$3.5 million in 3.5 minutes [a perspective]

I look at it like this, by purchasing a cash card you are buying time. Sure you can grind for a week and maybe accumulate $3.5 mil, and with a full time job and a family, that's not always an easy task and not the most enjoyable experience with the limited play time you have. Hence the term "grind". Or you can spend $50 in 3 minutes and have $3.5 mil GTA$ and use the rest of that time you would have spent grinding on having fun and actually enjoying the game. Sure there are some aspects where we all feel as though Rockstar is jerking us around a little, but at the same time I believe the concept of spending real life money in exchange for a fantasy currency is viewed a little too negatively. Rockstar doesn't force you to buy the cash cards indefinitely. Do they maybe cater or atleast try to influence you to buy them? Of course, what company in the world in 2014 doesn't try to capitalize every dollar? But again, it's not a must to play the game. They simply give you the option to either play and grind and use your valuable time trying to acquire funds, or buy a cash card and save your time and spend more time enjoying the game freely. At the end of the day, its 2014 and we are in America, well atleast I am, and nothing is given and nothing is truly free and time is money one way or another. I just think if you work hard and want to save time and spend a few bucks on some GTA$, as long as IRL your bills are paid and all necessities are covered of course, it just like anything else. You buy a car, you don't just drive it forever. You have to fill it with gas and maintain it and change oil meaning that if your going to continue to use it after the initial purchase, you're still going to have to keep spending money to continue to use and enjoy the product you bought. Just because it's a game shouldn't change that real world concept. JS

It's great isn't it OP? I bought the one just under it last night. Didn't really need the money, as I'd already bought everything and SP2MP'd the new cars before the patch dropped but it is always nice having that little extra.

I'm the type that likes to grind, but I work from home and only do about 15 minutes of work a day. I understand that most (at least my age) don't have the ability to grind. Thanks for buying though. It is the people like you that give us content. Kudos. I'll buy if we get a paid DLC with a new map and missions to contribute to the content. Until then, I grind.

LOL, hope your boss (if you have one) doesn't see that ;)

The rockstar cash card test

Purpose: to see if you are capable of buying cashcards

Supplies: fire, 5 hundred dollar bills (USD), yourself

Steps:

1. Create a fire

2. Put the hundred dollar bills into the fire

3. Try not to flinch

If you don't flinch then you might be a rockstar cashcard canidate

It's a game - The goal of which is to have fun. Did you have fun? If so, then mission accomplished. Personally, I will never buy a shark card. But, if we ever have to spend real money to get extra garage space, I won't be able to open my wallet fast enough. To each, their own.

I am surprised at the amount of positive responses... Good for you OP, glad you are having fun with the game and not bitching about stuff. While I am in it for the RP at the moment to unlock the heavy sniper, I at some point might divulge in a cash card.

Someone gets it!!!

Cash cards aint the devil. I've just never understood all the hate. fact is theres no real need to buy them. No one forcing you to buy them and the game is exactly the same wether you buy them or not. Its just a way to get things without all the time required. It dosnt unlock any perks and affects others far less than some cheating scumbag adding acceleration boosts to their vehicles .

I wanted to buy one of the new cars, I forget the name, but it the was most expensive one, I only had like $230,000 in the bank, man it sucks being a LVL48 player  , I dont mind and prefer to earn money but, I hate grinding, and that is not fun to me, I also dont have an endless supply to time to play, and to be honest, I have other interests then just this game

Besides, I always seem to get PSN money cards for every holiday, so I have had like $60 in my wallet just sitting there, collecting dust, might as well use it right ?

Now I am not saying I am "pro micro transactions", as long as they are not needed to continue game play, and they are strictly a side option that a player can use to add to the game, I am ok with

Says life is too short.

Opts to spend real cash to pay for virtual currency.

But w/e OP, thanks for keeping DLC free.

Actually, if you'd bothered to read all the other replies after my OP, you realize, "OP Says life is too short – opts to spend real cash to pay for quality entertainment."

But yeah, not only do you benefit from my support of Rockstar's continued development of this product, but so do I and everyone else in this forum. So, you're welcome! ;)

I think people are making too big of a deal out of the shark cards. They dont really give any advantage, and are almost completely just there for people who just have money and dont feel like grinding. Who cares if they want to spend 20 dollars or whatever to free up time on the game? Sheesh

Exactly. When World of Tanks came out for the 360 i thought i wouldn't need to buy gold since literally everything is there for the earning, but once i got to Tier 4 and saw how much XP i needed to get to the next level, in order to keep my job and be competitive, i needed to break down and buy gold. Spent 40 bucks on a game that only been out for 2 days and enjoyed every bit of it.

WoT is a free game, though. I can download it from their site for free. They need the money, more or less. And you can buy gold ammo with credits now. Also, the premium will make pretty much all your tiers generate profit (even 10), IF you`re not an idiot and die without firing a shot. Speaking of the PC version. Also, unless I`m missing something, gold won`t buy you XP, only cash. Sure, it can buy you free xp, but that is a very expensive business above tier 7. And since you spend the time to get said XP anyway, might as well play your actual tier 7+ and get normal XP.

