OP, you know me and my view points on these types of things so I wont bore you with a lecture. It's insidious to me the time limit production put on the Roosevelt, and it's price meant that for the average gamer, it took at least the entire month to earn enough in game credits to have one. Other then that, I'm not going to devalue their use as your points are valid.

Also could you imagine if you took that money and maybe....feed a homeless man with it? Maybe gave it to someone on the street. Donated it to a charity.

If everyone DIDN'T buy cash cards and gave it to a cancer Research Institute I bet we could cure cancer.

serious troll there

We have two three choices to earn money: Pay (takes minutes) or Play (grind for hour/days), or Glitch (takes minutes and it's free)

Fixed

Still a solid post though.

I could do that, or just glitch in franks buffalo to online every hour for an easy 140K.

serious troll there or rockstar could do that but I prefer it if they just kept the free DLC's rollin' in. That's why I support cash cards even if I don't use them personally. Yea you temporarily solved your money problem but what about rp or should I even mention fun. I just play missions, not grinding for hours type of missions because that sure as sh*t isnt fun but all of them. Hell, I'll even play some wacked out user created sh*t if I'm bored enough.

Microtransaction are ruining the gaming industry. I can remember a time when developers included everything that had been developed upon the release of a game. Now content is knowingly withheld and strung out over a long course of time for the sake of microtransactions. Case in point: GTAO. Why would they release substantial content at one time when they can string it out over months and months, making money all the while?

Picked up an Xbox one last week and it's the same sh*t with Next Gen, probably even worse. Forza comes with a minimum amount of cars and tracks and you are expected to pay money for additional cars and tracks, which probably should have been included at launch. Also, you don't pay a one-time fee that unlocks all cars and tracks--oh, no. You pay for packages that have 8 sh*tty cars for every nice one, just so that you have to buy them all.

This is the result of corporate greed infecting the gaming industry and it's only going to get worse. By supporting microtransactions, consumers are implicitly supporting these practices and corporations will continue along this course. The only thing that will stop this trend is a wholesale refusal on the part of gamers to participate in this pay-to-play strategy.

/perspective

this man gets it!

we shall take to the streets and rid the world of the evil that is microtransactions!

WHO"S WITH ME?!!

I completely and wholeheartedly agree with him, too. But, my point wasn't to comment on the state of the gaming industry or the trend of microtransactions.

My point was that Rockstar put out a product that is based on that micro-t system, and you can either embrace it or not face it, but either way, you cannot erase it.

Yes, I used rhymes to make my point, but I think it's valid. We may not like the trend of micro-t's, but it IS the way these companies are going, greed or whatnot.

I simply chose to make my own experience in the way I felt comfortable. If I didn't agree with it, I'd have said screw it and played Skyrim or something.

Oh wait... Skyrim has microtransactions, too. Nevermind. ;)

140K every hour X price of say...a Turismo (500K)= 4 hours. And that doesn't include add-ons, which will cost you more.Way to stick it to the man, genius. You could make that in a day playing or in minutes, as said...by buying a card. You impress no one.

In real life, bills are paid, food is on the table, and gas is in the tank. I unexpectedly sold two extra units the other day, so I found myself with $50 bucks to spend on a new game. I went to the local Gamestop to see what they had, but nothing stood out.

So, instead, I decided to spend it on a Whale Shark card: $3.5 million.

With no concern of being chastised, banned, or having money stripped away by Rockstar, I feel as free as I did during the Great Gifting Gala of 2013.

I think if you understand that this was Rockstar's plan in the first place, you start to understand it and move in with the idea to customize your own experience.

We have two choices to earn money: Pay (takes minutes) or Play (grind for hour/days). I chose the easy, Pay route.

Cuz in the end, life is too short, and since I love the game, I'm willing to let go of a few extra bucks to support my entertainment.

I'm pretty happy. Are you?

This is the problem.... people like you don't use your brain. You only see the small picture. And it's people like you that think these Shark Cards are ok (or even a good thing).

The cards are bad, whether you ignore them or not. They affect everything R* does with this game.

"R* does not force us to buy Shark Cards" That is the argument of a moron.

R* only fixes glitches (unless they are game breaking) that have to do with in-game money. Instead of making the game fun, they only focus on making sure the game is compatible with enticing people to buy Shark Cards.

I don't think I have to continue further.... if you're (whoever reads this) smart, then you agree and know what I'm talking about. If you (whoever) still think that Shark Cards are ok, that they aren't hurting anybody and R* isn't forcing us to buy them..... than there is no hope for you.

I think your the one missing the big picture. Games dont exist to entertain us. If they didnt make money then they would stop making them. To expect any company in any entertainment field to do ANYTHING other than what will be the most profitable would be the hopeless course. This will never change.

It should be said, too, that I feel much more relaxed about what I choose to do online, now.

Last night, two players in two new Turismos were trying to revenge killing me for sniping them, but I crouched behind the Life Invader building sign and came out with an RPG, blowing BOTH cars to bits. It was nothing short of pure entertainment!

