Why the Hate for Slipstreaming?

Why do people tend to hate slipstreaming so much? It is basically drafting, and has it's basis in physics. So, it is realistic. Is it over done? Maybe. But I just don't get all the hate for it, other than maybe people exploit it to quickly catch up to the leader. I don't mind it being an option now, but everyone around here seems to hate it.

It's a very mild effect in reality though and you have to be VERY close.

I've been racing friends without it (or catch up) on tonight and it's so much better - you're not punished for being in the lead and those behind have to actually drive better to catch up. Most fun I've had racing in this game...

Because racing should be based on driving skills, not your ability to abuse slipstreaming to catch up and ram people off the road.

People like to blame their race loses on it.

People don't like to lose.

People don't like a challenge.

People want to use the fastest car in the class and hope others don't have one so they can easily beat everyone.

It gives bad racers that you've already outmaneuvered a chance to catch up and pit you. Since they get a huge speed boost, they'll smash into you at a speed that makes it very hard to avoid crashing.

You can it abuse it to steal a win. But I don't hate it.

Catch up is the super garbage in races. sh*t need to go or be fixed

What's more fun, being neck to neck at the last part of the race, or slowing down so the other player gets ahead, then abusing slip stream to win the race?

Because effectively using slip stream has nothing to do with driving skill.

They did note in the patch notes that catch up is disabled if there is only one checkpoint left :)

So now they time their pass for the last checkpoint, instead of the finish line.

But racing in this game is far too easy. When features like slipstream are turned off, whoever manages to avoid being taken out at the start will simply stay in the lead and win comfortably.

Totally agree. The slipstream is a bit more than reality, yes, but it doesn't make such a big difference. The catchup is what screws up all the races and makes most people able to even come in the slipstream at all.

Far too easy how? You will see with slipstream and catchup off that little minor corrections you have to make really cost you. If you can take the corners smoother and actually drive the right lines you will win. Or drive like an asshole who can take the corners any way you want because you know you can catchup or slipstream right up to somebody... Not anymore. You're about to see what it means to have to actually drive correctly and not just like a wild man all over the track. I do think it will make random idiots try to spin you out even more now though. Which will be great, because those people won't just be able to catch back up to the pack now. It will change the way people race.

I like that I can turn it off, I would've liked it more if I could set it to "low." Cut the distance in half (or more) and the speed boost by half.

Nah.. Its basically a turbo boost that happens when behind a player. When and where it kicks in depends on your connection to the player. If it worked like drafting id actually like it, but it doesn't.

I personally don't enjoy my speed getting f*cked with. I don't need slip stream sucking me toward players asses while im trying to slow down and make turns.

With it off.. racing is fun. I can just worry driving instead of wrestling with slip stream.

this i agree with, i like that slipstream is there, but its distance and the fact it still works round corners where you wouldnt be in a draft IRL makes it annoying... it should have been adjusted as well as made optional..

definitely makes for more challenging racing having it switched off but thats not to say it doesnt have its place if it was used correctly by the developers...

defaintely think tis carving the way for a Fast and Furious style DLC with nos additions in LSC though... everythings becoming more definable than it was at launch and adding nos options would be cool.. R* could easily add a nos options using the existing gta race "boost" mechanic, but have a 3 stage optin purchasable at the LSC, with each stage giving you 1 use of the NOS boost. Inital cost could be 10k fitting, then 3k stage 1, 5k stage 2 and 7k stage 7 (so total of 25k for full nos setup)

. After youve used your three nos boosts you would have to go back to LSC for a refill (like repairs) charged at 3k per tank

in races they could preset that if customs is on and NOS is on, then catchup and slipstream are OF and cant be changed... If Customs is On and Nos is off you can still use your custom whip but L3 wont do anything.... For GTA races it would work in the same way it does now, but if you ahve nos active you start with 3 sts of nos and boost pickups act as a refill...

Both catchup and slipstream add to the fun in races with friends, in random races they generally just cause for massive irritation as I can usually blaze ahead of the pack until some rando in a chrome car begins to ram me from behind negating any "skill" I might have by maximizing gameworld advantages.

Races are most fun when you're duking it out for a position, not when you're simply blazing down the road wondering how long it'll take a jackhole in a Fruffalo to smash you off the track because he's drafted from last to 2nd.

It's way to overdone, and you can't counter it. It feels like if you go into someone's slipstream, you suddenly go twice as fast.

Because GTA is a racing simulation game and the effect of slip streaming in the game is highly unrealistic...but don't remove the ability to correct the cars positioning whilst in the air we want to keep that unrealistic part in this driving simulator.

How do you skilstream?

You have to press Y or triangle when right behind the car in front.

Any questions let me know,

super cereal racers get butthurt when a guy in an Infernus beats them in a race...

The only thing I don't like about Slipstream, is being able to slipstream virtually in mid air and the fact that a Sandking can slipstream off of a Sanchez...Other than that I don't mind it at all.

No one is claiming GTA is a 'racing simulator'.... So the rest of your post is null. GTA has always had racing.

Also.. your sig just stinks of "troll GTA racers'...

Catchup sucks its like it slows down the leader.

Slipstreaming is used in real racing (drafting) although its quite exaggerated in game. It can be countered by blocking, you can look back ya know.

:p

There's nothing to counter catchup and I back out most of the time when I see catchup on.

Host your own race how you chose, then there is no whining if you don't win.

Well except for that smash and bash thing. But again there are counter offensives to that to.

Learn em.. :p

Slipstream is good and adding the race a fun unless the one at behind use it to try o push you out from your way instead of trying to overtake you...
