This is ridiculous, first it was the rolling and now it's ketchup catchup?

People really need to stop complaining about legitimate tatics

(Also, Calling people bitches for no reason is for bitches)

Ya because slowing down the guy in front is what a race is all about.

 

You must be a terrible racer if you can't counter catchup, my goodness, next you'll be wanting the game to play itself

 

 

You mean by shutting it off prior to the race?

 

 

You lost me on the last part tho..lol

 

I've gotten past people with catchup just fine, it's just the fact that you need to improve if this is such a gamebreaking element.

It also dosen't help that people are called bitches for using a gameplay mechanic

You could be the worlds best driver but if your car is only going 1/3 of the rest of the packs speed you aint going to cut it.

It's got nothing to do with skill when catch up is on more about who gets the speed cut nearest the finish line.

So tell us. How do you counter 'it'?

 

 

 

For me.. I counter it by shutting it off. I guess popping wheelies does null the effect a little bit.

 

 

But, if im first, how to i counter the slowing effects?

It's always fun to get attacked by three saps who take stats as everything,

Oh and making fun of my stats isn't going to help your already flawed argument.

If someone is using catchup, You can catchup to them, quite easily IMO

just race normally and or host your own races so it's not such a problem

As opposed to the others making comments I have avoided being a dick about this but you obviously have some sort of issue here. I can read just fine...since when catchup is on the person in front of you is going slower than you...I would assume that yes it would not be hard to catch them...since that is the entire point of the feature...now please tell me how that reinforces your point, preferably without the imaturity.

That is the whole point though it takes away any real skill needed to win.

and the person who wins is normally the person who uses catch up + slipstream right at the end to win.

No one is denying it's not easy to catch back up.

I do race, Quite often actually and "this is getting confusing" was referring to the redundancy of saying catchup

Technically you do use catchup but that's besides the point,

And no, I am referring to catch up, not slip stream

The best racer can win in spite of catchup - If you're good enough, even if the car behind you has a boost over you, you can keep that lead....

 

People keep posting like it's an automatic or a gimme, that catchup/slipstream is a free and easy pass... it just isn't if you're driving with your wits about you and keeping an eye behind you and looking for moves in your radar.

If the game mechanic that makes sure the vast majority of races I am in are close, tight, exciting and full of wheel to wheel overtaking, then punish me plenty!

 

Once you reach a decent level of race skill, you find the difference in ability between you and the field is negligible, and with catchup off, 99% of races would be decided in the first corner, the one guy who didn't get spun out going on to win without so much as a sniff of a challenge... that sounds dull as hell to me personally.

Well if you had just said that it was not that hard to retake a position you lost to someone who used catchup...instead of repeatedly trying to shove a statement that was NOT saying that down our throats while insulting our ability to read...I would not have had to.

no the error was on your part, you said "someone uses catch up on you".... thats impossible no-one can use catch up on a selective player, when catchup is on it is applicable to everyone in the lobby, although it only affects the player in first place, because it allows the field to .... catchup (hence the name)....

 

if you took the time to write a comprehensive post, then confusion wouldnt occur...

The best racer can win in spite of catchup - If you're good enough, even if the car behind you has a boost over you, you can keep that lead....

 

People keep posting like it's an automatic or a gimme, that catchup/slipstream is a free and easy pass... it just isn't if you're driving with your wits about you and keeping an eye behind you and looking for moves in your radar.

when catchup is on a skilled racer changes his tactics... anyone with a reasonable number of races under their belt, that uses catchup off in most races will drive a particular way, i.e gain and hold a lead...

 

when catchup is on gaining an early lead isnt a wise idea... it increases the chances that those further back in the field can catchup and take that position from you

 

jsut like overtaking, cornering and blocking, timing is crucial when it comes to racing in a Catchup - ON lobby... you need to shadow the lead driver, if your good enough stay in the slipstream with 75% throttle,,, at the last checkpoint you need to pick your line, overtake and then defend your position as best possible...

 

most hardcore racers don't use catchup because it doesnt feel realistic to shadow a driver, rather than take the earliest opportunity to overtake and then defend you lead.... leading a catchup-on race is pointless, when ive been in lobbies wiht a mix of good racers and those who prefer catchup, quite often the good racers are fighting NOT to be in first, instead trying to force 2nd place to overtake so they can shadow... makes for interesting driving when tehres two guys doing this in first and second as youll often see 1st place brake on a straight to slow down and move behind the racer in 2nd place, forcing them into 1st and causing them to have speed limitations from the catchup mechanic....

 

with any race, catchup on or off, rain clear day or night, 2 players 16 players supers bikes or even on foot, its about strategy and execution.... the strategy to win with catchup on is unrealistic...

i shouldnt have to go f*cking caveman on anyone trying to overtake me because the host left handicap on, hell i wouldnt have to if my car wasnt reduced to 2nd or 3rd gear to begin with

"that catchup/slipstream is a free and easy pass" yeah it f*cking is, if my speed is limited because im in 1st and someone gets a retarded amount of boost for not being in first, theres not a damn thing i can do about that

This! And I almost missed this post, because of the huge quote trains, lol.

 

It could be argued that with catchup OFF, the luckiest racer (the one who avoids the carnage in the opening yards) will go on and win without any actual racing (overtakes etc.) taking place... the "best" racers should still be able to win with catchup ON, as it takes far more skill to keep a lead when the game is slowing you and boosting your rivals.

Are you trying to start an argument or something?

First of all, The fact that it's automatically applied has nothing to do with it, It's still technically using it (Especially if you toggle it in your race options.)

It was comprehensive, You just missed the point

If the game mechanic that makes sure the vast majority of races I am in are close, tight, exciting and full of wheel to wheel overtaking, then punish me plenty!

 

Once you reach a decent level of race skill, you find the difference in ability between you and the field is negligible, and with catchup off, 99% of races would be decided in the first corner, the one guy who didn't get spun out going on to win without so much as a sniff of a challenge... that sounds dull as hell to me personally.

 

Depends Sadly the gta community only care for cash and rp so will only put it on a small amount of laps.

Few of us in the crew race 10 or 20 lap races so having catch up on would be boring to us vs not having it on.

10 laps is more than enough time to catch up after the race start crash ups.
