GTAV feels less open-world than GTAIV and RDR

There's no doubt the V is graphically superior to IV and RDR, and as the the many Capt. Obviouses have pointed out the map is bigger than both, but the OP is right about the lack of immersion. V is a beautiful girl who is fun to party with, but she's a terrible date who can't hold a conversation at dinner.

The lack of interiors is a disappointment after RDR. I actually played RDR before IV, so I was disappointed in the lack of interiors in IV too, but I expected R* to build on what they had made with RDR.

The movement and shooting mechanics were better in RDR as well, and greatly better in MP3. Crouching and shoulder switch were new in RDR, lying prone was added in MP3, we get to V and suddenly it's back to 2008 IV mechanics.

My problem with the weather is it rains too damn much. There's a huge desert and IRL LA gets about 15 inches of rain a year, yet it's always raining in my Los Santos.

Ambient sounds are an issue for me too. Why can I hear the ocean when I'm at the observatory?

I don't think the OP is being a "hater," I know I'm not. I like the game I picked it at a release party and it's the only game I've played since then. But I'm not going to be a R* apologist either. This game has some big flaws. Quite frankly I think R* North hasn't been able to keep up with R* San Diego (RDR) and R* Vancouver (now part of R* Toronto) (MP3). Based on the innovations missing from this game it makes me think R* North never even talked with their studios in North America. Hell, it's like they never even played the other studios' games.

RDR is one thing. But TBH if you played SA and/or Skyrim--especially if you played these like I did on the PC with mods---the lack of interiors with V is like ending up with blue balls

What in the world is "superly" and why do you have to be a tool with no evidence to support your claims?

There was about a lot of missions with scripted car chases and too many assassination missions that don't have nothing on V's or VC's

Its awfully funny how you and Tenxax feel IV is superly scripted, even more so than V.

Here's the deal, if you two weren't such hardcore and blinded, ignoramus defenders of this video game, you'd be willing to accept that V is a more scripted game. This is not opinions, it is a fact as observations aren't influenced by opinion.

From what I have seen:

- Cops rubberband, both in NPC chases and chases with you. They can catch up to you no matter what car you are in, and ram you with oddly powerful force.

- You cannot kill whoever it is that you are chasing in a mission until they get to where they are supposed to go.

- Your chases within a mission can somehow be a block away from you, but when you revert the camera forward and then look back again, they're only a few meters from you.

- You can't try things "your way" within a mission without automatically failing.

I could go on and on.

IGN (quote):" Watch Dogs excels when it distances itself from the undeniable imprint that Grand Theft Auto has left on open-world video games. Yes, Ubisofts latest franchise (whose release date has just been (re)confirmed

) features the same gameplay flow that first appeared in GTA III. Procure a mode of transportation, mosey on to a mission marker (most likely getting sidetracked along the way), watch a cinematic, complete a mission, reap your reward, repeat. Everything from Batman: Arkham City to Ubisofts own Assassins Creed has pulled from Rockstars rib. But I stress again, while Watch Dogs manages to capture that flow with more than enough competence, its the brand new details that separates it from most other games and allows for some truly dynamic storytelling.

Firstly is the much-touted living world. Ubisofts take on a slightly-futuristic Chicago that becomes more and more relevant with each installment of the nightly news manages to handle the concept of urban density in a way that few other open world games have captured. Standing on a street corner near what looked like Michigan and Adams, I found myself taking pause and just soaking in the details. Being able to pull out my phone and profile any and all NPCs that walked by brought an odd, sometimes uncomfortable level of realism to Watch Dogs Chicagoans.

I discover that a man who brushes my shoulder just got diagnosed with terminal cancer. A woman on her phone has an income well-below the poverty line. Another man looking into the window of a bar is borderline-obsessed with hentai. While these details might not have a major effect on the core plot of the game though still vague, we do know that our hero Aiden committed some grave mistake many years ago that led to the death of his niece, and suddenly he finds himself wrapped up in similar danger once again being able to gain a bit of insight into each and every NPC is pretty amazing.

