But its very finicky about where you can fast-rope from.

And R* broke it for a few patches, lel.

Eh, they fixed that too. If you shoot the pilot the helicopter disappears or blows up. Also Merryweather won't do sh*t for you for several hours.

Not fully true, shot the pilot earlier today for quick transport during "Stocks and Scares", and it didn't disappear, but MW was pissed at me.

I used the merryweather helicopter many times in Rooftop Rumble yesterday and that never happened to me.

That only happens if it hasn't fully landed or is on very uneven ground. As far as Merryweather putting you on blacklist for a while, who cares? I only use it when stranded on missions. Otherwise, Lester's 'locate helicopter' is much more useful. Many use their Pegasus Buzzards anyway - one of the most useful assets in game IMO. Edited March 5, 2014 by gorskiegangsta

the Maverick that can pick you up, it's awkward to do but I set a marker for Ponsonbys on Portola Drive and it gave me the option to Hold X to Rappel.

It is the Regular Chopper. When you ask for a ride, wait for it to come to a complete stop and you can repel by holding "X/Square". I like this more than parachuting because the pilot is often too close to the ground and I die.

 

I shot the Merryweather pilot once and they refused to help me for the rest of that session.

The 'helicopter pickup' service they offer. It's the regular 'ole Maverick - you don't need to own it. Just sometimes saves time/frustration when stranded.

I think that's more about stuff being in the way (or at least the pilot thinking there is). In Rooftop Rumble, if I call right from where I spawned he lands the chopper fine almost every time. If I call from somewhere else, he'll often hover forever or land it so that the rotor blades are hitting something and they eventually come off.

 

The worst is when he never lands at all and just keeps hovering, then after a while he leaves and says "my boss will hear about this!"

Yes and no.

I've done it in front of Trevor's place many times, but it never gives me the option when at Martin's place.

Its pretty picky on where you can fast-rope from.
