Find The Player

Welcome to Find That Player!

I'm your host, Henry Drillboise. The game is simple; one player hunts while the other hides or what we here like to call "Uncle Tom and the kids"...anyway, as said, it's quite simple. The hunter finds himself a nice perch like a rooftop and, using a sniper rifle, looks for his prey. The prey, using tools like a clothing shop, disguises himself like his surroundings and its habitants to make himself harder to spot. Like all game shows, there is a few rules to ensure fairness and fun. Rules are:

  • The hunter must remove his radar/map. The radar/map can be removed by pressing Start, going to options, Display and toggling Radar to Off.
  • The hunter must remove Player Titles, which removes the name of the player above his head. The Player Titles can be removed by pressing Start, going to Online, Options and at the end of the list should be Player Titles. You can switch it to Full, Full with Crew Tags or Off. This should be Off.

This game is best played with people who enjoy mini-games/roleplay and who you can trust. If you cannot trust any of your friends then you probably weren't that popular at school. There's a few game modes that you can play or you can create one of your own! We've found two that we enjoy the most. The first one is the one mentioned where one player is on a rooftop, using a sniper rifle, finds his target. This game mode has one rule that you can ignore if you're the type to enjoy playing Guitar Hero on Beginner where you just strum on time with no actual notes to hit:

  • The hunter has only one bullet. The reason for this is if the hunter fires one bullet, everyone runs away. The prey can attempt to run with the group if he's blend in with a crowd but the running action for the player is a bit different to the AI. So it is best and recommended to allow the hunter one bullet.

The other game mode is Hot or Cold. The hunter is on foot and must stay in a determined section such as a block or a road. For this, we've used the length of the road at Sandy Shore that features the LS Customs as well as the pathway next to the stores at Vespucci Beach. The game is played as such:

  • The hunter may walk or use a car to go up close or by the prey. The prey must say Hot or Cold depending if the hunter is getting closer (hot) or further (cold) than the prey's current location. The prey is free to say when to say hotter or colder if he wants a delay or not to make the search harder but it is a general good idea to actually say hotter or colder. Not speaking at all is a game mode we've thought but is quite difficult. As said, though, you are free to make your own mode!

The locations for Hot or Cold mentioned were great. The Sandy Shore LS Customs road allows the player to blend in and we've allowed the prey to go into stores. You can ignore the following but we made it clear that once the hunter passes by the prey, the prey cannot slip behind the hunter in an already-searched area. The prey can only move to un-searched areas. If you are in a searched area but not found, we both agreed that the prey cannot move from his hiding spot. The Vespucci one allowed a big search location as well. You should discuss with your friend(s) if after a certain time you can give more hints. Giving up after 10 minutes, declaring yourself a winner, isn't that "winner" to do. Make yourself hidden the longest you can, not survive for a certain amount of time. Also, no hiding in the damn hills, please! Use common sense.

It may be your thoughtless expression or you were normally born looking stupid so here's some examples we've quickly formed together. We've started out a few days ago and have yet to find the best spots and clothes to blend in but these should do.

Here's an easy one:

51u0iq.jpg
Can you find who here is a player? Of course you can!

15x7t3q.jpg
The player cannot be extremely fat! That wasn't even a test. That was the type of question to see if you can pass Kindergarten! How about this one?

23mx7jl.jpg
See him? Come on, Stevie Wonder already has his answer locked in!

1zqc6ys.jpg
It's easy to spot him due to the glasses! Okay, how about this?

21brv6h.jpg
This isn't hard? Well point him to me.

cpxja.jpg
You recognized that vest? I didn't know they wear those in the man-on-man adult videos you watch. Impressive! How about a last challenge, then?

ev4dwi.jpg
It's hard and there's a lot of guys, I know, but you can do it....just like your mom.

soxycp.jpg
He's the one in front of the door, correct! He's also the only white guy there.

If the pictures were too small, please excuse me but they do give you an idea of what we're trying to achieve here. Also, keep in mind it's much harder using a sniper rifle from far away. The Hot or Cold game mode can be much more immersive using a different character than what your friends are used to. We thought it would be a good idea to share this game with you all in hopes of giving us tips for clothes to choose, locations to go and how to act overall to fit into the crowd. We've also thought about making new characters to make it harder such as a different skin color and different sex (male/female). So, did you enjoy this? Will you try this? Tune in next week in "Mommy, I found dad in bed with the babysitter!" to see nothing in particular!

It's a bit disappointing that, as douchy as it sounds as this is my thread, this isn't getting more attention. Probably because it's in the gameplay section instead of the "mad glitch chrome adders" section. For those of you that do see this, try it out and please give me some feedback/tips. :)

i remember doing something similar to this back in gta 4 online.. it was cool

The guy I did this with, we used to do this in Red Dead Redemption when blips would turn off when crouched. That's where the concept sort of came from (along with Ass.Creed 4 MP game type and general hide & seek). It was indeed cool.

Yeah, sorry I don't have full-size pictures (playing on a non-HD TV gives it those black bars on each side). The spoiler picture shows who was hidden (the player) so carefully examine him such as his clothes and then look up to the original picture. It's easy to spot them. One of them, a guy is wearing a bright blue vest/jacket. In the original, he's on the right, back towards us. Just read what I've written under the spoiler picture for the answer. :)

It does help when you actually go in GTA yourself and try it out with a friend. Spotting them becomes a habit but still a small challenge.

I'd love to do this with a huge group of people in an invite only. Seriously great idea, very creative.

This is an amazing idea. It's like Assassin's Creed Multiplayer but, well, with sniper rifles. If anyone is doing this on PS3 tonight, I might be interested in playing!

Agreed. This is an extremely fun and interesting concept. Very well thought out and put together. I look forward to try this. Here's to hoping this gets some legs, and gather some more players and attention.