With all of that information, my moral choices became much more difficult. Do I hack into the cancer patients phone and steal his ATM PIN, knowing that hell need every last cent to fight the good fight? Do I gain access to the womans car, despite the fact that she has so little in life? Do I follow the hentai aficionado into the bar and take his money by challenging him to a drinking contest minigame? Well, Im happy to say that I only did one of those, and man oh man did winning that drinking contest feel good. Sure, it was as simple as keeping an increasingly-shaky reticule in an increasingly-shrinking hole, but doing this amidst the realistic din of a bar that I couldve sworn I drank at in college was a really remarkable experience. Theres no denying that Los Santos is a dense, impressive creation. But those west-coasters never felt quite as real as the midwesterners of Watch Dogs.

The differences between WD and GTA are also evident once you get behind the wheel of a car with the police hot on your heels. Let me back up a bit you see, the police were after me because I accidentally pulled out an assault rifle on Navy Pier. A concerned citizen pulled out his phone and immediately dialed 911, explaining that some maniac was waving around an automatic weapon on Chicagos lakefront. Lucky for me, I managed to find the guy on the phone, snatch it away from him with a tap of a contextual action button, and smash it into a couple dozen pieces. The guy was innocent, so only his electronics got hurt. Were he an enemy, Aiden wouldve pulled out his baton and broken a few bones. But yeah, despite quickly quelling that incident, I didnt happen to notice that another person had also dialed 911, gotten through, and that those sirens I heard blaring down Lake Shore Drive were coming for me.

Cut to next scene, Im crashing down the streets surrounding the Sears Tower (I'll die before I call it Willis Tower) with a trio of Chicagos finest on my tail. In GTA, Id either find a Pay 'n' Spray or hope that my mediocre driving skills were enough to evade the police. Thankfully, Watch Dogs is built around the idea of Aiden and the player being in full control of the city. The moment before I zip through an intersection, Im able to hack the lights and make sure that its showing green in all four directions. I managed to whip a U-turn just in time to see one of the cop cars get caught in a massive pileup that was the direct results of my actions. But I didnt have too much time to gloat, considering two of the cars were still on my tail.

Aside from manipulating traffic lights from your phone, you can also raise and lower police barricades, as well as open and close garage doors scattered throughout the city. A well-timed rising barricade made quick work of one of the cars, which just left a single car in pursuit. I found a garage door, opened it, and closed it immediately as I sped through. But instead of continuing to run from the cops, I pulled into a parking spot, hopped out of the car, jumped into another one, and hit the O button on my DualShock 4 which made Aiden slink down and hide in the car. Eventually the cops made their way inside, but my hiding spot worked well enough to stump them into leaving the garage and calling off their search.

Where escaping from the cops in GTA feels like a roller-coaster ride of brute force, Watch Dogs seems to add multiple layers of strategy and options available to forge your own great escape.

The final bit of great, personal storytelling in my hour with Watch Dogs came when I attempted to infiltrate a communications center tucked away at the edge of Navy Pier. My goal was to make my way into a compound surrounded by a handful of heavily armored guards, hack into a cell phone to steal a password, and make my way to a computer terminal and gain control of the entire neighborhood. Since I had an assault rifle at hand, I tried to make my way in using brute force. Lets just say, that didnt go all that well. I managed to take out a handful of guards, but an overwhelming amount of backup was called in, and I eventually found myself overpowered.

Alright, so that wasnt going to work. Thankfully, missions in Watch Dogs play out similarly to those in a Hitman game, as they encourage experimentation and multiple routes to success. Using Aidens unique hacking abilities, I decided to try to complete the mission without ever even entering the building. This started with a quick hack of a security camera. From there, I could hop from camera to camera around the entire ring of the building. This sensation of swapping viewpoints felt incredibly similar to the great iOS game Republique. Eventually I found the phone

I needed to hack and did so remotely. With the first bit of info in hand, I decided to start causing some mayhem.

