I was just thinking about the many threads/convos on how much GTAO sucks, and by extension, R* (and Take Two)

While I do agree there's some issues, I wonder if it's us being too picky or the gaming world just trying to hard (producers).

I mostly only play games with online elements.

The most recent NHL 14 from EA? A ton of bitching in that community and plenty of threads that resemble the ones here ('they suck' 'money grubbing' 'returned it' 'never playing again' 'they hate their customers' yada yada yada). While I don't play them, I believe FIFA and Madden has some of the same complaints

Next up, Battlefield 4; again, a lot of the same sentiments over there on the boards, maybe not as bat-sh*t crazy, but I've learned the GATO peeps are a passionate bunch. Again, to this day there's still a sh*t ton of problems with that game from freezing, to invisible players, gun/vehicle balancing and more. In fact, I came here from the BF4 world a few months ago myself as it was getting a bit too much.

And the much awaited "Second Assault' maps? A bit of a let down imo. I can just 'see' what's going to happen around here when the heists final land, if they're not what everyone's expected (and I doubt they will be due to the massive anticipation that's built up.. )

And what about Elder Scrolls Online? My son was part of the beta-testing crew so we have it installed here at my house... and well... he freaked out when they first gave him access, but it didn't last long. He was back playin GTAO in short order. Methinks there's gonna be some pissed of peeps that per-ordered that fckn thing. While I didn't play it, I was watching some and it's probably not as advertised.

Soooooooooooooooooooo

Do we expect too much? Or are game developers just getting pushed around by corporate and putting less than perfect games out there? I really don't know at times.

I am far from bored of GTAO at this point and in fact, kinda love the sandbox. I found the issues mentioned above with other games, to be far more frustrating than the ones on GTAO, but the community here seems to be far more rabid than those ones.

Ok... that was about it. Feel free to post yer "cool story" gifs and other crap like "didn't read" now... Or hey, you could always jump into the convo too... a novel idea...

Interesting point you make about other games but its true I'm a member of other forums and all the bitching is the exact same! Maybe we think that updating a game with new features is an easy task, but what if its actually harder to do? I don't think Rockstar get any corporate pressure unlike EA.

I've a question...Do you work for Rockstar?

Oh fer sure... they pay me to hang around here with ya'll nutters. But they have to pay me REAL well.... it's dangerous 'round these parts....

Yea, I know there was some leaked stuff on Reddit about EA pushing DICE to get things out before COD... but still lol... game's not even close to fixed.

But Take Two is the corp taskmaster for R* and at the end of the day they're gonna care more about the shareholders (who will ACTUALLY sue them, unlike users that just talk about it) than the players.

And yes, there is a common 'thread' among the various boards I am on for diff games. But I think if they (game makers) dumb it down to ensure a stable product, that the user base would complain about that. So I am torn between corp greed and users that might be expecting too much. Not sure...

See above... I tend to agree to some degree with that.

Almost everything is verbatim to here pretty much.

Pretty funny the only two gaming forums I visit are this one and EA-NHL. This game may have some flaws to it, but at least it's new and some are being addressed.

EA and the NHL, hell Madden series too for that matter has been the same bag of dicks since 03. Yet all the sheep (myself sadly included) keep wanting those dicks. NHL has serious game engine flaws.

The modern gamer expects waaaaaaaaaaaay too much. Not to date myself, but I've been a part of every gaming "generation" there's been in the existence of console gaming, from the Atari 2600 up to this very day and moment, and I can say that while companies are to be blamed as well for releasing "broken" and "rushed" games, but nowadays the sense of entitlement in the gaming community as a whole borders on the level of insanity.

It's okay to want something, or want something changed, or want something done differently, but the IGC (Internet Gaming Community) knows not of the ideals of common decency and constructive criticism.

No wonder I can't stand to be around most people. We complain about the cold during winter, and about the heat during summer.

My humble opinion is that the majority of the people who post on forums for games are the ones that are unhappy about something or looking for specific information posted by the third group which is the ones that post any and all types of actual information.

Group 3 is small, very informed and usually either very defensive of the game because they love it and invest time documenting its features...or the opposite and post every concievable way to break it.

Group 2 is fairly large but usually less vocal and pretty clueless just looking for quick answers to something.

Group 1 is the big one. Like feedback reviews on a shopping site most people who comment are the ones who had problems with something. They let this negativity build until everything about the game sucks. 10 million pieces of a game and if it has 100 bugs and issues the whole game is garbage, the devs are worthless sh*t and the company is a greedy sh*thouse. In general this makes the forum full of angry mob mentality, self justifying, instant gratification, nothing is ever good enough, entitled individuals...while the majority of the regular players, people who are pleased with the game, enjoy themselves, are blisfully unaware of a lot of the problems or are patient enough to know that those problems will be fixed at some point...are busy playing the game and hardly even know the forum exists.

Yea I hear ya brother... I'll be 48 on Sunday (we'll have a blast filming the GTA Olympics on Sat... lots of BEER!) ... I remember the dawn of gaming as well as a world before it. And I think there's an element of the online portions being harder to deploy than single player. Between sheer size of the user base and the increasing need for more complex games, (added to corp pressure etc) it's gonna happen. I have learned to not expect perfection. I just want somewhere new my friends and I can have some fun... which is what I'm doing with GTAO

LOOOOOOL.... ehm... don't happen to live in Ontario do ya? We get that a TON here. Given the way the winters can be, I rarely complain about the heat.

