrider

great wot

good job

The bison and bobcat are really good for making alot of smoke! This being is when you add turbo to the car the wheels just spin like anything and you can use this to your advantage when drifting.

Wat, no Dinka Jester?

I haven't actually had the chance to try drifting a fully modded version of the car yet, until someone can offer me the chance to drive one, it'll have to wait to enter the list :') If you do have one, send me a message on XBL: TitaniumDurante

Sultan power slides corners really well. Pretty op as a sports car.

I know many people judge cars only on too speed in which the sultan isnt great. But I find it can take most corners much faster than any other car in the class because of how well it power slides. Have won many a race with my trusty sultan

I agree that the sultan corners really well. Because it is also AWD and with fairly high traction, it falls into the same category as the Elegy.

Stop calling donuts around your friend 'drifting'.. giving me the shivers. The 20 seconds of actual drifting in this video was good, you atleast have technique..

Surge can drift, don't know why anyone would use it as a drift car though

I'll try this out as soon as I can thanks :)

I found your assessment matches mine exactly. While the futo certainly has good drifting traits, it lags behind others in long wide drifts. It's definitely king of the parking garage drift though.

how do you build a car for drift? do you cancel armor and put carbon parts to make it lighter or just the opposite? and which upgrades to apply which to not

ShinobiFixer

You guys should make a video showing what you do with the controllers, these techniques are incredibly hard to pull off for some reason for me. Like perfectly going around objects, it's pretty hard.

Any muscle or sports classic in the rain should do as a drifter. And I mean real drifting, going around a bend at decent speed while keeping a long slide.

Then sports and supers can do some good powersliding at very low speed, but they´re so grippy that once they´re not traction limited keeping long slides at a good speed isn´t really something you can do well. So yeah, they´re good to do some doughnuts but not to drive sideways at speed.

And good job OP, liked the video.

Damn man you're good ! Especially with the Elegy and the Futo !

I usually drift around the city using the Dominator and Vigero, i found th Dominator a lot more fun to drift with than Vigero.

GTA IV physic is actually fun for drifting, if you're about to spin out just tap the brake and the car will balanced out. I remember having a lot of fun drifting the Feltzer in IV, in V the Feltzer is too grippy.

Wat, no Dinka Jester?

lol, drifting with fwd...Fail, Jester is anything but an fwd. Edited by rampage08
