Standard controls OR Alternate controls

Which do you use?

 

I switched from standard to alternate 2 days ago and now regret not using alternate out at the start. Shooting is A LOT more comfortable using alternate, even as a passenger in a vehicle car. L1 auto-aims AND shoots. I no longer have to press L2 to aim AND R2 to shoot.

 

The main benefit is shooting on foot though, L2 and R2 just aren't made for shooting imo it's slightly quicker to use R1.

Switched to alt once I got the game, cause it's just better for the PS3 controller.

 

Didn't know standard needed 2 buttons to shoot from a car. That's cool to know.

 

I always wondered how players hanging on my police riots could aim without shooting and I couldn't.

I prefer alternate because I don't like using the same buttons for shooting and as driving, but the draw back is that yes when riding as a passenger you cannot aim and fire, only fire which sucks majorly.

Is that what alternate does? I was just checking this out last night and the damn menu wasn't showing the differences in the button layout whatsoever.

 

Also: People who say trigger buttons are stupid for gas/break. I'd hate to see vehicles irl just having a buttons for the pedals.

this. people just don't like change. trigger for acceleration makes a lot more sense and is much more ergonomic, don;t know why it wasn't like this all along.

Nah when you have gas as x you only really have 3 speeds. Stationery half pressed and fully pressed.

 

The triggers are much better. R2 and l2 give you so much more control over your car makes applying just enough brakes to slow down for a corner and much easier to control your speed along windy stretches of road.

 

As for shooting I only wish they'd follow some game trends where a light trigger press only fires 1 shot and a full press is automatic or something. Or in the case of drive bys half pressing l1 aims the gun without firing and full press opens fire. My accuracy would be so much higher if this worked.

Also R2 as gas might be fine for most of your lil 12 year old hands but not mine.

I don't think my hands are very large at all, but the bottom of my palms do not even touch the PS3 controller. It feels too small. Xbox controller fits my hand perfectly.

I like to have full grip without feeling like my hand is slipping off the controller, and that is exactly why the holding the PS3 controller feels like to me.

Depends how you hold it. I find when I try and keep fingers on all the shoulder buttons in some games then the controller can feel small as I dont feel like I have sufficient grip in it. But other times I drop 2 fingers and only keep 2 on the shoulder buttons and it feels fine. So I can see where people come from.

 

But i personally find xbox controllers the same problems lol

I can admit the controller feels bothersome at times, specially when I switch between gaming machines. But the only problem I ever had with the triggers were trying to keep a grip on them when playing long stints which trigger grips solves easily. I do wish DS4 would be supported on the ps3 more, the ds4 feels amazing to use.

Anyways, to end the argument why you can't use the x button for gas is because you need your thumb to control the camera to be able to shoot. This isn't classic gta where the camera was fixed and you can either shoot left or right out of a car.
