I bet most people don't even know what is CATCHUP and don't turn it off. The worst thing is that the CATCHUP is turned on by default, that is why most races has catchup

90 % of the races have catchup ON, beacause its the standard setting and the host doesnt change it.

 

If the standard was "catchup OFF", we would have much more catchup-off races.

I only host when i race to make it as fair as possible i turn that sh*t off and do not ram or cheat if i lose i lose but i race clean and respect other people when they do too and will want to continue racing with them

2. If you do join a race with randoms, leave when you see that catch-up is on. If you don't want to play with baby's first racing game settings, then don't. Just leave.

it isnt so easy because finding a job with lots of players and catchup off takes much time. And lets imagine, you found a job with lots of people and catchup off, then you finish the race and you vote. deathmatch or free mode has 1 more vote than Replay option or any ohter race job (or because of some reason 70% of people loses connection and leave). now you have to go through this finding process again!

All I know is that I host my own races. I use no catchup, no traffic and race clean. I never have a problem finding people with like minds to race with. Racing crew membership has its advantages.

 

However if winning is important to you then racing with randoms is more likely to give you that result. As such you must deal with the disadvantages that come with racing the less experienced.

Catchup might be "artificial" and I can't argue that it doesn't take any some realism from the racing experience... but bloody hell it makes for some tight and exciting races!

 

I don't think any of my race wins have been by more than 2 or 3 car lengths if I'm lucky, and not one of them has been an easy run without some pressure from behind, some evasive moves, overtaking or side by side battling... THAT is why I like to have catchup ON.

 

I'd probably win MORE races with it off, but they'd be dull wins - Fun/exciting races, photo finishes, and wheel to wheel racing is why I keep doing them, not just to boost my win ratio (ego).

I usually host races (because I prefer noon and clear weather), and always set catchup and traffic to OFF.

 

I try to race clean, but sometimes bump by accident. If others in the lobby race 'dirty', it doesn't bother me, I will bump them back or not, depending on the situation.

those things make a race interesting, so many people would leave if they saw themselves being last in a race without any hope for getting the first place... Sometimes it's too random for my taste, but I still don't complain, it's fun...

 

And if you win a race with catch up = on, it only proves that you are good, which is so important to you so why would you complain

For sure - Love those races that you spend the last few hundred yards looking behind you, knowing someone's gonna try and pass you and steal the win, but anticipating it and blocking them off, or squeeze them with super late braking maneuver, taking the win by a whisker, not a mile!

 

I'd rather take part in those kinds of battles and only win some of the time, than win most/all of the time in a dull procession of a race...

nothing like clearly being in the lead of a race, making the last turn and then running wide open several car lengths ahead of your competition and then for now reason your car slows a bit and the clown(s) behind you close the gap and pass you like they hit the NOS. that can be annoying... but, catchup "on" does sort of act like an extra gambling variable with no clear indication of who will get several seconds of the catchup advantage, and disadvantage.

 

a racing crew full of members that play regularly in my time zone would be good to find. I'm in two and I've never seen more than a total of 4 or 5 online at once.

I agree because I'm decent at racing and when I'm in first and some dude catches up to me like it's nothing, it pisses me off and I'm not the hypocritical type and I admit that sometimes when I win the race by catching up to someone at the last second, I do think it isn't fair because it's not. They were winning and here I am, coming in for the win. I may think it's unfair but do I care? Not really because money is money but I do try to stray away from doing that. I always drive to the side of the car.

Catchup is good for when traffic is turned off.

 

If catchup is off and traffic is off, then it's stupid the winner is the person who doesn't crash in the beginning of the race (where there is a little pile up in 90% of the races with 5 or more cars).

 

Catchup should be turned off is traffic is on though. How is it fair if someone is weaving in and out of traffic (driving better than everyone else), than someone who crashed a lot during the first lap is able to catchup and take the lead on the 2nd lap......

Makes having a fully tuned car pointless, just to be slowed down, so the demolition derby can catch up to you. This is why Impromptu racing is the only way to race, no slipstream, no catch up, no nada, raw racing. Not many do it either.