I spotted a fuse box that I could remotely detonate at the touch of a button. I waited for a guard to walk by and took him out in a massive explosion of sparks and smoke. His partners quickly rushed over to see what happened, which was when I spotted a specific guard whose cell phone camera was hackable. I jumped from the security camera to his phone, and once he resumed patrol, I was able to have a mobile first person view of the entire the compound. After a bit of waiting, the guard entered the room where the computer node was housed, and I jumped from the phone to the computer. The final step in this cyber invasion consisted of completing a series of hacking puzzles where I had to manipulate the intersections of a maze so that an energy wave could make its way from point A to point B. Though the concept was simple, it was just tricky enough to really pique my interest. And with that, I completed the mission without ever even entering the building in the first place. Its a new definition of stealth, and one that I cant wait to continue playing around with on May 27.

Watch Dogs is at its best when it separates itself from the mold that GTA created so many years ago. Yes, WD is a perfectly fine open world game filled with all of the successful pieces of Rockstars puzzle. But when Ubisoft eschews from the norm and empowers the player with NPC knowledge, control over the city, and multiple unique ways to get through a mission, Watch Dogs becomes a truly interesting experience filled the tools for us to tell our own unique and personal stories. You're exactly right, we're masochists who continue to play the game daily even thought we hate it. :rol:

Or maybe, just maybe, we continue to play the game because we DO enjoy it, but we're not helpless fanbois who think the game is flawless.

The game is fun, and I enjoy the heck out of it, but it's flaws are aparent to everyone but the R* apologists.

" Everything from Batman: Arkham City to Ubisofts own Assassins Creed has pulled from Rockstars rib."referring to GTA Clones and lastly this " Watch Dogs is at its best when it separates itself from the [mold] that GTA created so many years ago".Referring to the OW Genre GTA created not just Popularising or Revolutionising it.

anyways WD will be a good game and i will buy it.

Its incredibly choppy in V though. I saw a cop car attempting to spawn behind me and it's like it jumped to it's place, which was right behind me.

In IV, if you stayed a few seconds out of the search radius, the cops lost you and you lost your wanted level. In V, it takes like a minute.

I have fond memories of RDR, I love RDR with all of my <3.

Also, the weapon wheel just doesn't work in a modern setting. People pulling weapons out of their asses is unrealistic. f*cking rockstar.

GTA V leaves me cursing R* for a lot of the dumb decisions they made. I concur with everything OP says. Los Santos just feels EMPTY & DEAD with NOTHING to f*cking do. I still play in hopes they f*cking change their tune and change a lot of their sh*t.

This impression hit me after a few days of playing

3. Hikers, fishermen, planes, park rangers, bicycles, motorbikes, etc. always appear in the exact same spots.

What? As in:

Hikers always appear on mountain trails?

Fishermen always appear on fishing jettys?

Planes always appear in the sky?

Park Rangers always appear in National Parks?

Bicycles & Motorbikes appear on or near roads?

How can you possibly have a problem with this?

The OP is a [email protected] butthating for no reason, man i was shocked when some CoD Fanboys told me V was the Greatest Openworld Game Ever (and i am not lying) even my classmate who plays Fifa alot and as only Played SA told me he love GTA 5 i was just surprised.Tbh this forum is full of negatives.

This is why GTA fails. COD fans love online and are ruining online. Real GTA fans know this game has so many flaws.

The Cutter used in the Big Score Obvious approach can't be used again and the Elegy RH8 never spawns outside of the player's garage.

Unobtainable/hard to find vehicles are common throughout the series. GTA V is no exception.

GTA V still handles vehicles better than any of the previous games though (LCS handles them the worst for that matter) and I don't think that using the Cutter or the Merryweather Mesa as examples to defend GTA IV's vehicle spawning is fair as GTA IV doesn't even have vehicles comparable to those in the first place.

