How to stay alive during tutorials

For those of you that want to start a new online character, but do not look forward to the prospect of being shot down, blown up, run over or otherwise maimed, killed, and/or destroyed by other players as you go through the tutorials, there is a simple way to avoid these other players. The downside is that you will lose your chosen car (unless you chose the Asea).

 

No matter what type of session you choose from the GTA Online menu when starting a new character, you will always be sent to a public session after the race with Lamar. But there is a way around it.

 

Simply go through the race normally, but at the end when Lamar is talking to you about the job that Gerald (or G) has for you, log out or disconnect from the internet. You will be kicked from the session and returned to story mode. Then go back to the pause menu, online, play GTA online, and choose Invite Only. You will return to the online game right where you left off with two exceptions. First, whatever car you used in the race is replaced by the Asea. Second, you are alone (no other players). You will have to find a car that you like, but now you can go about your tutorials in peace.
