Catchup is for Bitches

Slipstreaming is a separate kind of bullsh*t. It would be great if R* actually made it a thing in the San Andreas world... Instead it's like the magical pick-ups in GTA Races, something available when you go into special games.

Adders and Entities are for bitches. Catch-up just gives others an opportunity for a good race against said bitches.

Catch back right up to them and pay the bitches back who wrecked you

Yeah but in GTA that's a bullsh*t concept. I pass the drivers that are in front of me, I don't expect them to move out of my way, in fact I expect them to keep their racing line. It's not like we've got rear view mirrors in the cars either, we have to completely stop looking ahead of us to see behind us. Why can't you guys just pass people? Being pitted cause you can't be arsed to change lane while slip streaming is a whole lot of lame to me.

 

edit: Also one of the main problems with moving out of the way is that if i'm getting ready to pass you, you're going to move in my way if you do that and THEN I'm going to hit you. I've had that happen to me quite a few times with one guy I race with. AT one point I told him look, stop moving out of the way you're causing accidents. It makes far more sense to keep your racing line because then you're being predictable and it's easy to pass.

The leader owns his line, but is allowed to leave it only one time to block. He doesn't have to pull over to allow a pass.

 

The way the car physics work in this game mean that anything less than a pretty much perfect block results in the leader being spun out or shunted out of the lead - if someone makes one, two or three moves in front of me, and pulls of a perfect block, keeping me behind him, all I can do is say "nicely done" to them and hope I have better luck at the next shot I get.

 

Those little battles, trying to out think the car nearest you is why I get so much pleasure from racing on GTA, that I've found lacking in other racing games over the years.

Godforbid I try to start my own race with catchup off. Ofcourse no one joins.

 

If you cant win a race without it then you shouldnt be f*ckin racing.

Another thing people often don't realize about catchup is that if you lay off the analogue stick and put your car in a straight line as often as you get your car will usually maintain it's top speed far longer. You lose a lot of speed adjusting your cars direction as you're driving down a straight road. You can easily lose 1 to 2 seconds off your laptime if you're constantly adjusting your car.

I never try to wipe people out.. But in public races some players seem to think just because they have the lead they will keep it no matter what. Eventually i stop caring and make a move and they wipe... Basically because of catch up slowing the lead cars so much.

 

For me.. I give players enough room to pass when the time comes to give up my spot. I do kind of expect the same thing. Some player will not only block but go for a full wipe even if i start making the pass.

 

For me.. If you let me pass clean, il return the favor.

I guess slipstream does make up for it a bit, but it should be removed, in fact they should all be removed and just make it a normal race with no BS

 

To eliminate BS, you'd have to eliminate the option for custom vehicles. It kinda sucks when you're stuck in a race with a guy who has a fully upgraded car and yours isn't. As soon as the race starts they hit top speed and are gone while your car is still shifting gears, getting rammed by everyone else around you.

 

The only way races will be fair is if everyone has to work with the same vehicle type and the same level of upgrades. Catch up or not, it will become a race dependent on skill, not vehicle upgrades.

You can still race cleanly and competitively without "Favours" being necessary - Just because the balancing features R* included in races allow folks to catch the leaders quicker than they would in a real race, doesn't give them the automatic right to pass and take the lead from them.

 

Blocking the racing line, moving to prevent a clean pass, is NOT racing dirty, it's racing smart - BUT, it is risky - more often than not, if you try a block and don't nail it perfectly, it's you, the leader, who's gonna come off the worse of the two. So as far as I am concerned, anyone good enough to pull that off, and keep that lead despite all of the boosts and advantages the game gives the chasing car, then you deserve it,'cause you're clearly driving skillfully if you're keeping folks behind you.

 

Racing is fun and clean when people focus on keeping to the road, without any need for you to tip your bowler hat to them and say "after you, Sir" and swap about until the end.

 

Anyone who can keep the lead in this game where the car behind has the advantage, deserves the win.

Was doing a race around the whole map. Some kid decided it would be a magnificent idea to drive backwards and spin everybody out. He must have spun out at least 8 times, and was still coming 1st/2nd with a couple hundred metres until the finish. The immaturity took over and he tried to spin the guy next to him and he himself spun out along with the other guy.

But it's actually ridiculous. Driving backwards plus spinning out heaps means you have a good chance of winning? nty.

My racing methods are pretty simple, I find and maintain the best possible line as much as possible. If you want to pass your going to have to do it in a less desireable line. If you pull it off more power to you. If I am tailing someone I ride their ass like like a wolf breathing down their neck. Chances are that the individual gets nervous, keeps checking mirrors wondering when I am going to go or pushes harder than he normally would inevitably resulting in a mistake I can take advantage of. If I am in second I will hold that tail until the last possible moment to pass and take it before the finish.

 

I believe catchup and slipstreem should both be optional toggles that default to a "null" position and require the host to choose on or off for each race.

I love when people try that on me - if I've blocked someone and they come back for more, you just KNOW they're gonna try and spin me... so I wait for them to move sideways to nudge me out of control, then slam my brakes on... So instead of their front nudging my rear, they overshoot me and catch THEIR rear on my front door/wing and spin themselves.

 

Can't claim I fight them off every time, but I come off better more often than I come off worse - Just being vigilant, calm, and timing things well - can win plenty without being a dick who just tries to knock others off rather than focusing on their own racing.

Haha what? You got past people fine because the car you are passing is going slower than you. because of catch up.

You could be the worlds best driver but if your car is only going 1/3 of the rest of the packs speed you aint going to cut it.

It's got nothing to do with skill when catch up is on more about who gets the speed cut nearest the finish line.