Excellent analysis really... makes a bit more sense when I consider Group 1. Me? I often find that I am on the forums to learn a bit more about the game in question, but more often than not, to meet others with a shared passion to play the game with. Most of the folks of the 50 or so GTA peeps on my FL, came from here. I have maybe a dozen or so friends I play with that we came over together from other games.

I love NHL 14 and FIFA 14. They are simply too hard for the average NHL 94 Button presser now... which is why they get negative feedback. I cannot begin to tell you how many people I know that hated them, watched me play them, joined in, and ended up loving both games. By far the best sports games out right now are FIFA and NHL..

Skyrim is the same as WOW in my book. I stray far from that nerdery.

BF4 has always been the same as COD, just different playing styles. same types of players. I am sad to see them go, but happy for what they produced (Titanfall). I am sure the battlefield purist will find a combat game with maps bigger than they need eventually. I have always thought this: Either you want to play a quick fps like COD that is fast pace, or you simulate like ARMA. Battlefield is a horrible rendition between the two, and somehow players assume it is more "realistic" than Call of Duty. one word, parachute. okay two words, parachute, and impossible.

So what of those who Love a game, lets say GTA, and hate the features, Online, of it. Or how about people who love a game, but hate the people who turn it into something much more serious, or cheat, or spam mics, or anything else online players have the ability to do.

Seems we roll in some of the same worlds brother....

NHL 14, love it myself. If anything it was some of the peeps that take it too seriously that kinda took the fun out of it (was in a club etc...). Same I guess to a degree with BF4, the stat whores that freak out when they lose a match, or sit on the outside of the map sniping cause of their precious K/D... meh... I like to have some fun when I play. Sure, winning is great, but it's not really why I am gaming. Having fun is first and foremost (life has enough stress, ya know?). But in some of the other online game modes (like HUT) there's a lot of bickering over the way the systems work... lag... etc.

Battlefield - I was a huge BF player in BC2 and BF3, I feel a bit of a let down with BF4 as some of the better features disappeared and the massive issues with lag (yay for levolution) and outright freezing, started to wear on me... (as well as the aforementioned peeps that take it faaaaar too seriously).

Anyway, I haven't felt the 'issues' around GTAO are as bad (for me at least) as they are with BF4, so I am probably gonna keep playing it predominantly. I do love having friends that play them all tho... nothing more fun than playing a few games of stick, hopping onto BF for a few maps of running and gunning... then moving on over to GTAO for some random madness all in the same night (usually kinda drunk by the end, so GTAO is a great place to end up)

Yea I am just waiting for them to catch up on next gen, same with hockey. I have to play GTA and Hockey on my room mates 360 in his room! two of the best games out! I gotta say, If I ever do play GTAO again when it does come out for Xbox One/PS4, It will be all private session and only to check out the new content. I hope they regain focus on Single Player GTA.

oh, I played NHL the other night on Co-op... wow, I never got beat so bad. All pro, the second you take your eyes off that defense man in the shooting zone, it's a goal. I think we quit at 1-5... .Fifa is another story, Co-Op will get you offsides a bunch, but makes passing for those goals much easier.

Especially those who want to bitch about the cash cards. My buddy spent several HUNDRED dollars on Fifa online, failed to ever get Team of the Week black cards (for those who have played fifa). Black cards are basically the special cards with higher stats. Considering how much time, effort, and money I saw him put into it that was a joke compared to gta. I understand it's a random draw but I have NBA 2k and it's pretty much impossible to have a lineup of all gold players without spending minimum of $20. Not to mention you pay salaries/contracts which causes you to spend even more

Having come from BF3 and BF4, it makes me laugh to read some of the whiners around here complaining about the relativily small issues GTAO is having, now.

(initially, GTAO was busted bad, but R* did well in resolving and giving people the incentive as a mea culpa)

You people think this is bad, go out there and spend sixty bucks on BF4 and get back to me.

Oh my.... yea man. Was always premium on BF ($50) and then was lazy and unlocked the guns/vehicles cause I didn't want to wait, (another $20+?). And playing HUT (Ultimate Team) and boost paks on NHL? Yikes... don't even get me started... in the hundreds at least.

I have no probs with micro-transactions. Ya don't like 'em? Don't use em. Seems fairly simple to me. I make a pretty good living and if I wanted to... I would.

Sh*t copies of GTA alone I am in a few hundred as there's me, my two sons, my daughter and now my WIFE playing the fckn thing. (we have 4 Xboxes on 4 TVs). With BF my two sons play.... soooooo... gaming is a bit expensive around my house as U might imagine.

But hey, we live the small town life, need something to do in these Canadian winters other than the bar... And tbh, I used to spend a few hundred in a night easily in the bar... games? I get 200-800hrs from them. It's a deal if ya ask me.

Forums in general really aren't that representative of a game's player base. Generally speaking, those who are having a good time with a game usually don't have a whole lot to say on message boards, aside from tutorial, GameFAQ style questions, meetups and the like. These days you get a clearer picture of how a game is doing by watching Twitter and Facebook

Those who come to a forum not affiliated with the company to complain about a game are more or less a subset of a subset. The squeakiest wheels, so to speak.

I dont think we expect too much at all.

When we the community come together and hand over a billion dollars to a game maker I think a game without bugs and glitches it not too much too ask for.

You can feed entire countries with a billion dollars. sh*t you could probably buy a dam country with a billion dollars. All we are asking for is a video game that works lol
