Catchup is for Bitches

Whether you approve of or like CATCHUP or not, I don't think many could say that it makes the races boring!

 

I love entering a race confident I am going to be quite competitive, and certain there's going to be some overtaking action, each and every time I line up on the grid.

 

personally, and its only my opinion, it doesnt make races boring as such, it does tighten the pack..

 

my problem with it is its like training wheels, racing is a matter of practice and skill.... so much like never taking the training wheels off your childs bike means they wont ever ride on two wheels and ejoy the extra speed and exhilaration , if you never progress to catchup off then you wont improve as a racer, losing only drives good racers to get better, to watch the guy in front and try and get better line sin corners and better timing for overtakes...

 

as a whole catchup means that the racing community isnt as good as it could be if we all conceded that losing is a reason to get better and practice... what catch up does isnt make races boring, it makes racers boring... in my opinion...

I get where you're coming from, just that I don't see it as being a tool only for those without skill.

 

I've already said somewhere in this thread that I consider myself a decent racer, without being anything special, but that I am also pretty confident I'd win MORE races with catchup OFF than I do with it ON. It's not a training wheels thing at all for me, it's a balance thing that stops me or someone else from just leading the race from start to finish - yeah that's skilled and well done to them, it just seems a lot less exciting to have it go like that all the time, than to constantly have tight races with over taking happening regularly.

 

I'd much rather have a lower win/loss ratio in exchange for more exciting races, which is exactly what catchup gives me.

 

You are right, it gives rubbish racers a higher chance of winning than perhaps their skills deserve in a real sense, but that's something I can live with if it means the pub races I take part in are consistently more exciting and unpredictable.

It's a game mechanic meant to ensure races full of semi skilled randoms stay close and exciting. If first corner crashers had no chance of catching up they'd simply disconnect, and how would you earn tuning mods if the first one out of the first corner ended up soloing all the time. I think it works well with randoms on little known tracks but is poor when you're racing "properly" with similarly skilled people. I do quite enjoy the feeling of godlike skill as you carve the corners whilst artificially slowed, not so impressed when someone catches up because I'm slowed then slingshots past at the end on slipstream! I'm a pretty poor racer mind you, only earned turbo a couple of days ago!

As I understand, if there were two good racers neck and neck in front, catchup would not kick in. It's only for the case where one guy is going to drive the next 7 miles of the race as a formality, while the rest of the pack continues to ram each other a couple miles behind. And they can't leave the race because they get bad sport warning. Woot, Now that's racing.

1.) 'Whiney' players are the ones complaining about getting wrecked or crashing and expecting to still have a shot at winning. . Why not just deal with it? Theres always next race.

 

 

2.) You don't get bad sports for quitting races. Infact it takes like 3-5 quits in a row to even get a mild warning.

 

 

 

For me, il leave all pub races in straight lines with catch up ON. No point, its not a race.

 

 

I can see your point about players ramming each other then back But thats why its so important to get away from them as fast as possible and hopefully never see them again.

 

Nothing dumber then the guys in back ramming each other for last place...

Having catchup and custom cars on is an oxymoron. Why have a car that can go faster than other peoples cars based upon your race record and ability to buy mods for your car when your speed is limited unless you are in last place? Dumbest sh*t ever. I quit every race I join with catchup on, right before calling them all pu$$ies on my Mic. This isnt "Cruis'n USA", Its GTA

After playing with catchup on and off, i come to an conclusion that playing with catchup is much funner as even if some asshat spins you out, you're not automatically out of the race. Stuff like this keeps races interesting.

Touring cars, I know BTCC adds a weight penalty, that victors of previous races have to carry for subsequent races. They also have reverse grids based on finishing positions.

 

For the record, I'm not a fan of catch-up, but it is what it is.

If all of my friends were at the same skill level and rank then I would race without catch-up on. But as it sits, that is the only way I can make the races fair and give them a chance at winning.
