GTA:O Character name, what happened?

Does anyone remember when you first created a user for online during the first few weeks of GTA:O it asked you to name your character, well whatever became of that?

It's still there, on the character select screen.

I don't have a character select screen. Only got 1 character.

I think it was all part of customisation, just another thing to personalise your character.

This was something to name your character, When I created my character on the weekend of Online release it said name your character, say billy jeff blah blah blah but it does not show this to any of the other players just your PSN so what was the point if its never used.
