Marty892
I still play GTA IV more than V. Driving physics are lame and so is the damage. This is my opinion. If others enjoy the game good =P Same here. after 5 years I still enjoy pointless driving around the city in IV. Driving is really lame, feels like toy cars on train tracks, complete lack of weight (well, physics overall), stupid acceleration and the most important; almost every car feels the same, besides few like Futo. Damage is actually improved over IV, but every car is like a tank now, it takes much longer to destroy it. That's the only issue with V for me. Other than that, it's fine. matajuegos01
Smith John
Sorry but I have to disagree in the part of the story, Drunken cowboy didnt even pay attention to the story. Wanna know why? He didnt even know why Trevor was helping Michael with the whole FIB stuff even though it was pretty clear and Trevor repeteadly said it himself! I lost my credibility on him since that point. GTA V's story was mediocre, weak, and for most part kinda boring. And it had very poor structure too. Just give it up. Translation: -"I hated this game because it didn't centre itself around ghettos and gangbanging enough. Because of this, it was so terribly written and structured, and didn't have any themes or direction to it. Who cares about good gameplay when we have a story that doesn't fulfill my own personal desire and fantasy, and instead chooses to tackle a new form of criminal enterprise. Also, I can't believe they gave us a stinky protagonist who refuses to shampoo his hair twice a day; we should've had a catwalk model who makes sure to freshen his breath and have his finger nails protected before jacking a car. This is my opinion. Now you must bend over and share it with me via my penis your arse" No offence General, but this is pretty much how I've seen 90% of your posts in the last five months. The reason I didn't like the story wasn't because "it didn't centre itself around ghettos and gangbanging".. the reason I disliked the story was because it gave us a character that was apparently apart of the 'ghetto' and 'gangbanging' lifestyle, but it was done so poorly that it didn't even feel like he was part of any of that. It feels like R* tried to do it, but rushed Franklin out of it so fast that it didn't make any sense. I'll update the op with a few other things I wanted to cover later, since I never finished it fully last night as I was pretty tired. I'll update the op with a few other things I wanted to cover later, since I never finished it fully last night as I was pretty tired. So much this. Franklin, in the end, served no real purpose. Of course, he set the events of the story in the motion and his decision is what closed it, but the meat of the story and the game - what really mattered - was the relationship between Michael and Trevor. Franklin could have been our gateway to Los Santos' criminal underground. Through him, we could see how LS gangs operate, conflicts between them, etc. Better to have him dragged back against his will by Lamar or Tonya or someone, than have him sit in his mansion for most of the game. Same could be pretty much said about Trevor too - has V really done Blaine County's organized crime justice? The Lost are dispatched in two missions, the Aztecaz in other two, O'Neills and the Chinese appear in, like, three missions too. And yet, both Stretch and Cheng are among main antagonists the trio takes out in final mission. Did they really impact the protagonists as much as other secondary villains in the past, such as Big Smoke, Mendez, Lance Vance or Jimmy Pegorino? It's not about pleasing "SA babies". If V focused on organized crime Trevor and Franklin were part of along with Michael's FIB troubles, it would have made for much richer and entertaining gameplay experience and it would have given T and F much needed screen time and character development. Right now, we ended up with what IV + Episodes would be, if Johnny's and Luis' stories and gameplay options were reduced to fragments making backdrop to Niko's revenge quest. Lethal Vaccine
Why does people like the driving in IV more than V, I don't understand. Don't get me wrong, I love IV driving, and have been playing IV as well the past week and put GTA V down for a break until this new DLC comes on March 4th, but in GTA IV, the cars took SO long to actually stop. The breaks felt like the cars were tanks and took 10 seconds to come to a complete stop. Also, I love drifting in IV and V, equally, but if you apply the handbrake in IV and turn 90 degrees, you'll slide at least 50 feet it feels like. I like this, actually, but to me THAT isn't realistic at all. There is good points and bad points with every GTA game, but I don't get the hordes of people obsessing over physics and driving mechanics and comparing IV and V all the time, it's just flat out un-needed. Also some people like arcade type of games. I personally rather drive in GTA III, Vice City, San Andreas, and GTA V over GTA IV due to the reasons I said above, you slide waay to much in cars and you can't slow down for sh*t! Also, when going around a turn at a pretty decent speed, the cars do NOT turn, you ALWAYS gotta use the E-Brake to turn in GTA IV if you're going a decent speed. The map itself in GTA IV is not so good, too, because every f*cking 10 feet ends the road you're driving on and you must turn. I know that is how cities are in real life, but that is why I don't like the city in GTA IV, OR real life. I like how V has so much open space and wider roads and you can have some f*cking breathing room to drive. In IV you didn't have any room to drive and there would always be so many cars stopped at stop lights and stop signs. It was so congested in IV, that it's possible that ped vehicles would knock your saved cars out of the reserved parking spaces outside of your safehouses. At least in the PS2 era games, and V, there is actual garages so your cars won't magically get knocked out of their spot and disappear.