GTA 5, however, sold for premium price = 60 bucks. Not exactly the same story.

[EDIT] Just for clarity: I am on your side, but I don`t think WoT applies here, since it doesn`t have a base price. That game is literally free. So, while it is implied that it would try and make money (there was a time when gold ammo was exclusive for gold and not credits - for a perfectly infuriating pay 2 win crap), this game (GTA) already made its money from initial sales.

They made it so you can basically farm XP with lower tier tanks and convert the XP for upgrades and high tiers. I pretty much maxed out the T18 and t1 Cunningham with equipment and premium ammo and went on a rampage for 2 days to give me enough xp to convert with gold to make it from tier 5 to 7 without much frustrating gameplay. Premium also gives you double XP each battle so 1st win in each class + Premium in a Tier 6 can net 50k+ cash and 30-40k xp. Real unfair for those going the route of no gold gameplay having to go against maxed out tanks with premium shells.

One of my thoughts when purchasing a card was how long would it last?

Well, in 2-3 days, I've already spent over $400,000 on new items, ammo, and insurance costs of other people's cars (not necessarily to my fault, either!).

After doing just one Survival with two other players, it cost over $20,000 to replace the ammo. A vehicle upgrade cost me upwards of $100,000 just for new tires, a paint job, turbo, etc.

I've done plenty of races and such to recoup some of that money, but seriously, has anyone here ever played a video game that required this much effort just to be able to access special features? Not me, I'll tell you!

I can hardly wait for the next DLC to come out! ugh!! (kidding!) ;)

LOL! But here... we've got a race weekend for you... don't you want that new Turismo?? Hmmm.... HMMM???

The new DLC tie-in with the Racing weekend was a devious ploy to make people want more money. I sincerely feel bad for the players just joining this game, now. How the heck do you make the kind of money needed to buy all the things that you want?

Also, I upgraded my first ever car in single player today (Buffalo). Holy schmoley! Why are the price differences between SP and MP so incredibly vast? $500 for skirts in SP are $5000 in MP?

That's just wrong, imho. :p

That is in for a long time. Plus, premium is a must if you don`t want to grind like a madman. I never paid past the premium and one premium tank, just so I can ditch some of my low level farmers and make room. I wasn`t ever in the business of converting XP, since it can get addicting and can end up eating crazy money. To each its own, I guess. Technically, you can live very well only with the premium.

Cash sink. Sucks, to be honest. The only thing they took from an MMO was the grind. Le LOL.

It's your cash to do with as you please. Personally, if I didn't earn the money in the game by playing it It's likely that I won't appreciate the items I buy in the game. I enjoy the challenge.

I agree entirely, and I also think it's true in real life - the kid in college who worked a part time job to grind for an old motorcycle probably gets more pleasure out of it than his spoiled classmate does in the new car daddy bought him!

However to contradict myself I think if you're cash rich and time poor why not spend a few quid to level the playing field a bit?

Seems like the consensus on here is you can be good at the game and suck in real life, or vice versa. I don't follow that logic!

Losers talk about working hard and doing their best...Winners go home and F^(k the prom queen. LOL I have been in both spots both in Game and IRL. My 2 cents take the nice stuff. If it comes easy so much the beeter. Too much in life is hard.

In real life, bills are paid, food is on the table, and gas is in the tank. I unexpectedly sold two extra units the other day, so I found myself with $50 bucks to spend on a new game. I went to the local Gamestop to see what they had, but nothing stood out.

So, instead, I decided to spend it on a Whale Shark card: $3.5 million.

With no concern of being chastised, banned, or having money stripped away by Rockstar, I feel as free as I did during the Great Gifting Gala of 2013.

I think if you understand that this was Rockstar's plan in the first place, you start to understand it and move in with the idea to customize your own experience.

We have two choices to earn money: Pay (takes minutes) or Play (grind for hour/days). I chose the easy, Pay route.

Cuz in the end, life is too short, and since I love the game, I'm willing to let go of a few extra bucks to support my entertainment.

I'm pretty happy. Are you?

You are correct ..it is up to you and it is your money and your time

I havent purchased a Shark card, Mainly because i found out how much fun i was missing out on when i had over a billion dollars and money was not an issue........3.5 mil is a lot, but will go fast once you start buying and upgrading cars...if you have all the unlocks done

Also could you imagine if you took that money and maybe....feed a homeless man with it? Maybe gave it to someone on the street. Donated it to a charity.

If everyone DIDN'T buy cash cards and gave it to a cancer Research Institute I bet we could cure cancer.

That is about a Dumb of a reply as it gets .........look in the mirror before you post something that can make a hypocrite out of yourself...... we all could had gave the money it took to buy the game in the first place to a Research Institute.......
