The good of catch up and slipstream

So I see a lot of hate for these 2 racing mechanics. People say we'll you should learn to drive better and that is true. Most races in gta are ram festivals. But for people like myself catch up and slipstream are useful.

I collect cars I like I don't just buy the fastest car in each class. Most of my cars are often useless. Custom cars are almost always on.

Now let's say I join a sports classic race with custom cars on. My tornado won't fare well against fully modded z type or Monroe. So I pick a stock Monroe. With catch up and slipstream off the fully modded variants will destroy me in a race. I could race perfectly and if I was against non ram festers they would win because their cars were naturally faster.

I Don't have to learn how to drive because I drove flawless. It's the fact that fully modded cars will be faster than the unmodified car.

This is why catch up and slipstream are in the game to give everyone a chance. Yes catchup and slipstream are slightly broken. I mean if I am in first with a stock infernus and everyone is using adders I shouldn't be penalized as they can easily catch up without catch up due to the cars higher speed.

this si one of the reasons its good to race with a crew of tight knit folks... we always try for competative races, rather than "i pwned your ass" type races, so if theres someone we know doesnt have a custom whip, we turn off customs..

on the whole we prefer no customs to catchup, purely cos catch-ups pretty lame in the way its coded (more a slow down, rather than catchup mechanic... but PR's a bitch right?)

but, in a public lobby your not gonna get that sort of consideration...

as for slipstream im 50/50, i got so used to how it works that it doesnt bother me utilising it for races, but having raced a few tracks last night with it off it does make the race closer, until someone makes a mistake and mistakes cost BIG without slipstream and catchup, for racing purist it does have more realisim and probably a higher level of immersion, but we all play the game for different ways so having the option to toggle catchup, slipstreams and customs does mean that the host (if hes not a douche) can customize the race based on whos in the lobby...

my recommendations, find a good crew or host your own races to set the parametres

Miss Malevolent

The only problem I see, is the fact that there are certain car colors that can only be unlocked via slipstreaming. All this change does is encourage folks to trade race wins.

I put catch up on for my created races. That is the only time I will do it.

Slipstream as I said in another thread was only an issue because it was too much.and caused the crashing at the start that makes catch up a valid reason to be on.

Slipstream should be off for races with catch up on imo.

Glad they are options that can be changed over just removed though choice is better than none.

Do you get raped in GTA 5 online? Like, do you just get spawnkilled or killed for no reason. I know this is irrelevant but I stopped reading when I saw 89 kills and over 1,000 deaths.

Back on topic-

I sort of agree with you. Sometimes I'll get knocked out the race and rely on catchup or splitstream to catch back up so I don't get DNF and I hate it when I'm in some crappy car and everyone's in this fully modded car. Like, what do you expect me to do? Turn my car into a helicopter and fly to the finish line?

I'm on my phone so I don't see my sig but at 89 kills 1k Deaths It's My Secondary character. I don't fight much in game on that character

On topic I agree the these options should be off if customs are off as the race will be more skill oriented. I had to get rid of a lot of my collection cars till we can own multiple garages due to the fact I like racing but to win you need adder turismo jester elegy ect to win because everyone has customs on and catchup and slipstream off

I find it funny that players seem to think they deserve a chance to win anything no matter their choice in cars or mistakes they make. When did this become an actual way of thinking?

If i choose to use a Voodoo for a race.. Im choosing to do things the hard way. I should not have equal rights against a Gauntlet or other faster muscle cars.

Also.. The one thing that annoys me is players acting like all races are these straight lines where it only favors the car with the highest top speed. Theres a reason why the fastest car does not always win.

So enable slipstreaming and catch up? Its not like they removed it.

The most retarded part of slipstreaming tho is how you can slipstream during even the tightest of turns.

You make a good point, OP.

I will still hate ketchup until the day I die though. No matter what you say.

OP, I'm happy it's optional, I believe it should have been since inception. It's default status means most races will remain with it on in any case, so for the general public, the change wont be too dramatic. Now, however, randoms are able to get lucky and find purist racers where before it was nearly impossible.

This is a step in the right direction in my opinion, catering to skill based players rather then solely arcade style game play, it's refreshing and it makes me optimistic.

Black Rabbit

Now they just need to allow "custom cars (cosmetic only)".

......and they should also show the winner's car behind the player on the screen showing the race winner.