Lethal Vaccine
You're right ^^^ I've learned to drive in GTA IV, but it takes a lot more skill than ANY GTA game to date. And you're also right about braking. Tapping the brakes helps slow down a lot better. Whereas holding them just makes you slide 50 feet before coming to a complete stop, very strange, lol

As I said above it all comes down to preference. Driving physics are very feel and touched based. I still have a blast driving in GTA IV like I did 5 years ago. Even after 5 months GTA V hasn't convinced me it has better driving physics. Edited March 1, 2014 by SonOfLiberty
Camsterguy
Like others said in the post, we expected a game that would shatter (or at least meet) our extremely high expectations. I'm not saying it's a bad game, it's truly my all-time favorite game , but judging from the hype the trailers generated, we really thought we could get more out of it. The only things I miss from IV are the ragdoll physics and the vehicle damage (I love the 'hardness' of vehicles in V and how they roll over down hills, but deforming your car should require less force) Lock n' Stock

Johan
Since we're excluding Online here I guess I can give it a bit more praise than the overall experience. Single player was alright, IMO was nothing near the excellent story GTA IV had. Matter of fact, most of the characters are totally forgettable. It's very short but R* filled almost every mission with enjoyable moments, to the point where it felt like I had a favorite sequence in each one of them whenever I use the replay feature. The background music during gameplay is a great welcoming, can't say the same about the radio stations. Driving physics are okay, once I got used to them they never bothered me anymore.. but it's still my least favorite in the series. Last but not least, I'm not sure how to fully explain this but the game somehow felt very limited compared to the GTA IV or San Andreas in terms of gameplay, no matter how many features they added.. it felt like if this was any of the older games, I would have had much more fun. I'll give it a 7.5/10, I listed many negative things but I'd be a fool to say that I didn't enjoy the story for what it was, just wish I didn't waste 2 years hyping up the game. SmoothGetaway
A couple of things: The story was indeed clipped a bit short in spots but I think this is in response to people not completing IV. I think it was something like less than 25% of players finished Niko's story (according to Social Club). Either way they do the story last, and it shows this time around. The endings could have been broken up more and same with the game prior to gaining access to all three characters. Also there is the ability to switch cover but, like in most R* games, it's explained once and left up to the player to remember. Nice post. I didn't spend every waking moment looking for hidden details that weren't there. I wasn't "Jizzing in my pants" (This was a thing) after every trailer. Let me give you an example: The Kingdom Hearts series is my favorite game series ever. EVER. So, this was me when they announced Kingdom Hearts 3. Being excited and hyped for a game is different than being obsessed with a game and having unrealistic expectations. I think the amount of people who finished IV is so low, in part because of mission repetitiveness (fixed in V) and the story dragging on and on (also fixed in V - maybe too much), but mostly because I think the general population simply still doesn't play GTAs and pretty much games in general for the story. GTA sells as much as CoD. And how many people don't even touch CoD's singleplayer and go straight to MP? For many people, GTA is still just that game where you can steal cars and shoot cops. And that's really all what they do. They don't care for the story, they don't even want to experience some fun missions, which is okay, until it hurts people who do. I don't know stats for V, but how many people actually finished it? I think it'll be just a little higher than in IV. TheGodDamnMaster
Of course there are things disappointing about it when the game is hyped up by R* to be the next big thing. I wouldn't say I was disappointed though. I have a good number of gripes with the game, but nothing too glaring. -The radio is a mixed bag, equally great and equally garbage. East Los FM, Fly Lo FM, Channel X and the talk stations are all trash. The other stations are mostly good and there are some real gems (Radio Gaga, Convoy, Party All The Time, etc) -The map is too big for its own good. Too many underutilized areas, like the military base, prison, power plant, all of the islands, the underwater sections, Chumash, and Mount Gordo. The use of these areas in Online does NOT count in my view. -I actually think the gunplay is a step-down from IV. I hate how lock-on isn't permanent anymore, and they removed the ability to target specific body parts and see enemy health/armor. -Businesses are more of an annoyance than a pleasure. They generate money for nothing and have minimal player interaction aside from defending them and being an errand boy. -The story is mediocre. Franklin shouldn't even exist because his story was so rushed and uninteresting. The "villains" weren't really intimidating (I thought Steve Haines was funny some times) either. Aside from these issues, I really enjoyed the game. 9/10. I really hope R* is paying attention to the feedback they've been getting about the game like they did with IV where they responded with The Ballad of Gay Tony. Official General
I agree with the stuff you said about GTA V, but I'm very baffled as to how you can think it still deserves a 9/10 score with all the flaws and shortcomings you have mentioned about the game. Especially when the game had less interiors than GTA IV, something you forgot to mention. I gave it an 8/10 initially, but on more thought, I've decided to revise it down to a 7.5/10. 8 is a bit too generous.
