what is the difference of slipstream and catch-up?

Slipstream is drafting. When you tuck in behind someone and ride the draft off their line. It basically pulls you along and speeds you up so you can "shake and bake" around them to gain a position.

 

Catch up is a feature in races that allow people

Who have crashed or flew off course to catch up to the pack to still have a chance to compete with everyone.

Calling it a slipstream to begin with is being generous. It's more like a damn space vacuum, the way it launches people ahead when your 70 ft behind the guy.

Slipstreaming allows you to use a vehicle ahead to minimize drag of your vehicle and consequently achieve higher than normal speeds. This is based on real life physical phenomenon.

 

Catchup slows the lead player's vehicle so that others can.. well.. catch up. This is not based on any real life physical phenomena.