Here's the deal, if you two weren't such hardcore and blinded, ignoramus defenders of this video game, you'd be willing to accept that V is a more scripted game. This is not opinions, it is a fact as observations aren't influenced by opinion.

Considering the fact that you actually once said that GTA IV has better vehicle variety than GTA V, I don't think that you should be saying anything like that to people.

To me, I think it feels less "open world" because unless you're doing something in particular, there's not much going on in the world; wandering here or there doesn't really bring any sense of "I wonder what's going on over in this area." Because there isn't anything. Maybe I'm exaggerating a little, but not much.

I think the problem is people around these forums don't play gta v to enjoy it they play to find what's wrong with it or what other games did better

Personally, I don't think it's a "problem" - believe me, I wanted to love this game and spend an endless amount of time with it. But as I played it, I just found it dull, uninteresting, and do not feel compelled in any way to keep playing. Considering the pedigree, of course people are going to make comparisons. If this was the first ever GTA game and nobody knew Rockstar, I still think many of the complaints would be valid.

Weapon selection in IV was a pain. I think people complaining about the weapon wheel never played RDR or MP3. It's the one thing that they brought over from those games.

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Elders scrolls come out before GTA? That means GTA is a clone of elders scrolls. Both are open world but Elders just does it better.

Please point out the fact? All I'm getting at is Watch Dogs want to show the world they are not trying to be GTA but their own unique game.

he is an asshole, this has been already told him about no by just me, but several people. he is sucking GTA's cock so hard it is about to cum on his face.

EDIT: forgot to say that God Himself didn't made the real life, it it just a GTA CLONE. Sure great graphics, but not as close as a masterpiece as GTA V

redx is more into Naughty Dog's cock.

Not really, I just point out facts that Naughty Dog won more GOTY awards to prove to fanboys why V isn't as great. I don't beleive its the best game ever and it sure as hell ain't my favorite game.

The funny thing about this forum is Rockstar fanboys are ok to stay but anyone else has to leave cause they can't accept that their so called "MASTERPIECE" aka GTA V isn't that great.

Nobody said you have to leave. Nobody can dictate if or if not you have to leave, anyway. Anyway, the only huge fanboy here is Blood. Somehow, his word is fact.

@Redx

Yeah TES came out 3 years before GTA (1997) but the TES dev agreed

that GTA Changed the OW Genre Forever, and i can bet my money

WD will copy alot of GTA's Features even though it a "DIFFERENT GAME" with HACKING,lol i dont even think it will be a "GTA CLONE"

more like AC in modern days.

since TES 20 Years of Existance has it won a BAFTA Fellowship in "INNOVATION" for Bethesda?NO

GTA is only 17 years and it already winning a BAFTA Fellowship for Rockstar.

Bro i am sure TLoU will lose against GTA 5 in BAFTA GoTY (different from the fellowship btw) so stop D*ckriding Naughty Dog and stop calling Everyone a "GTA 5 Fanboy".If you love TLoU too much then go to it forum and STFU with replying to my post.

@daliakiller

I Dont Give A F*CK what you are saying. It only Pussies that start a comment with abuse,[email protected]

Where does it say I love The Last of Us? If you want to get aggressive I will do the same for you. Next post will make me decide which too do. I want to keep things civil as long as I can.

What the hell is BAFTA?

I can't really answer any of those questions until you tell me.

Your in no way to talk about fanboys seeing that almost every word in your post is some dick riding Rockstar comment. At least I try to change and do at times. You comment on every GTA hate topic with nothing good or bad to say. You just post a typical fanboy respond. I swear your worst than Rockstarfanboy and you truly deserve the title that he gots.

Half of my fanboy post is to f*ck around with Rockstar fanboys. Do you honestly believe I care about GOTY awards? Cause I don't but I love using that against fanboys like yourself.

Why do you think my title is "Making the GTA fanboys dance"?

You're my puppet so dance for me.