Still, I find myself robbing stores more often, getting cars to Simeone more, doing more missions, and racing more. It doesn't feel like a chore, now. That's how it felt when I had the billions and it feels that way again. FUN and relaxing!

Just saying, is all.

Actually, yes, they do, because, ultimately, they are an entertainment product. Sure, nobody expects a game to be made for free, or being just given, but they DO exist to entertain us. And, just like poor entertainment, their popularity tanks, their target audience gets smaller and they go bankrupt. And no, I won`t shed a tear for a bad product. They should have tried better - I am happy to see the IP they drove into the ground given to a studio that might or might not revive it.

Us being entertained is the sourse of income. Taking our money is the goal. They exist because we fork over money for them.

To clarify my position, I agree that microtransactions are transforming the gaming industry in ways that do not benefit the gamer...they benefit the profit margins on games. I don't support them just as I do not watch any proffessional sports because I think all the players are overpaid, items and food are overpriced and tickets could be much lower if they were paid like normal people and employees that they are. I have not been to a game in 30 years. I have never paid for a microtransaction in any game. I deal with whatever I can get for free.

To say that people claiming that rockstar is not forcing people to buy cards though are morons is 100% incorrect. Sure Rockstar is going to do everything possible to make the cards seem like a good choice but that in no way forces anything. I have over 750 hours in game and have never once considered buying one. There is no need. They have provided many ways to avoid them.

That's actually the problem with development of modern day games Luap. More and more game makers are being controlled by people who are more concerned with making money than they with making games. It's the same reason that back in the 60's and 70's you had so many great musicians where today everything looks and sounds like cookie cutter corporate monkeys that make music...

It's actually a problem in the industry. I make games as a hobby myself and I feel like I probably put more effort in my creations than some of EA's biggest titles. Once upon a time games WERE created to entertain. That was the point of making games, if it was entertaining enough you'd make money from it.

What ever glitches exist then or now is not a sub stainable way to make money. Yea you can get cars from sp then next week the "omg are they going to take my cars and money" threads appear

I agree with OPs premise of not having to worry about rockstar dicking with their characters garage or bank. I have not bought a cash card would consider it based on value proposition. Lets say for example the release a mansion for 3mil. I'd drop real cash on that because it would enhance my game by giving me garage space (if it gave 20 slots). That in turn would give me hours of additional playtime and motivation to collect the cars and mod them out.

I also look at real life entertainment costs. How much fun does 50 bucks get you in the real world? Casino, dinner, hooker? I'm pretty sure not more than a few hours. An hour for dinner, 5 min with a hooker (it's sensitive) and maybe 3 hours playing penny slots or 30 min playing poker (I suck check my RDR stats)

this is how i feel about WWE 2k14, they make you play through the terrible wrestlemania mode to unlock reskins of different wrestlers which you don't have time to do unless you're going to be in the house all day, but there is a shortcut! for $2.99 you can buy your way to this freedom! or buy some wrestlers for $5! Or if you want to download content that other people submitted, you're going to have to buy the $20 season pass as well!

f*cking ridiculous

I dont undersand why people dispise cash cards.

A) no one is holding a gun to your head forcing you to purchase them

B) those who do purchase them (willingly) are making R* money. R* is a business. And like any business they want to make money.

So good for you OP for doin the cash card thing. Ive looked at them a few times thinking of buying one. I just might if they bring out a limited edition car thats worth having.

So, if I would have a friend that just started the game, I can`t set him up. He will HAVE to earn the money to buy an Entity, if he wants to race. I can have millions, I still can`t give him one cent, directly. And frankly, I don`t give a sh*t about WHY I can`t - the only fact is this: 5 months after the game launched, I CANNOT share legitimate money to another player.

No one is forcing me, but it makes it awfully hard for me to share my money if I want to...

Sorry, but like when the game first came online, we all had to earn our way up the ranks. I had an Adder and an Entity, as well as the $300,000 apartment long before the Gifting Gangs made their way onto the scene. How'd I get it? I bore down on racing, missions, and survivals. I saved every in-game dime and paid it out to enjoy those items, for myself.

So, if you had a friend that just started the game, he should set himself up. Why should he receive a charitable donation from another player? Sure, I get your point about sharing your money, but isn't that where the whole Gifting Gala of 2013 stemmed from... a friend setting up his friend with a couple of million to, y'know, get started? We all see where that mess went.

Just saying. ;)

As others have said, it's your money; disposable income is just that. It only riles me up when people use money they haven't got to finance this stuff - if someone's complaining that they couldn't feed themself last week but splashed out on a Shark card then sorry, that's not the way life works.

But if it's money you have spare (you lucky person!) then I don't see how it's any different than buying say, a new pair of jeans or a DVD or something. It's something you're going to enjoy.

Personally, I wouldn't because I don't have that kind of money to spend. Still. Enjoy your 3.5 mil.
